I grew up in Southern California, in a city called San Bernardino. I relocated to north Texas with my husband eleven years ago, and have lived here since. I attended College in Texas, where I earned my degree in Applied Science and Paramedicine. I have two younger siblings.
Were you an avid reader as a child? Do you still read books?I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I prefer fiction, and I love a good mystery! I am fascinated by paranormal elements and legends, and have used both as a basis for my writing.
When did you decide to become a writer and did your parents approve of this decision?I have been writing since I was in grade school. My teachers used to chuckle because whenever we’d have a writing assignment, my stories were always outlandish and completely unrealistic. I decided to pursue publishing last year, and my family has been supportive of my decision.
What makes you get out of bed and write every day?I’ve always been a daydreamer, and writing gives me the outlet I need. My writing has become a part of my routine, and without it I feel incomplete.
As a paramedic, what's something you saw you will never forget?I witnessed a shooting during one of my calls. We’d been called for a welfare check, and the scene became unsafe, resulting in the discharge of a weapon and the death of our patient. The incident gained media attention and was tried in court, and I had to testify as a witness for the prosecution. Without going into detail, I will say that watching the life leave a persons’ eyes is something you can’t ever forget.
According to you, what elements grab readers' attention from the first page to the last page of your books?I think many of us read to experience the impossible. Identifying with the characters and the events unfolding helps readers become invested in the book. I want to step into the main characters’ shoes and live the story. A three-dimensional character with a good plot will grab readers’ attention and keep it throughout the story.
Moya Lyubov is such a unique book title. What does it mean? Why did you choose this title?Moya Lyubov is Russian for “My Love.” When choosing book titles, I typically try to reflect a line or concept from the story itself. I wanted the title to catch readers’ attention and make them ask questions, and I wanted it to convey its romantic theme. In the story, Sergei refers to Adrienne has “Moya Lyubov”.
With whom would you like to visit Pax Lake, located in the sleepy town of Justice, Texas?Good question! Given the peculiar incidences and disappearances there, I’d prefer not to visit Pax lake at all!
How do you choose a new book in a bookstore?I tend to gravitate toward colorful, artistic covers and then read the synopsis on the back. I don’t like characters with funny names I can’t pronounce, or overused themes.
How should a complete beginner start photography? What camera should one start with, and what are some good photography tactics?I would recommend buying a book or two on the subject and doing an internet search. There are all kinds of cameras, lenses, filters and angles, and photography is an art! I am definitely a novice, and I will be the first to admit I am still learning the answers to those questions myself! I prefer learning by trial and error- because who wants to read the directions?
What common writing advice do you disagree with?I’ve been told that when it comes to marketing, networking with other authors and sharing your work on social media is ineffective. I disagree, because both are advantageous in different ways. In order to improve your craft, you have to learn from others with more experience. Networking provides emerging authors like me with a reference point, as well as a positive and encouraging community of like-minded people. Sharing your work on social media is exposure, whether or not it translates to a sale every time!
How extreme is your coffee addiction?I love flavored coffees! I generally drink between three and six cups a day.
What are you currently working on? When can we expect a new book?I am currently working on several, in fact! My book, Creatures of Chaos, published by Blossom Spring Publishing, is expected to release within the next few weeks. It is the first installment of a trilogy; I intend to release book two within the year.
How has your experience of being associated with AllAuthor been?I have enjoyed AllAuthor immensely! The author tools have been very useful in marketing my books, and the features are fun to use. Networking with other authors is simple, and in addition to gaining exposure for my own work, I am able to find books I would like to read! I have recommended AllAuthor to several others.
