Greg was a good husband, for the most part, when Lauren was twenty-two. Loving and understanding of her various eccentricities, but not particularly ambitious, and unable to provide the finer things in life she so badly craved. Then came Nolan, a handsome man with a good income, capable of giving her the things she wants. Dividing her time fairly between the two men is a challenge, until Gordon comes along. Then it becomes impossible.
Gordon has an eye for Lauren, but he’s married to Erica Dupree, a filthy rich heiress to a billionaire oil tycoon, and therefore has to be careful. There’s a prenuptial agreement giving Gordon twenty million in the event he and Erica divorce. Unless Gordon is unfaithful to Erica. Then he gets nothing. In order to rid herself of the man and avoid paying the twenty million, Erica offers Lauren one million dollars to seduce Gordon. Bedding Gordon is the easy part. Keeping it from Nolan and Greg long enough to get the payment from Erica proves more difficult than she initially thought it would be. It becomes tougher still when Erica is murdered.
Mason relocated his family to the Gulf Coast where they are enjoying a happy, healthy and active lifestyle. Who isn’t happy by the beach? He is also wondering why he didn’t do this a heck of a lot sooner!
With the new locale, comes new interests and hobbies. Mason is exploring the coastal marshes and parks by bicycle and learning all he can about surf fishing so he can start catching dinner. Updates on Mason’s newest endeavors will be posted on his “What’s New" page as well as news about his books.
Oh yeah, and Mason has been writing! Following a six-month hiatus for this move to paradise, he is busy researching and writing his next novel. Wish him luck!
The Polyandrist by Mason Malone is a wonderfully written and richly descriptive novel with brilliantly drawn characters. The author weaves a well-crafted thriller with intriguing twists and turns that will captivate the reader from the first page to the last.
I enjoyed the story, character development, and dialogue. There were plenty of plot twists that I didn’t see coming and that added to the book’s mystique. When I stopped reading to work, I found myself wondering what happened in the book, and replaying parts of the novel in my head to see if I could figure more out. It has been a while since I enjoyed a book this much. It’s a well-written thriller with perfect pacing. Not much is as it appears here, which is just the way fans of the Mystery, Thriller, and Suspense will want it.

If you want to find out what happens, you’ll just have to turn the pages for yourself! However, I will say it was a fantastic read. This is my second time reading this author and I must say I was very impressed yet again.
This was a fascinating and captivating read that had me immersed from the beginning. The story flowed from scene to scene with ease, and the author shows exceptional ability when it comes to storytelling. There are plenty of attention-grabbing moments in this page-turner that will take the reader on a gripping journey.
The Polyandrist had every element a good story should have. An intriguing plot, attention to detail, but best of all fleshed out, well-written and well-rounded character development. There’s an abundance of well-illustrated scenes that make you feel like you are right there in the story, and that’s something I really look for in a good book. It’s one of those stories that come along once in a while that makes you want to read it non-stop until you get to the end. I’m giving nothing further away here. And this, I hope, will only add to the mystery and enjoyment for the reader!
There’s no doubt that The Polyandrist is an exceptionally well-written book. The authors other work, THE CHAMALA QUEST: A DOCTOR LIBERTY BELLE CORCORAN NOVEL would also be recommended reading. Five stars.
Most of us will have read novels about people who are driven by greed and, ultimately, come unstuck. Few, I suspect, as intriguing as Mason Malone’s ‘The Polyandrist.’ Lauren is a highly desirable woman whose sole driving force is the desire for money. Her husband, Greg, understands her manipulative ways, but lacks ambition and the means to provide her with the lavish lifestyle she craves. When Noel enters the equation, he is a much more eligible proposition who is not only handsome, but financially stable and her ticket to the finer things in life. Greg is a party to their involvement, even posing as her brother, convinced that her plans will be beneficial to them both in the future. The complications begin when Lauren’s greed gets the better of her and, for a million dollars, she agrees to seduce her boss, Gordon. The proposal comes from Gordon’s wife, Erica Dupree, a mega rich oil tycoon who is eager to divorce him on the grounds of adultery – the only way she can deprive him of the $20million settlement that was laid down in their pre-nuptial agreement. The plot is complex, taking unexpected turns that keep the momentum going. The suspense is ramped up even further when Erica Dupree is murdered and we are left to fathom who the perpetrator is. I have to admit that I didn’t like any of the characters and asked myself if people like this really do exist: Lauren, who is shallow, totally ruthless and without a single redeeming feature; Greg, so absorbed with her that it’s difficult to imagine anyone who could be so gullible; Gordon, who doesn’t have any saving graces, either, but obviously has his own agenda. As for Noel; although he’s less disreputable, what kind of man, having seen her true colours, could be so besotted with someone like Lauren, regardless of her beauty and obvious sexual appeal? These were all the things going through my mind as I was drawn further into this intriguing story. Maybe my overall view of the characters was exactly as the author intended? Either way, it’s a testament to his fantastic writing skills that, despite their unpalatable traits, I was still captivated by the story and eager to know the outcome. I thought the court scenes were very convincing and I was impressed by the natural flow of the dialogue, which is always a plus. A well written and unusual story, albeit with an ambitious plot and an ending that will take you by take you by surprise.
