The Missing Years is... “The captivating missing piece that continues one of the most intricate, enthralling, and suspenseful stories I’ve ever read.” – Vilma’s Book Blog
Readers saw what happened on that fateful afternoon at the Rawlings Estate and heard about the aftermath. This fourth novel of the series is told through the men in Claire Nichols’ life and fills in the gap of time that was only previously mentioned. Like dominoes falling in a line, REVEALED allows readers to experience the shocking repercussions one by one, and witness their effect on everyone in the game.

"You think you know what happened behind closed doors? Think again. REVEALED changed everything for me. It opened up possibilities, it revealed the motivations behind the actions, it made me feel such a wide array of emotions, I was beside myself. This was such an exceptional read. The talent that Ms. Romig has, shined so bright during all of these different POVs.
Superb, incredible, and perfect are just a couple of the words that describe the Consequences Series by Aleatha Romig. Suspenseful, mind blowing, and intense, this series will take you on a ride of your life, an emotional roller coaster, a conflicting thrill ride of secrets, lies, and inexcusable circumstances. This is one of those series that will play out like a movie in your head. - Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2014I was not sure exactly what to expect with this book as I loved all the books in this series and the BHE books so I found myself intrigued; not knowing what to expect.
Well I was certainly surprised and in a very good way.
This book by Aleatha not only answered some of my questions but also gave me such an insight into the other characters in the Consequences Series.
In the Missing Years you hear from many of our beloved male characters in this series POV. It was very refreshing, it is such a delight to read what the others though rather than guess as I did while reading Convicted.
What struck me in this book was Tony, the anguish and dare I say it, the humanity of him. You experience this immediately from the prologue and it’s refreshing to see how Tony comes out of his comfort zone, he is lost and distraught over situations he cannot control but most of all he is in turmoil regarding his family. I loved this side of Tony, I loved Tony from the Truth book but I feel in these BHE books Tony comes more to life, you see the reasons behind the actions and I must admit I understood him, I felt for him as he reacts to things going on around him that he cannot control.
Aleatha shared this quote from Aristotle Onassis and to me it is so relevant of this book “It is during our darkest moment that we must focus to see the light”
Phil is such a character and I loved in this story that not only does Aleatha give us more knowledge of Phil, but he comes to life, he is an enigma in the previous books but in here, he is on his own, you learn more about him and what he feels, thinks and the choices he makes.
I loved reading about Harry, Phil, John and Emily, even Courtney and Brent they are all here.
In Convicted I was always wondering why Emily was being the way she was, what made her like she was with Claire and her isolation? It was interesting in this book where Aleatha answered all my questions regarding these people, I can’t say I agreed with Emily & John in Convicted but I understand now why they did what they did.
This book has so much in it, it would be easy to go into too much detail and end up giving you spoilers, however, there are some surprises for you in here that make you sit up and read more.
There was a point that John say’s in this book which made me smile when thinking about Claire. John compares Claire to a Phoenix, and that is so true, no matter what she has been through she rises above it all.
Claire is a fighter we see that in all the other books and especially in Convicted, what surprises me though is how much Tony fights for Claire.... his Family.
Throughout The Missing Years, there are times where you think back to the series and know exactly what happened, there was no repetitiveness, everything was new from the eyes of who was telling the story.
There is emotion throughout this whole story but the realization that Tony has is astounding and so very well written that you cannot do anything but feel moved and sorry for him, you feel his pain, his anguish about his family and about revelations from his past you also see the insecurity Tony has regarding future for him and his family that you just have to read more, well that is what I felt.
I love how Tony reiterates to Claire how much he loves her “I told you before. I’ve never pretended to love you! I do love you! That’s present tense!” to me this was the best way to end this remarkable, captivating, romantic story, however, we all know Tony and although he does not profess and never will that life will be a Happily Ever After or that he will not mess things up, he does promise (and as we all know Tony is a man of his word and keeps his promises) that he will endeavor to do try his best for the rest of his life.
