For readers who liked The Girl on a Train, this debut mystery, The Girl Next Door, will keep you guessing through all the page turns.
Am I a killer?
That is the question haunting 25-year-old Jane Jensen.
When she wakes up in the hospital after a devastating auto accident, she finds that her memory since ninth grade of high school has been wiped clean. As she heals, she begins to recover a memory here and there, and piece by piece, she struggles to stitch it all together to reclaim her identity.
Regaining much of her lost memory, however, is proving stubbornly elusive. Jane is aware that she has gone from bullied, overweight schoolgirl to successful corporate wonk in the last several years. But when the wife of her teenage obsession gets killed in a professional hit, Jane makes yet another transition—to that of murder suspect.
It’s a situation that would be unbearable for anyone, but it’s infinitely worse for Jane—she can’t defend herself from the awful accusation for one major Jane has no idea if she’s innocent or guilty.
The Girl Next Door is a psychological whodunit that you won't want to miss.
This is an author to watch. The story kept me up reading when I really needed sleep! Loved the characters and especially loved the ending...no spoilers from me...but it was a great twist!!
What if you were a complete social pariah in high school, shunned by everyone because of your unattractive appearance? What if you had a major crush on the best looking, most popular boy in the school? What if you finally lost weight and changed your dress and appearance so much you were unrecognized. What if you pretended to be someone else and spent one magical night of lovemaking with the man of your dreams? What if years later you were almost killed in a horrific accident that wiped out most of your memories? What if in a cruel twist of fate you were charged with the murder of that man's beautiful wife just as you were recovering? What if your one friend and co-worker was the only person who believed in you? What if you could find a way to recover your memories and save yourself? What if you could get revenge on those who hurt you and find happiness at last? What if there was a twist that changed everything? What if I said The Girl Next Door is a thrilling, twisty, suspenseful story that is not to be missed? (5 stars!)
This had so many twists and turns that I made assumptions that proved to be all wrong more than once. Plus an ending that I would never had expected. Only one question left in my mind. Which one fathered the baby. Mason? Or was it Jake? Good day's read!
What a great book!!! This author kept me guessing throughout the story by throwing twists and turns and subtle hints. I thought the ending was perfect. Definitely read this book; you won’t be disappointed.
I really enjoyed this book. I thought I had it all figured out.... A few times. Lisa has a terrific, twisty mind. I don't know how she comes up with these stories. I look forward to reading more of her books in the future.
That's all I can say about this book without creating spoilers. Just WOW! I don't read very many books about which I can honestly say that I wish I had written it, but this is one of them. Recommended for all readers of hold-your-breath crime fiction.
Wow! If you like twists, turns, and suspense definitely pick up this book! My predictions were way off and made me want to know what was going to happen next. I did not see that ending coming. This book does not disappoint. Enjoy!
This is the first book I’ve read from this author. I’m giving it a 3.75, rounded up. Our protagonist Jane is implicated in a murder. She knows she’s innocent but, the problem is, she was in a horrific car accident and lost most of her memory, so she can’t be sure what happened that night. Pros? I was completely misled through about 3/4 of the book. Love that 😊. Even after I did get half of the twist by around that point, the second half of the twist got me! I actually went back and skimmed the book for clues I missed (and yes, there were a few). Cons? I felt at several points that it was kind of all over the place. Characterization (except for Jane) was kind of weak. Loved the detective, though! Overall a great read. Will read more from this author.
When you start reading this story you don't expect to find it so make twists and turns Start with the main character having an accident and losing her memory. Np one believes her and her life is turned upside down. 1 Ending of the story is totally a surprise but all the mystery beating up to it is worth the read the author did a fantastic job keeping the reader interest.
