Perhaps echoing some spiritual genetic threads of Joseph Campbell’s works on comparative mythologies, Daniel Buckley’s ‘Heaven Earth and Time’ is an intensely powerful read—it cuts through the mists of time and draws out how ancient events ultimately shaped our world today. However, Daniel Buckley’s book focuses specifically on the famous islands in the Mediterranean: Crete, Sicily, Greece, and others. The focus only makes the whole discussion much more rewarding, as the author paints a staggeringly comprehensive picture of the chosen sites to provide us the level of detail that can only be described as “uncanny.”

Buckley does not only visit these ancient sites, he also goes back in time, discussing painstaking archaeological research and other relevant data to give us a complete, staggeringly provocative picture. For example, his discussion of ancient Sicily—famous even in popular fiction (remember Mario Puzo’s ‘The Godfather’?), with its ancient cave paintings, its intriguing pyramids and its smoke-screen of colourful myths and legends—gave me goosebumps—and I mean that in the most positive sense, of course.

Overall, ‘Heaven Earth and Time’ is a wonderful read—one that will ignite your interest in the Greek islands and beyond and will perhaps inspire you to embark on a similar journey of discovery. Top-notch writing and painstaking research makes every page of this book “jump” out on you—absolutely satisfying. Get a copy today—also makes a great gift to friends. Five stars.

This could be interesting, but I purchased the kindle version and it is a poor scan. No punctuation, sentences run together so that you spend more time trying to figure out where one ends and next begins that it ruins the reading experience. I got 7 pages in, and even as an avid reader it was a struggle.

The worst written book I have ever read. Misspelled words, run on sentences, misplaced punctuation, and disjointed topics. I can’t believe this is on Amazon.
