Hi, everyone. My name is Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra (yes, I know...it is a mouthful). I am originally from Cuba, lived in many places/countries throughout my life, and am now back in beautiful Florida.
I started writing when I was thirteen. My first short story was a science fiction one set on Mars (I was into Asimov, Clarke, Bester, et al at that moment of my life) and my second one was a paranormal novella, at nineteen, which was a rare leap for me since that genre really did not exist at that time.
I have written suspense, thrillers, mysteries, and short stories; I am delving now into cozy and will tap the paranormal in the future.
Love to read, watch videos of beautiful horses (since I can't ride anymore), and swim. Travel when I can.

And when the spark reached me, when it embedded itself within the soft folds of my nightgown, I knew my death would be torture--a spontaneous combustion death, where my body would be consumed by a slow burn for many agonizing hours.(less)

How about many? With my mind, I can turn any event in my life into a mystery. Something about plotting all the time.
But, seriously, I have a few moments in life where I could even have been the mystery. When I was living in New York (way back when--and this will definitely date me), I used to walk home alone from the subway late at night. There was a moment where the Son of Sam was picking victims in my neighborhood, and I actually fit the victimology (physically speaking). So, I could have been stalked by a serial killer and the plot would involve the detective desperately trying to find the killer before he got me. Hopefully it would be my Detective Nick Larson (the novel about him and his love, Laura Howard, will be coming out sometime September this year).

How a Print Book Comes to Life

Since many of you are old school when it comes to books (meaning you like to hold a physical book in your hands), I thought you’d like to see the process of printing a book in today’s market. It is a very interesting process.

Enjoy!

“He scanned her face quickly and recognized anger rather than fear.
"Are you insane?" His whisper was rough. "This could be a set up."
"And allow this sack of refuse to violate my home undisturbed?" She pushed at him. "No way."
"Listen." Richard refused to budge. "We are at a slight disadvantage here. I don't have a gun."
"But I have knives. The kitchen is at the end of this room, remember?”
Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra, The Coin

“What the hell is going on?" Roberto strode after his wife. "Look at you. What happened? And why is this man waltzing in here as if he pays the rent?"
Men, Gabriela thought, aggravated. Too damn territorial. "Please. Stop acting the wounded macho.”
Maria Elena Alonso-Sierra, The Coin

“Gabriela found herself mesmerized. This was the man she had met for the first time yesterday--charming, witty, and simply fascinating. Sensing her eyes on him, his smoky gaze turned her way, warm and intimate. Captivated, Gabriela reciprocated.
She tore her eyes away, but not before Richard had seen the response in hers.”
