Review

A chance meeting between two childhood friends. A summer of fun and romance. And a promise to meet again next summer. Seems like a story we've all heard before. But it's in the delivery that made the difference for me. A very well written story. And though it's short, I still can't help but feel emotional at the twist in the end. You'll have to read this to know why... Reading Alley

Painting Rainbows is a fragment of life. The story slapped me in the face and showed me reality. Full of content but not lacking in form. It was able to develop an impact. It was written with elegance, a perfect masterpiece... Reading Alley

Though this is a short story, I enjoyed it a lot. Painting Rainbows is unexpected, both in the interesting story that unraveled and in the ending that was presented. Being a fan of twists, I love the one that is revealed here. I like the author's writing style and voice. Well worth a read... Reading Alley

It was a unique short story. The storyline was captivating and the characters were of note. The best line in this book for me though is this: "I was a fantasy, Joel. A nice memory. People like you don't need a pot of gold at the end of their rainbow." And it just struck a chord in me. I was moved and when I read the last word, I became devastated because I really wanted more. Good read. Lovely effort... Reading Alley

I read it twice. That's how much I enjoyed it. Painting Rainbows is a short story but don't be deceived by it. It packs a very interesting storyline, a sweet and sensual romance, and an intricate plot that slowly unravels with an ending that will leave you feeling astounded. I like every aspect of how the author wrote the story. The characters were portrayed with great chemistry you'll be immediately drawn to them and root for them all the way. Quite simply, an amazing story... Reading Alley

Sue Lilley is a new author for me to read - but I'm always willing to read a new author -- that way if they are really good, that is someone else that I enjoy continuing to read.

When asked to read and review this story, I discovered that I had already bought the book but for some reason hadn't read it yet. I didn't realize that it was as short of a short story as it was. The main characters -- Joel and Mandy -- knew each other as kids and now (years later) are having a chance meeting. I don't write spoilers -- but OMG, the ending did catch me off guard.

Even though this is a short story -- you will definitely not be able to stop until you reach the ending. ENJOY!!!

Honestly, I am not a huge fan of short stories. So, when asked if I would review this book, I debated over whether or not I wanted to take the time. I really liked the cover art and the brief description. So, I decided to go for it.

I thought that the author did a good job. I liked the characters and the story line was very poignant. I can't really say more without giving things away.

Personally, I like the author's writing style, and I am interested in reading some of her other works. It looks liker her other two pieces are full length novels, so, they interest me.

This is a new to me author and I LOOOVED this book, I just wish it was longer. It tucked at my heartstrings and was emotional. Did I mention I want more? Yep, too short but perfect for something while waiting for the kids at sports or right before bed.

This story really tugs on the heartstrings and leaves you with some major feel. It's a wonderful short story that lets you get the whole story from beginning to end in one sitting. The end is one for the books.

*** I received this book as a gift in exchange for an honest review ****
Absolutely lovely story with a heartfelt twist at the end. I simply loved it.
The only issue, which isnt even a negative, was the difference between slang / descriptives for an American reader.

A predictable lost-love story told a thousand times. But Sue Lilley is able to bring the reader into a familiar landscape with an artistry that the pseudo starving artist of her story does not possess, negating the disappointment that comes with familiarity. One line, in which the author paints the young and beautiful Mandy (what else would she be) twisting her finger through the purple tips of her hair, caused me to pause and close my eyes. A nice Sunday afternoon read.

Joel rolled his campervan into Casey's Cove and pulled off on the side of the road. He pulled out his easel , paints, and canvas and started painting. With his flamboyant show he made enough money for his needs.
A women caught his eye. She looked familiar. Then she laughed, it was the neighbor who used to follow him around. They pull up stakes, the campervan, and find a meadow. It looks like fairies play in the meadow. They decide they can play in the meadow, also.
And that is what they did.
I received this book for an honest review.

Painting Rainbows is a great short story which packs a much bigger punch than you would expect. The characters of Joel and Mandy set a fast pace for the reader to keep up with, and the descriptive work of the author keeps the interest at a peak. Recommended.
