The author does an excellent job of fleshing out people from this very turbulent time in the middle east where the Crusaders and Muslims were very suspicious of each other. The book wraps a romance into the background of this time and shows that at times we will pay dearly for what we long for. At times the books does drag some, but the story is profound and well worth the time to read and realize that centuries have come and gone, but some things remain the same. Highly recommend the book. Did receive the opportunity to read the book through "The Niche Reader" and will be looking for the rest of the saga.

Exciting Read!

This was my first historical fiction read - and I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Set against the 12th Century Holy Wars in Jerusalem, there was a beautiful blend of factual detail and research woven into the romantic backdrop of the fictional aspects of the book. I loved the writing style - each chapter sent me down a different route of emotion and I was reluctant to put the book down! I’m excited to read the next book in the series and must congratulate the author on a very accomplished debut novel.

This era of history is not something I knew much about. I’d heard of the Knights Templar and the Crusades but not understood from the Muslim point of view. This novel, with its thorough, in depth research provided an educational back drop for a story of harsh reality & deep love. The authors descriptive & sometimes graphic detail brought me to tears on a few occasions. This first novel and the previous novella, The Redeemer, has left me impatiently waiting for the next in the series.

This historical fiction fantasy book was a good, if frustrating, read. Set during the Crusades, this love story was sad and heartbreaking. No matter how hard they try, or how good they try to be, women always get the raw end of the deal.

I enjoyed this book, and would gladly read more in this series. Hopefully in future books, some of the characters have happier endings!

Interesting story but the writing style veered to the overwrought- purple prose!
