Sweet and Spicy Historical Romance

Lady Isabella Winton waited four years to marry her fiancé, but each year Lord Alexander Fitzroy, Earl of Standford, a serving officer and a reformed rake, finds an excuse to delay the nuptials. This time, with the marriage set for the next month, he tells her he received an urgent message from his Colonel. He is needed in Belgium almost immediately. He warns her it may be dangerous for her to accompany him.
Isabella realizes he is bluffing, things would not change so suddenly. Despite Napoleon’s escape from Elba, Brussels is the centre of a social whirl. She looked forward to riding in the famous park off the Rue Royale; elaborate dinners and extravagant balls; so different from the quiet life in rural Sussex. Fearing Alex may have returned to his rakish ways and already installed a mistress, she insists on travelling with him.
Caught up in arrangements for a hurried wedding, Isabella is unaware Lord Everard Ladness, heir to a dukedom, is obsessed with her and will go to any lengths to possess her.

Lady Isabella, furious that her beau, Lord Alexander Fitzroy, was off to fight another conflict in Brussels, decrees that she will not have their wedding put off yet again. In fact, it will be moved forward and she will accompany him to the impending confrontation as his wife. Lord Winton, father of Isabella agrees to her demands for an earlier wedding and takes matters into his own hands to get the church to agree and make the arrangements for the ceremony. While at the dressmakers organizing her trousseau, Isabella meets up with her best friends who add to her excitement when they share the news that they will also be marrying in time to accompany their new spouses to Brussels. It's well known that the fighting takes second place to the socializing that the top military personnel enjoy. Therefore, the ladies need to purchase the prettiest articles for their forthcoming adventures. Their pleasure is soon diminished when Lord Verard Ladness, a rakehell who desires Isabella for his own, scares the poor girl her in her dressing room. She is ruined. Or so she believes - until Alex fights a duel for her honor. The last words from the crazed loser are," She's mine and I'll kill her before I let you have her." And so Isabella's life is set with a perilous shadow following her into her future. And this menace continues to turn up in the most unexpected places. I have to admit that my favorite character was Isabella. A spirited lass - one who had a mind of her own in a time when that wasn't acceptable - continued to surprise me with her exploits. Love scenes that'll make you sigh, good plots and great characters made this book an easy 5-stars.

I enjoyed the story, and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Isa has strong opinions on how woman are treated and stands her ground and won't be treated like a chattel.

The story is witty, I love the story involving third party characters and especially enjoyed the part about the ladies laughing at the trumpet, I won't spoil it for you, you will have to read the book to find :)

There is a bit of editing that needs doing Lord Burges is sometimes Bruges and his betrothed changes from Henrietta to Phillipa, Small mistakes but made me have to go back to see who was with who. Also wasn't to keen on how the epilogue ended, could have being a little more romance to it.

Hope the next book won't take to long in coming vey much looking forward to Vaughan and Henrietta's story.

Where to start? I found the writing style very hard to follow and if any of the characters had started a sentence with "la" one more time, I would have thrown my Kindle out the window. Dialogue was stilted and the story was unbelievable at best. Most of the book consists of long descriptions of clothing or food--I kid you not. Pass on this one, there are too many good ones out there.

Yeesh. this was dumb. Our "heroine," Isabella, is bratty, stubborn, immature, and abusive to her husband. She hits and kicks him, throws wine in his face, and threatens to leave him if he ever disagrees with her or tells her to do something she doesn't want to do. Now granted, her husband was somewhat old-fashioned and a product of his times, but Isabella was truly obnoxious. She also was the obsession of another titled, wealthy, handsome lord who literally would do ANYTHING for her. I have no idea what he saw in her. She was so unappealing.

The other couples that will be featured in later books didn't grab my attention, either. Henrietta, in particular, comes off as downright stupid and cowardly. Everyone involved in this book seemed to approach travelling to Belgium after Napoleon escaped Elba as an excuse to party and an opportunity to enjoy themselves and have a great adventure. It never seemed to occur to anyone that this was a war and people would be dying -- they were only concerned with pretty clothes and obtaining nice places to stay in Brussels.

Honestly, this is one of the stupidest books I've ever read. It didn't help that there were literally hundreds of copy editing mistakes, which made it hard to read. My advice to you is to pass on this book.

La, the dialog was awful. Seems like almost every other sentence starts off with "la". I suppose it's authentic to the era but I find it annoying. I've read countless books that take place during the Regency Era and have seen that used before, but la, it was excessive in this book. La, at 30% into book I've had enough. La, if this is writer's typical style I won't be reading any other books by her. La, thank goodness I got this when it was offered for free and I didn't pay for it. La, I think you get the idea of how annoying "la" is.

3.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing

Don't really know how to describe this book. Much is made of the great love between the Lord and his Lady but he has shown no urgency to marry her in the 4 years that they have been betrothed. He clearly does not intend her to interfere with his life. Much is also made of their disagreements regarding the appalling treatment of the enlisted men and their families but this aspect is never really developed. I know that this is the first of a series but it felt like part1 of a serial, only the stalker aspect seemed resolved, and then the book ended.

2.0 out of 5 stars boring and fake dialogues

    This book is sooooo boring
People don't talk with each other that way
    Even in the regency times
There is over abundance of thing like 'much dressed'
And an big emphasis is on preserving her virginity in the first 20 pages itself it came up 3 times
It's ridiculous suddenly the whole neighbourhood seems to be marrying and going to Brussels
There are conversations on how lucky they are as husbands cuff wives at the slightest infractions and their guys are kind

The mean woman at the dress makers is saying 'dammit'
And all kinds of persons are 'demure'
I couldn't take it anymore so I stopped at 26 page a hundred more will be sheer torture