This book is a must read but not if you have not read the entire series first. I will miss Tony, Claire and everyone else in this series, it has been a pleasure to read
- Reviewed in the United States on May 20, 2014Sometime during the process of writing her third Behind His Eyes companion, Aleatha Romig realized what she was writing would surpass companion length to become the fourth novel of her Consequences series. This series-concluding novel is titled Behind His Eyes - Convicted: This Missing Years, and according to Aleatha Romig, it begins with events "at the fateful gunshot" and moves forward into the future. It includes multiple male points of view including Brent Simmons, Phil Roach, John Vandersol, Harry Baldwin and Tony Rawlings. And as a bonus, Claire Rawlings is given a voice with the inclusion of passages from My Life as it Didn't Appear by Meredith Banks!
Fans of the Consequences series already know that Claire experienced a psychotic break, was hospitalized and subsequently placed in a private facility named Everwood at the beginning of Convicted. Much of Convicted focuses on Claire - her care, treatment and testing. But there are many important things that occur while Claire is in Everwood that involve Tony, Claire, their daughter, Nichol, Catherine London and many other secondary characters. According to Aleatha Romig, this novel provides "the complete story of what was only mentioned in Convicted."
While Claire was experiencing her break from reality, we missed hospitalizations, arrests, private investigating, restraining orders, legal opinions, custody battles, plea agreements, prison time, and therapy sessions. Details and conversations about these events are now being shared, and the information provided by the author is fascinating and incredibly detailed! Events are mapped out in sequence so that characters are spotlighted at critical moments in the story. My favorite aspect of this novel is when the characters read key passages from My Life as it Didn't Occur. I absolutely enjoyed reading Claire's revelations to the public about her relationship with Tony!
Several things stand out in my mind after reading Behind His Eyes - Convicted: The Missing Years. I was completely impressed with the amount of detail and planning involved in writing what followed the confrontation at the Rawlings estate. By this I mean months and years of legal battles involving custody and prosecution. Well done, Aleatha Romig! I found the character development to be both realistic and believable, especially for Tony and John. And Harry - I had nothing but distrust and anger for Harry after reading Truth and Convicted. But Harry has so much to say in The Missing Years! I carried deep resentment towards Emily and John during much of this novel, even though I understand they were doing what they felt was right for Claire. By the end of the novel, John had truly earned my respect.
Which crimes will Tony be held responsible for? Whatever became of Catherine London? Will anyone ever be held responsible for the death of Simon Johnson? These are just a few of the questions that are addressed in Behind His Eyes - Convicted: The Missing Years. There are so many things that I would love to share, but I refuse to give out spoilers. As I bring this to a conclusion, I want to share with readers just how much I loved this series. I have been completely captivated by this story about Tony and Claire - by the twists and turns in the plot, the proverbial game of chess, and their game of cat and mouse. I carried so much hatred for Tony early in the series, but he has truly been redeemed in my eyes. The entire series, including Behind His Eyes - Convicted: The Missing Years, is brilliant. It has been a pleasure to follow this series to the end. Another 5 star novel for Aleatha Romig!
- Reviewed in the United States on May 26, 2014I absolutely love this series and will miss Clair and Tony. We got to see another side to Tony and one that I just knew he had. For me it was never a doubt that Clair would end up with Tony. Even though they had an unconventional start, the ending couldn't have been better. The journey with Clair and Tony has been a wild ride but getting the opportunity to see them work through their relationship and come out on the winning side is a great honor.
Like the saying goes: "We don't get choose who we love." The story of Clair and Tony is what makes that saying true.

Behind his eyes - Convicted: the missing years is a wonderful conclusion to Tony and Claire's story. Ms. Romig outdid herself - she is a talented writer who kept me captive since the very beginning. It's a must read - I could not put down any of the books. This story will stay in my heart forever !

5.0 out of 5 stars The grand finale that will hopefully make everyone finally understand Anthony Rawlings, a must for those that follow this series
Behind His Eyes – Convicted THE MISSING YEARS by Aleatha Romig
5 stars!!!
“Once upon a time, signed a napkin that he knew was a contract. As an esteemed businessman, he forgot one very important rule – he forgot to read the fine print. It wasn’t an acquisition to own another person as he’d previously assumed. It was an agreement to acquire a soul. – Aleatha Romig, CONVICTED”
After a bit of a slow burn in the beginning, this book certainly picks up in pace and delivers continuously until the very last word.
