Having lost her parents to the icy hand of death despite being a healer who could speak and hear roots and herbs, Mmachi decided to heal others with her healing gift with no favor in return. Her healing ability traveled to near and far away kingdoms as kings and warriors clamour to meet this healer that could heal any diseases. Accused by her father's second wife and banished from her land Mmachi went through perilous times in the forest until destiny found her. The king of the new kingdom that has just rescued her has just been poisoned and only her healing can vindicate her. A story of true love, betrayal and family.
I'm a big fan of Nigerian writers and Sarah Amuche Akpu is a promising young writer who tells an interesting story. It's the story of Mmachi, a young herbalist and healer who has healing powers. An orphan, Mmachi is banished from her kingdom since her deceased father's second wife framed her for a petty crime and Mmachi was sent into the forest to fend for herself. She was discovered by the Prince from the other kingdom, however she is tracked down by the mother and her daughter as the pair continue to follow her and haunt her.
Only the healing powers Mmachi possesses allows her to be saved.
The book is not perfect, I would say it would have needed another round editing and proof reading, and also some assistance with formatting, however overall I felt this was a good debut from an author who I hope to hear from again.
An interesting read. One that keeps you captivated and on the edge till the last minute. The suspense with twists and turns gets you entangled with the protagonist till the end.
