Jerrie Alexander Interview Published on: 23, Nov 2020

What childhood memory has had the best impact on you?

That took some thinking. The one thing that stands out in my mind is my brother. Barely two years older than me, he’s always been my best friend. Even to the point of beating up a boy who was mean to me. I knew then he’d always be there for me and he still is today.

How did you begin writing your first story? Did it ever get published?

Eons ago, I studied creative writing. I still have every graded a paper I turned in. Weird, I know. It travelled all over the United Sates with me even after I was married and had two children. None of those first works were published and that’s a good thing.

How does your love for romantic suspense inspire you to write alpha males and kick-ass women?

I’ve always referred to my husband as the last John Wayne. He was alpha for sure, yet, he liked that I thought for myself. He believed in me. Said I could do anything I thought I was big enough to tackle. Any love story should have partners who respect each other. Who are willing and capable to “save” the other if needed.

What was your biggest 'only in Texas' moment?

Oh, honey. All moments in Texas are big! ;) Joking.

What motivated you to create the type of book you're offering?

For years, romantic suspense was the only genre I read. I love spinning romance and danger together into a story that readers can feel like they know the characters.

Contemporary erotic romance came about after I lost my husband and the ability to sit down and create. After three non productive years, my doctor suggested I try a different genre, one that would challenge me. My computer is full of pages of research, I now follow a number of blogs written by women who live the BDSM lifestyle and are very happy. It works for them and I support couples right to live as they wish.

How did you begin writing the Lost and Found, Inc. series?

I decided to write a series of standalone books with interconnected characters. The idea for book 1, Hell or High Water, came from a news story. During large events like the Super Bowl and big concerts human trafficking crimes spike. It inspired me to research and write the story.

How did you write a satisfying end to the first book, Come Hard in the "Club Silken" series?

I allowed my hero and heroine to grow. To fail and recover. To hurt and heal. Readers can always expect a happy ending without a cliffhanger from me.

Who inspired the character of homicide detective Leigh McBride in "The Last Execution"?

She came right out of my research. Sometimes the character kind of comes to life in my head. Crazy, right? I wanted her to be brave, strong and secretive with good reason.

Is there anything from the past you wish you could do differently? What is it about?

LOL. The list is way too long. They say wisdom comes with age, but ideally, it should be present when we’re young.

Which one do you prefer: writing a series or a standalone novel? Why?

I love writing a series best. I can build a tight knit group of friends who trust and rely on each other. It allows me to create a story around each character yet, not leave any unsolved issues behind. I don’t write cliffhangers.

What kind of impression do you hope your books will leave?

I hope I leave them satisfied that the time and money they spent was worth it. Whether the book is murder and mayhem or a hot and sexy romp, I want my readers to have lost themselves just for a while in the story.

What are some examples of things that made you think "Wow, perfection actually exists"?

Without sounding maudlin, I’d have to say a new borne baby. I had two perfections.

What are you reading these days? How is it influential?

I read for pure pleasure. My go to escapism is historical romance. I want a spicy one so I turn to authors who take me away to another time and lifestyle.

Which is the next book you are writing? When is it due for release?

Come Hard, book one of the Club Silken series releases November 10, 2020 followed by Come Hot, book 2, which releases December 1 st , 2020 and Come Together, book 3 releases January 12 th , 2021. After that, I plan on collapsing for a few days.
