About the author

Image of Wareeze
I write historical romance fiction novels set in the 1800s forward with a twist of suspense. All of my characters and stories that are portrayed in my books are fictitious. I am a native of Texas, but I have traveled through out America and beyond. As a dreamer, I love to visit new places where I can imagine a heroine meeting a hero in a special way. I’m an avid reader of (all sorts) and I love to write.
I married my high school sweat-heart and after having raised three sons plus one daughter, our love for each other remains unshaken. Now we enjoy our eight grandchildren. We can send them home, but we’re always happy for their return.
Outside of my family activities, I sing with the Silver Belles at my church and hate to miss even one practice. The local chapter of RWA is also at the top of my list of pleasures. It keeps me grounded with craft and connected with other writers.
Most of all, I enjoy going fishing with my husband. Give me a pole and leave me alone to bask in the sun, listening to water gurgle along the riverbanks while allowing my mind to float away to some distance place. Ah! Perfect.

- Reviewed in the United States on January 23, 2023It was a very nice read and even though it was set in the old time, the dialogue wasn't over powering and still made it able to read. The characters (some of them) were lovely however I felt like it needed more especially in the ending. Parts were very well written and explained and some parts really fell flat. I'm hoping a sequel is next to tie up lose ends!
If I had a sister in law like in this book it would be a murder mystery book haha!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 12, 2018A five star read.. I liked Laurel, young and living in a dream world. She wakes up in a nightmare that is not happy ever after. In After She Became a Lady she grows up facing danger and dealing with real life, not make believe.. She did well. I was rooting for her all the way. Some of it is scary too.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 7, 2022She's at the tender age of 17 years old but Laurel Collingsworth knows without a doubt she wants to marry Lord Robert Laningham. Her aunt is beside herself because this just isn't how things are done! However, aunt Betsy relents and Laurel and Lord Robert are married. Just as soon as they arrive at their manor, things start to challenge their marriage. First of all, Lord Robert failed to sharing his upcoming nuptials with his twin sister, Rhonda. Let's just say that Rhonda does not handle this news well at all because now there are two Lady Laninghams and Rhonda's not ready to share that title with anyone. Then, just mere days after their marriage, Lord Robert is called away to fight in the war, leaving his new wife with his hostile and, dare I say, crazy, sister. Will Laurel ever be able to adjust to this new life and deal with her sister-in-law?
This book was enjoyable and kept to a lot of historical speech. I found myself laughing at some of the language used, as it's not heard anymore and sounded funny. There were parts of this book that were never resolved but maybe that wasn't necessary because in the end, it's about Robert and Laurel. I'd have liked to known how certain situations would have fleshed out though. This is a fairly clean read with some romantic scenes, but they are not overly descriptive and could be appropriate for mature teen readers.

I thoroughly enjoyed this period novel, as opposed to other pre-equals that I have read, this one is more than an introduction, it is a complete story, able I feel to be read as a stay alone.
The story was charming in the way that the author obviously did her homework regarding speech patterns of the time and knitting them into the story. It took me on a memory trip to my much younger self and Georgette Heyer books.
17 year old Laurel falls in love with Robert Laurenson, the Viscount Laningham. He believes her to be the love of his life and petitions her guardian for her hand in marriage and pushes for a speedy union before he has to depart for Spain and the war against Bonaparte.
Laurel is left at Landings, a brand new inexperienced bride and at the mercy of Robert's twin sister, Rhonda, a jealous, spoilt, spiteful woman. There is a dangerous jewel thief, duplicity, vicious rumors and so much more. I look forward to reading it's follow-up.
The story deserves a 4, but there are several jumbled passages that escaped the editor and proofreader's scrutiny and as such I am unable to fairly allocate more than 3 stars.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 15, 2022I have come to love reading books from this era and was happy to find a new author to enjoy. This book was well-written and has a way of holding the reader's attention. An easy read, wonderfully written and has mostly wonderful characters. Laurel is a young lady just coming into her womanhood when she fell in love with Viscount Laurenson. They are quick to marry due to her husband leaving for war in Spain leaving Laurel to deal with Robert’s twin sister Rhonda. Laurel is left at Landings, a brand new inexperienced bride, and at the mercy of Robert's twin sister, Rhonda, a jealous, spoilt, spiteful woman. Rhonda has been in charge of the Laningham household for so long that it is hard for her to give up the reins to the household. When Laurel figures out that she is with child the jealousy becomes worse from Rhonda.
This love story with a twist of mystery is absolutely a must-read if you enjoy period time books. I can’t wait to dive into more books from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2022Laurel is young, in love, and desperate to marry her hero, Lord Laningham. When her aunt agrees to let her marry, she is beyond thrilled to become his wife. However, before they even leave the countryside for his estate, she starts to wonder if everything will be as wonderful as she has imagined it would be. Surprised to find out that he has a twin sister that has been in the role as Lady Laningham, she finds herself in a struggle to take the reins of her new household. Further complications arise when Lord Laningham is called away to Spain on urgent orders. When nighttime noises begin, and midnight intruders are spotted, she tries to convey her fear only to be met with prejudice against her age. Lord Laningham returns wounded to furth complicate matters in their marriage. Can they survive their first year of marriage together? Or will family bonds win over marriage vows?
I really liked this book. Oftentimes books set in the Regency era are centered around finding love, complications arise, and then their happily ever after ending. This book is the after story of it all. I really appreciated a different insight as to being married in that era and dealing with all of the intricacies of running a household, country gossip, and staying true to vows made. This was a very enjoyable read.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 28, 2017I don't like cliffhanger and hate when not told in advance. Therefore I won't be finishing this story, won't bother reading anything else from this person.
- Reviewed in the United States on August 3, 2017The book was well written but my favorite part of the book was the cover. There was just too much meanness, pettiness, and unhappiness.
There were parts that were touching and positive but not enough compensate for the other sadness. Ms. Woodson is talented, in my opinion, this book was just not for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Historical Romance.
3 Stars
After She Became a Lady by Wareeze Woodson is an historical romance woven with plenty of period detailing and descriptions, drama, danger, mystery, jealousy, angst, and interesting characters.
As with the other book of Ms. Woodson’s that I have read, this historical romance is written in the ‘old school style’- keeping true to the language, terminology, social norms, and style of the era, which can take a chapter or two to ‘settle’ into for some readers.
While I did enjoy the story, I was a little disappointed that I didn’t love it as much as I was hoping to. There was so much potential here for quite a stellar historical romance, but unfortunately it didn’t meet my expectations.
There were quite a few issues that pulled me out of the story, which was frustrating. I was so disappointed that all the wonderful tension and intrigue that was built through the story, with one of the main threads being the whole ‘mystery’ aspect, which made me feel like we were heading towards something momentous- so when the ‘revelation’ finally came it seemed very abrupt and somewhat of a ‘let-down’ as everything was ‘solved’ and explained away in less than a page- so, pretty much brushed over.…. which was very underwhelming. Also, there were a lot of details that were thrown into the story that didn’t really build or contribute to the story in anyway, except perhaps as fillers/padding/red-herrings- which was also a source of frustration for me. There was a lot of repeated information/details which disrupted the flow of the story, and times where the story slows so much that it lost all momentum, while the last part of the story, and ending, felt incredibly rushed.
I love Ms. Woodson’s story ideas and her attention to historical details, and her characters are always very intriguing, so I am interested to see what she will do next.
Happy Reading…
Thank you, Wareeze Woodson!
