An inability to put words on the page can stem from a number of sources - it might just be due to tiredness or the stresses of life, or it may be that the novel has taken a turn I didn't foresee which has left me uncertain where to go next.

Generally speaking, I just try to write through it. Even when I know what I'm writing isn't good, often it will eventually start to flow again. Sometimes though, I just take a break from it: a walk, a nap, some yoga, a movie, depending on how I feel. And I usually find that the next time I sit down to write, the words are a little easier to find.(less)

World War Woos, Recording Woes, and a New Start

Hello again from Sydney, where the rain has finally started to abate. Today is the first truly sunny day in a long while, and I celebrated with a walk this morning along the river nearby. It’s amazing how much a blue sky lifts the spirits!

It's been a while since I've posted - I think life has been a little crazy the last couple of years for everyone, but I feel like I'm starting to settle into so

“Inside the theatre, Will touched his torch to the others in their sconces, and the shadows bobbed and danced as the small party made their way across the broad yard and up onto the stage.”
Samantha Grosser, Shakespeare's Witch

“She was aware of it all, a place of magic even in the silent evening dark, and she allowed her breathing to soften, opening herself up to the promise of the night. Then, when she sensed that the others were ready behind her, she turned around to face them. A single candle flickered lightly on the small table they had placed centre stage,”
Samantha Grosser, Shakespeare's Witch

“her spirit began to falter, caught between two worlds.”
Samantha Grosser, Shakespeare's Witch

“When does infidelity begin, Rachel wondered as she crossed the park at lunch time on her way for the afternoon shift at work. Does it start with a word? A look? A touch? When does it become too late to remain a faithful wife?”