This is by no means Convicted from Tony’s POV, this is so much MORE! If you thought you already knew Tony, you are mistaken, it is not until after you read this instalment that you will finally get to meet and understand the REAL Tony. This book was so enlightening, not only regarding Tony but also all the men involved in this series as we are treated to POV gems from Harry, Phil, John and Brent.
The part that I always thought was missing from Convicted was details of Tony’s incarceration and the trial of Catherine. This is covered in depth in this instalment. It is in fact Tony’s incarceration chapters that are the most enlightening of all. Up until this point Tony had never read Claire’s memoir book that Meredith published, part of his “time” is seeing a therapist and the therapist makes him read them. His reaction and thought processes during this extremely difficult time are at times unsettling but they are a much needed process that he needed to go through to finally realise exactly what he put Claire through and why, it is during this process that we finally get to witness the rebirth of Anthony Rawlings, his metamorphosis was beautiful to watch and finally I understood and could justify why I turned my hatred for Tony to love. I always thought I was some deranged person for loving Tony at the end but we get to see just how much power Catherine had over him, he was in fact broken himself and Catherine manipulated his weaknesses, it is finally when his eyes are opened to her depravity and the love that he is receiving from Claire that he finally sees the light.
“I suppose I should start in the beginning – March 2010. No, that wasn’t when I was born. It was when I began to live. Most people think I’m crazy – maybe I am. You see I began to live the day my life was taken away. Funny, I don’t remember how it happened. I do know now, it never could’ve been stopped.
Anthony Rawlings wanted me. If I’ve learned one lesson in my life – and believe me, I’ve learned many – Anthony Rawlings always got what he wanted. – Claire Rawlings”
Once again this book brought back the memories of Emily and John’s misguided attempts to keep Claire and Nichol “safe” from Tony. While this goes someway to explaining their thought processes it did not make it any easier to read. One thing that did come as a surprise was the mellowing of John towards Tony and how early it started, there is one pivotal moment in this book with regards to their relationship where Tony writes him a letter, I was extremely touched reading this and it just went to show how far Tony had evolved and even though prison was preventing him from doing what he wanted he realised who exactly were the best people to do so in his absence.
We also get to see Tony’s thought processes behind the controversial “divorce” scene towards the end of Convicted. Finally, I could see where Tony was coming from, even though I still cried!! It was part of his internal therapy that he needed to ensure that Claire was with him for all the right reasons, it had to be her decision, he wanted to be wanted for who he was, not what he had done.
“His chest ached with pride and love, sadness and regret. It was the promise of a future swirling in a whirlwind of remorse.”
There are still some shocking things revealed in this book, I thought that all of those were out the way during this series, but no, Aleatha still had a few cards up her sleeve and these were definitely dealt with the shock factor!! Bombshells…I thought Aleatha couldn’t surprise me anymore, but be prepared for more!!
The best part of this series apart from prison and the trial was most definitely the epilogue, to finally see what happened to all of them after was a joy to read and did give some closure on all these characters that we love to read about.
In summary, this book finally uncomplicates a complicated series, the layers are peeled back and we are finally treated to the bare bones underneath. Being in Tony’s head throughout these “Behind His Eyes” has not only been eye opening but has gone quite a way in explaining some of Tony’s behaviour. While he will in no way ever be exonerated for his actions in the beginning and this I will never forgive him for, I could somehow understand how and why he did it. If you were still unsure about your feelings towards him I am sure that this instalment will go quite a way in changing your opinion. It also shows how Tony changed over a period of years, because Convicted never went into these details and it seemed he literally changed overnight; I found it hard to believe. In this instalment we are finally able to witness his transition over a much longer period of time, it made Convicted more understandable and much more believable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Muito bom

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!
It is so good to read the back stories to Aleatha Romig's great story. I do love all the characters in this series - Claire and Tony are really deep and complex characters, especially Tony (well yeah that is a given).
In some ways this series points out that there can truly be redemption, especially when forgiveness is given so honestly and unquestioningly.
Tony and Claire's life journeys are remarkable. Who says that true love cannot come from darkness?
