Robin Andrews Interview Published on: 25, Jul 2022

What was your childhood like?

I was raised in a small town with one older brother. I always had a pet of some kind. I have always loved animals

What kinds of books did you read as a kid?

I loved the Little House on the Prairie but I also read the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew.

What are your hobbies apart from writing?

I enjoy scrapbooking and rubber stamping.

How did you start your writing career?

I attempted a novel years ago but never really finished it. I went to a book con in 2018 and met some of my favorite authors. Some of them were kind enough to sit down and talk with me and gave me pointers to get started.

Your thoughts on conventional vs. self-publishing? What route did you choose and why?

I chose self publishing because I have seen too many authors that lost control of their own product. I want to have the covers and everything else that is my decision.

What challenges did you face while writing your first novel?

I had an idea in my head and sat down to write it, but nothing would come to me. Finally I just sat back and listened. The book I had been planning needed to be book two because other characters needed to tell their story first.

How did you begin writing the Phoenix Rising series?

The idea came to me about six months before I actually started writing it. I wanted to write about a place where former members of the military who came back no longer the same, could find a job and a family.

Who inspired the character of the bar owner Samantha Wiley in "Going Too Deep"?

She’s at least part one of my favorite cousins. Kind of a small package with a strong presence. She is as sweet as can be, but she isn’t anyone’s doormat.

How has your writing changed over time?

I have attempted things I never thought I would. Including M/M and later in life romance as well as developing a new pen name to write Inspirational Fiction.

How many books do you own and what are the names of some books you like the most?

I don’t own a ton of actual books, maybe 100 or so because I only collect signed books. I don’t read the physical copy. They are kept pristine. Some of my favorites are Away From Me by Lexi Blake and Small Town Second Chance by Jenna Jacob

What do you want to see more of in romance novels?

I think the books are great. I think some people need to be less critical of others. There is a lot of criticism of types of covers or things like that and it shouldn’t be. Everyone should make their books how they want them.

Which of your books took the longest time to write and why?

Sizzling. The character was bugging me forever to write the book but when I finally finished the book I had been working on, Riley wouldn’t talk.

Audiobook vs e-book vs printed book, which one do you prefer and why?

I really only read ebooks. I collect signed paperbacks.

What is the next book you are looking forward to writing? What is it about?

Out of the Ashes Phoenix Rising 5. It’s about a character that just got introduced in book 4. She’s the therapist that works with all of the vets that work there.

How has your experience with AllAuthor been?

I wish I could change what book is featured but otherwise it’s been good.