Finished reading The Polyandrist by Mason Malone. Welcome to the world of dysfunction junction! This is not my usual genre but I decided to take a chance on it. I have to say, Malone knows how to reel a reader in and hold them captive to the end. The story has so many twists and turns my head was spinning. First, there is Lauren, a beautiful seductress whose love for money drives her. She knows how to wrap men around her finger and manipulate them to ruination. Then there is Gordon, putty in her hands, and Greg who she is married to but calls him her brother while she seduces unsuspecting victims. Lastly, there is Nolan, naive and too trusting. When Gordon's wife Erica Dupree is murdered, a string of suspects is brought in for questioning. That is when the suspense begins trying to figure out who is responsible. A nice twist in the end. Well written. I'm giving Malone 5 dysfunctional stars.
This plot is very clever. The twists and turns among the four main characters are surprising and very entertaining. Lauren is a vixen like no other. The only thing that seemed implausible was the judge’s behaviour. A thoroughly enjoyable read!
Memorable Characters and Plot Twists That Won’t Stop
Mason Malone can certainly spin a tale, and he’s written a novel that shows considerable writing skill. With The Polyandrist, that skill is put to the test.
By telling the tale in present tense, Malone creates a strong sense of immediacy in every scene. The opening has almost a Twilight Zone feel to it, an implication that things are going to get a lot worse going forward. And they do.
All the characters, except for Nolan, have an agenda from the very beginning—and Nolan eventually develops one himself. Lauren, the polyandrist of the title, is the only character who truly achieves what she’s after by the end. That, of course, is debatable, since Greg, Gordon, and Nolan seem content with their lot. When you read the novel, you’ll see what I mean.
None of the chief characters in the novel are easy to empathize with. They all are disreputable in one way or another, and they really don’t have much socially redeeming value. The exception is Nolan, who, while not as scheming and self-focused as the others, is so naïve and gullible it’s hard to relate to him as anything but a dupe. It takes a highly skilled novelist to make these characters compelling, and Malone pulls that off.
Partly he manages that with an extraordinarily complex plot with so many twists and turns you simply can’t put the book down. My first reaction to the epilogue was disappointment, but soon enough I realized that, in the end, The Polyandrist is Lauren’s story—even though for the bulk of the novel she is portrayed as the villain of the piece. The end is just one more plot twist that you won’t see coming. But, then, you’ll be used to plot twists by the time you get there.
This book is not my typical read, but during a push to find some indie authors to read, I found Malone's synopsis interesting so I decided to take a chance. I enjoyed the book--Malone does a good job with plot development and including some interesting twists to keep readers from figuring all the details out.
I struggled a little with his characters--and that is because he crafts them very clearly, but most of them don't have a lot of redeeming characteristics. They are greedy, selfish, weak, and duplicitous. And he does a great job of portraying them that way... so much so that often I found myself getting upset about their behavior. So he deserves credit for pulling that off.
Those who enjoy a bit of a mystery and challenging characters will likely enjoy The Polyandrist.
Lauren is drop-dead gorgeous. When she enters a room, she catches every eye…and she knows it. Her looks and sensuality are her weapons of choice when she wants what wealthy men can give her: a lavish lifestyle and money. Lauren is a polyandrist: a woman who beds several men at one time. Mason Malone, author of The Polyandrist, uses Lauren’s talents to weave a plot that has more twists and turns than I’ve read in one romantic mystery. The result: I couldn’t put this book down in my eagerness to see which of the three men in her life…Greg, Nolan and Gordon…would end up with this polyandrist.
What is also really interesting about Lauren is her ability to make the most of any setbacks to her plans and quickly use them to formulate a new plan. When rich heiress Erica Dupree offers Lauren a lucrative proposition to help her rid herself of her husband, Gordon, Lauren accepts. But with every turn of the page, something new develops. As the monetary stakes climb higher and higher, Lauren needs to keep all three men dangling. She cleverly manipulates each of them. One can’t help but feel sorry for Nolan, derision for Gordon, and disgust with Greg, but the heartless Lauren finds each useful in his own way. Does she get what she wants in the end? Does she end up with any of the three men? Reading The Polyandrist is the only way to find out: no spoilers here!
Mason Malone is a competent writer and his story-telling and plotting skills will impress most readers who seek an engrossing, fast-paced story not weighted down by more details than necessary. While the epilogue surprised me and I wasn’t sure I believed it, the possibility that Lauren’s manipulation of the “weaker sex” isn’t all that far-fetched either. Read The Polyandrist and decide for yourself. A good read!
