Page turner for sure!

I loved this book from start to finish! I’m excited to read the next adventure that Sophia and her friends go on. I would love to know more about the bee pendant as well. Why does it work sometimes and not others? I am buzzing to find out!

Great book for teens

This young adult book has a wonderful team of female characters. Unlike so many books that think strong girls have to be snarky, Sophia and her friends are kind, loyal and genuinely care for and take care of each other. Through some out of this world challenges, they learn, grow and support each other. This is a fun, interesting story that was enjoyable, even for a not so young adult reader.

A teenager learns that she's an important member of a shapeshifting alien society in this YA fantasy novel about family and the environment.

Some odd things are going on in 14-year-old Sophia Violet Meriweather's life: wolves have been sleeping on the fire escape outside her bedroom window, she has an "imaginary" best friend named Luna who can transform into animals, and she's forced to hide her striking purple eyes behind dorky glasses that correct her color blindness. Not even to mention the fact that she's just moved to NYC and has to start at a new school--with the classic teen drama, involving a cool girl who wears fake tattoo sleeves named Darva and an insufferable popular girl named Margot. But the ultimate issue is this: Sophia--the main character in Evangeline Greene's YA Fantasy novel Sophia Violet and the Fiery Orb--is not entirely human.

At her new school, Sophia quickly learns that she's from the planet Chiralis: a twin planet to Earth, occupied by energy beings who feed off ultraviolet light. Unfortunately, with the depletion of Earth's ozone layer, humanity is taking in more ultraviolet light and destroying both planets. Chiralians used to remedy this situation through an Orb Master, who placed an Orb that stored ultraviolet light on Earth. However, the Orb is missing, and time is running out. A suspicious Chiralian named Esmeray, her son Rayson, and her grandson Cru are searching for the Orb, but their motives aren't entirely clear.

Sophia, with the help of her Chiralian classmates and school principal Mr. Herald, is shuttled off to a special summer camp for her kind, unbeknownst to her parents. Unlike her peers, Sophia just learned that she's Chiralian, and she grew up in a human family (for some mysterious reason). She soon realizes that she also has Luna's shapeshifting powers--Chiralians can change into animals and transmigrate to other locations at will. Sophia spends the rest of her time at camp uncovering her own powers and the truth about her family, as well as realizing her integral role in the hunt for the Orb.

While the book sometimes reveals expository information through awkward dialogue exchanges, Greene overall does a great job building a world with relatable and realistic teenage relationships. The fact that the narrative is overlaid with an important commentary on environmental themes is both smart and timely. If Sophia wants to save both Earth and Chiralis, she'll have to directly address issues associated with modern climate change and catastrophe--just like real teenagers Sophia's age are doing today.

"Sophia Violet and the Fiery Orb" by Evangeline Greene is an adventure sci-fi story. It reminds me of a mix of "Hungar Games" and "Twilight". We are taken into Sophia, a 14-year old, with many different powers including shapeshifter, space travel. She is spending time at a camp for training. She meets many different people and learns about their powers and background causing Sophia to lose trust in everyone. Sophia takes on the quest to save the orb. She learns how to travel to different places. During her camp time, we learn about the Chiralians. They don't eat, drink and have access not only to Earth but other rudimentary planets. Esmeray's son Cru wants her son to become the Master Orb. There are so many twists and turns. I don't want to say too much because I want you to learn the details while reading "Sophia Violet and the Fiery Orb." Evangelin Greene did a great job of making the characters relatable. She painted locations really well. I was able to see the locations in my mind. There were times I didn't understand the rules and the different type of people. The book never really went into depth about why the Orb is so important. I got the gif of it, but I wish there was more information. I also wanted more backstory on Sophia's family. I had fun reading this book. I am so glad I was given the opportunity to read her work. If you are looking for a fun sci-fi, adventure, superpower, crime investigations then "Sophia Violet and the Fiery Orb" needs to be on your bookshelf. I hope she makes this a series. I look forward to reading more of Evangeline Greene's books.

I love that Sophia and her friends were all loyal and kind to each other.

The story itself was a page-turner for sure, especially when the battle happened. I admit that I expected it to be different, but what I read was fine and exciting.

This is probably the first book I read that had a main character with color blindness and purple eyes. And it made the story unique in its own way. It was also intriguing how Sophia handled being a part of another plant consisting of aliens who can shape-shift to animals and transmigrate to where they want to be.

Over all, the story was creative, fun to read, and the characters seemed realistic. It's great for teens and young adults.

I finished this charming YA fantasy novel a few months ago, but I’ve only just got around to reviewing it.

First off, the writer did a great job with the characters. All of them felt distinct and three-dimensional, including the minor characters. I loved seeing them interact and develop their friendships. The world-building in this novel was great too--very creative and fun. I loved learning more about Chiralis, and I’m hoping there will be a sequel so I can see more of it.

If you enjoy YA fantasy, you should read this book!

I was lucky enough to read this review while it was in its beta stage, and I enjoyed the story tremendously. I liked the focus on friendships and trust, and the shapeshifting was a fun aspect. The author kept dangling the carrot, giving you enough information to keep you interested but not so much as to ruin the story.
The writing is crisp and clear, Greene is clearly a talented wordsmith, and the world is clearly laid out for the reader to enjoy.
This book is aimed at a Middle-Grade audience, and should be enjoyed thoroughly by its target readers.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was a lot of fun to read. It has all the elements one would want in an MG/ younger YA fantasy novel-- a fun alien world, a prophecy, and a kid who has no idea any of this existed--until it did. Sophia Violet's a great main character; complex, has to make tough calls, and finds herself growing up fast. And she owns it well. This is an afternoon read that'd keep a younger reader on the edge of their seats!

Interesting story but overly complicated with reveals that came out of left field. And the pacing was strange, characters would stop during an tension building moment to discuss how another character was feeling about the events that transpired. If this is to become a series, which based on the cliff hanger of an ending makes me think it will be, then it needs more editing and simplification until future books can introduce the necessary components.

I couldn't put this book down. I was hooked from the first few pages (which you can read on Amazon for free). The plot is well thought out and I absolutely loved the main character and the messages associated with her. I read this on my commute home everyday; it made public transit much more bearable (and that's saying a lot)!

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun younger ya fantasy with well developed characters and a well thought out storyline. It also included a little twist that I hadn't expected which was pleasantly surprising. Due to the cliffhanger ending, I assume it's going to be a series and will definitely keep my eye out for the next one.
