Hattie Lou Interview Published on: 19, May 2020

What was your childhood like? How has it been conducive to your career as an author?

My childhood was a good childhood. As far as I could remember, I have always had an active imagination. I liked making my own storylines. Having an imagination is a good thing when it comes to writing. I tend to find myself thinking of storylines throughout the day.

Did your parents ever read you bedtime stories? If so, which one was your favourite?

I grew up loving books such as "Cinderella" and "Sleeping Beauty"

What made you believe in fairy tales and happy endings?

I watched many romantic movies with happy endings when I was younger and eventually I started reading books with happy endings.

What inspired you to start writing your own romance novels?

I have read tons of novels that involved romance. One day I found myself brainstorming a story of my own. I liked the control I had over the storylines and characters.

What challenges did you face while releasing your book, "Better With You" in 2019?

"Better With You" was my first book and I didn't know what I was doing. There was a lot of pressure to make sure the release day went smooth.

How did your friends and family react to your first book? Do they give you ideas for your new characters or new stories?

They were very supportive. I do tend to ask for their opinions from time to time when it comes to writing a story. I find their opinions to be very helpful.

The chemistry, sweetness, and twists in plot kept things interesting. How do you make sure to engage your readers in the story?

When writing a story, I like to write a backstory so the readers can understand the emotions that the characters are expressing. Also, I want the readers to understand why the characters make certain decisions. I want the readers to relate to them as much as possible.

Who inspired the character of Olivia in "Fame You"?

There wasn't anyone in particular who inspired Olivia's character. I knew when I started writing the novel that I wanted Olivia to be a strong independent woman.

Would you change anything about your novels or the process of writing them, if you could?

I don't think I would.

You’re very fond of furry pets. How many do you have? What are their names?

I have two dogs named Maxine and Millie. I also have three cats names Hazel, Sami and Troublemaker.

Would you like to explore any other genres in the future?

Yes! I would love to write a paranormal book. I'm sure I would find a way to put some romance in it. I really like paranormal stories and I would love to write my own novel focusing on it.

How do you feel about the shift of readers from physical books to digital ones?

I enjoy reading digital and physical books. It's a lot easier when it comes to purchasing a digital book than a physical book. One click and the book is there on your Kindle. I feel it helps more authors get their names out to the public.

What is the next book you are writing? When will it be released?

I'm finishing up on part one of a three part book series. It will be a rockstar romance. I'm hoping to have it come out around the end of summer or the beginning of fall.

How has your experience with AllAuthor been?

It has been amazing! I have met a lot of authors who write incredible books. I enjoy the site. I find it to be real helpful for authors.
