Deception (Infidelity Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 3,359 ratings

DECEPTION, book THREE of FIVE in Aleatha Romig's INFIDELITY series.

"Infidelity - it isn't what you think" It all began in Del Mar, a chance meeting with a single rule--one week only.
Or did it?
Lennox ‘Nox’ Demetri and Alexandria ‘Charli’ Collins had every intention of following their agreement but rules are made to be broken. In CUNNING they are reunited with Nox setting down new rules for the game and Charli having no choice but to follow them. Now, once again, the game has changed.
Nox and Charli’s hot sensual encounter has grown into something more but it is threatened with secrets and regrets. Is it their love and intense sexual chemistry that’s pushing them together or something darker, a puppetmaster behind the scenes pulling the strings on their love affair?
Shadowy villains lurk around each corner and everyone is suspect as Nox’s and Charli's pasts collide with the present and threaten to compel them back to their predestined fates.
Can deals brokered in the past be negated by something as pure as love and as steamy as the attraction shared by Nox and Charli? Or was it all a deception—starting with that very first meeting?

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Aleatha Romig comes a sexy, new dominant hero who knows what he wants and a strong-willed heroine who has plans of her own. With classic Aleatha Romig twists and turns, the depth of this epic romantic suspense continues to reach new levels as past and present intertwine. The Infidelity series will have readers swooning one minute and screaming the next.

Aleatha Romig is one of the best at writing romantic suspense, mystery and thrillers. She took the Indie world by storm with her Consequences series, and now, she’s doing it again. In my opinion, her Infidelity series is her best writing yet, and I can’t express enough how much I LOVE it! Please don’t judge this series by its name: "The Infidelity series does not advocate or glorify cheating. This series is about the inner struggle of compromising your beliefs for your heart. It is about cheating on yourself, not someone else."

Using a metaphor, I’ve come to compare the reading of the Infidelity series to the act of peeling of an onion. Everyone knows onions are made up of several layers. Betrayal, the first novel of this series, only skims the surface of the onion. Readers are introduced to Lennox Demetri and Alexandria Charles Montague Collins as they spend a week in Del Mar – a chance meeting where they experience an instant connection. In Betrayal, Romig makes it so easy to fall in love with these characters.

Romig breaks the surface of the story in Cunning – she begins to peel back the outer layers of the onion. Nox and Charli are reunited, and we begin to suspect there’s a whole lot more to this story than two people randomly meeting in Del Mar. We are given more background information about several key players. Overall, the Infidelity series begins to feel more like a mystery.

Deception, the third book of the Infidelity series, picks right up where Cunning ended, and it’s full of drama from the start! Deception is where we really start getting into the meat of this story. Nox and Charli’s past and present begin to collide in Deception, and you begin to wonder just who, or how many, might be pulling the strings. Did their meeting in Del Mar really happen by chance?

With each chapter of Deception, we are given new possibilities to consider. Infidelity is a series that WILL make you think. Every detail of Romig’s story has been written with purpose. Layers of truth are continually uncovered in the dialogue. Clues are hidden in the text. Even characters introduce their own theories! All of these things had me questioning what I thought I already knew. One thing is certain: the novels of the Infidelity series will challenge you to get to the bottom of things.

More often than not, spoilers are not much fun to read. Because of the nature of the Infidelity series, I’m not going to go into much detail about what Aleatha Romig reveals in Deception. Generally speaking, Romig delves into the backgrounds of the Demetri and Montague families in this novel. I found the background of the Demetri family particularly fascinating. You should expect several “aha!” moments when you read Deception. In true Romig fashion, you’ll begin to see connections form between characters and in the plot. Are these connections merely coincidence, or is something more sinister taking place?

I was able to note real character growth in Nox and Charli. Because of their backgrounds, trust is a very important issue to both of these characters. Their relationship evolves in Deception. They both seem to be growing as individuals – opening up about their pasts, learning to trust one another and extend love freely. Mixed in with background information and plot reveals, you should expect romantic and steamy moments between our main characters.

I can’t give anything less than 6 stars for this novel. For entertainment value alone, Deception earns a 6-star rating, but Aleatha Romig’s writing is crisp, creative, and the story flows incredibly well. Look out for the KILLER cliffhanger of this 2016 favorite!

This is my second reading of this series and I know why I hate and love this book. There are so many evil characters in this book and the two most evil ones are Alton Fitzgerald and, of course, his love child Edward aka"Bryce" Spencer. Now I know why I didn't do reviews first of all it was back in September of 2018 and I was not paying attention to the part where the authors say please leave a review.
This books picks up exactly where Cunning left off. Alex aka, Charli aka Alexandria is getting closer to Lennox aka Nox. They both have learn to tell each other the truth and to reveal secrets on their own time. We find out more about Nox's parents Oren and Angelina. Angelina is dead but she was part of the Costello family which is basically a mafia family and we find out why or how Oren came to know Adelaide and knows who Alex is.
There is so much intrigue so much angst and so much sexy Nox. We find out that Chelsea ends up in Savannah and how and why she is there. She is there to give an alibi to Edward Spencer.
We get POV from Oren and Adelaide and Charli and Lennox so everyone had something to add to this story. We get the story of how Charli's father died, poor Mr. Collins never had a chance. Then the twist at the end. I am glad I read this again because, I get to say I don't remember this but I did purchase and read this series. I am still hooked but I knew it when I started reading an Aleatha Romig book. Twists and turns and ups and downs we just get turned on our head and then the ending of this book, just upsets me beyond belief but here we go. Next book Entrapment.

