So True a Love (Daughters of His Kingdom Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 346 ratings

Kitty Campbell knows that leaving the dangers of Boston behind for a more tranquil life in Sandwich is God's will for her. But not even twenty-four hours after arriving in the small sea-side town, she witnesses a terrible crime and is forced to stay silent or her family will be made to suffer. And yet, as the consequences for remaining quiet threaten more than just her family, Kitty is desperate to unload her burden. When handsome doctor Nathaniel Smith comes to her rescue more than once, she is tempted to risk everything by revealing what she knows, as her hidden attraction to the courageous patriot builds into much more than childish infatuation.

When Doctor Nathaniel Smith discovers the town's ammunition stores have been raided, he knows immediately who to blame—the hated Tories. Desperate to keep the remaining powder out of enemy hands, he vows to find the men responsible. Then when Kitty Campbell is brutally assaulted and refuses to name her attacker, he suspects she might know something and keeps a closer watch for her safety, only to discover a fleeting attraction he harbored long ago threatens to grow into something akin to love. Yet, he knows a Tory and a Patriot would make a terrible match. At least that is what his head understands, but can he make his heart believe it also?

This review comes as an honest opinion. I was given a free book to put my review "out there" for all to see. I loved SFAL and was very excited for STAL to be released. (Just ask Amber, I kept bugging her about it.) I loved how the story of Kitty continued in book 2. I hate for story lines to be unresolved. Amber took care of that in STAL. I found the book to be very interesting even though it had so much history in it. Sometimes books with a lot of history can be a bit dry, but not this one. There was lots of action, drama, and romance to keep you going till the end. If I had to pick a downside to the book it would have to be the first chapter. I was a bit confused at the opening to find Kitty coming back from her aunt's in Boston. There was no mention of that in SFAL. But, hey, some time had passed and no one really knows what went on in between books anyway now, do they? All that matters is in the end Kitty got her views all straightened out and she got the guy too. :) Looking forward to a third book?? Amber??

I so thoroughly enjoyed the author's first book in this series that I eagerly awaited the release of her second. It was a bright point in my day when I learned this book was released and truly happy and excited to learn that the author would be sharing another story about the wonderful Campbell sisters. I can honestly say this second book, as with the first, was well worth the anticipation. It was very well done and enjoyable. The author continues to strongly write plot, setting and characters with well designed conflicts, story construction and development. I was immersed in the story, finding myself enticed and intrigued by it and eager to read each evening. I can say it is equal in quality to the first book.

In this book, as opposed to the first in the series, however, I found the author's particular style of using imagery and analogy intrusive to the flow and rhythm of the book. Perhaps it is a matter that I have poor reading comprehension, or that I am just not familiar with this author's usage style or she just has a unique way of looking at the world, but on several occasions I felt I didn't understand the images and analogies the author was using to clarify and enhance character dialogue, emotions, events, etc. Sometimes her usage seemed unnecessary, not well thought out or just unusual. For example, I quote from the book "Nathaniel flicked a quick look to Thomas, brushing his hand along the empty barrel as if he were dressing a wound." As in this example, I found myself unintentionally stopping to try to understand the imagery which interfered with the flow and rhythm of this very good story. For me,there were not any grammar or style issues in the first book so I was surprised to see them here. I am not sure if the author was advised by her editor or writer's workshop to include more imagery or she wishes simply to practice and develop new skills as an author, which is a worthwhile endeavor for any author, I found her imagery and analogy usage here neither contributed nor enhanced my understanding of the overall story and individual events nor engaged or cued my senses but was a minor intrusion of the author's voice into this wonderful immersion.

Despite this minor issue, I very much enjoyed this book, am completely comfortable giving it five starts and sincerely look forward to the author's next book in the series or anything she publishes in the future.

Didn't care for this book. Too many similarities to first book making it very predictable and way too long. Ended up skimming to the end. Will read next book because I have it and hope this book isn't like the first 2 in series.