This is the third time reading this book and this series. I am reading it again because I found the Price of Honor. It would have been good to have read the Price of honor before I read the Infidelity series but I didn't so I had to go back and read and see if it is as good as I thought it would be the first time. I actually forgot some of the things that happened in this book, or I didn't pick up on it, so I sometimes feel it's good to read series you really like a second or maybe a third time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing! Questions still need answers...
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on May 3, 2016
Well as is usual with a book by Aleatha I never really know how to put what I thought about it into words because there's so much to take in and as usual leaves you asking yourself lots of questions that haven't been answered lol But I will say..as is usual too, the book was amazing! It had me completely hooked into the characters' lives, the twists and turns that Aleatha takes you through had me questioning everything and everyone and as usual her writing was faultless!
I can't really say too much because firstly I don't want to give any spoilers and secondly there are too many questions I have about it all that need answering and knowing Aleatha that won't happen til book 5! lol
I will say that if you're following this series you will not be disappointed with this book. It changed my view on a couple of characters and has made my hatred for others grow a lot more..especially Alton and Bryce! I love that Nox and Charli have each other and are opening up to each other more...I just get the feeling that their road ahead will be rocky due to certain people but hope they can face whatever it is together and be with each other like they deserve!
This book in my opinion is worth more than 5*!! Highly recommend it! Thank you Aleatha for another great read!

I was so excited to get into this one and I am so happy to say that I was not disappointed!! It took me a little while to get back into the story because of how detailed it is but it soon came flooding back.
I could not put it down.
The twists and turns that Aleatha got into the plot without making it to farfetched was amazing. I had to put the book down and walk away at times as things were getting so intense but that has happened in all this authors books for me.
This is a must read series for any Aleatha Romig fans and I will be hanging out for the next instalment in September.
If you hate cliffhangers then you will not be impressed!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Even more twists and turns and different POVs
Reviewed in Germany on May 5, 2016
Deception picks up right where Cunning left off.

Each chapter is told in multiple POVs ( Nox’s, Charli’s, and Adelaide’s) with flashbacks to the past from Adelaine’s and Oren’s POVs and Aleatha Romig slowly unveils more key points all the while weaving new plotlines into the story. From mafia connections, to family, to underhand lawyers, judges, and professors, to disloyal friendships and bodyguards the novel covers many criminal plots each worth its own book. For me that is why the story did not pull me in, with each new chapter my reading was interrupted as I had to concentrate on whose POV and which time it was for the next ten pages, what new threat, development or disclosure was revealed, and how it might fit into the overall picture. There is no real main thread of a storyline, the danger comes from all sides, and it was starting to lose my attention.

The writing was off. Some chapters were ok, whereas others seemed forced especially the sex scenes. AR used “as” so often that I scimmed over the boring description and counted the “as”, up to three in one paragraph.

The worst was the last chapter, unbelievable actions by the head of security and Charlie. Charlie’s behaviour felt inconsistent with her now stronger persona. I would have preferred a different action to demonstrate how confident she had become. The actions fellt rushed as if the author didn’t want to write more than xxx pages.

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++spoiler++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Would you believe the head of security drops her duties to rush with Charly but without Nox to a possible emergency of Charly’s mother without researching credibility, hospital, or medical records, but does said research at the destination only to find out that there is no emergency, and they can’t get access to the mother, while a two hour delay would have enabled Nox to come along? Then Charli gets in Alton’s car and the bodyguard does not intervene?

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++spoiler++++++++++++++++++++++++++

I am a great fan of the Consequence series, AR told the story in three very suspenseful books and for readers who wanted to get the missing/ explaining scenes three additions from Tony’s POV.

Apparently in this series she tries to incorporate the other POVs directly so everybody has to buy five books. Serious editing and compressing would benefit this story, and it could be told in three books as well.

Readers who haven’t started reading yet I suggest waiting until the last book is published. There are so many details you forget over the months, #4 is due in September, #5 in November.

5.0 out of 5 stars We have a Prince Charming, a Princess, a Devil x2, a Wolf in sheep's clothing and Gaslighting!!!
Reviewed in Canada on May 9, 2016
An incredible Author. I couldn't put the book down. This third book is the best one yet. The Gaslighting is what creeps me out the most. Who do you trust? Lying by omission never ends well. I think one of the Devil's has a heart...when push comes to shove. Who's manipulating who? The Princess is known for her intelligence so why did she make the choice she did at the end of the book? This series has been great and I have no doubt at the end it will be one of my favorites. I would also recommend the Consequences series. You won't be disappointed. Enjoy!
