Leave No Trace: The Final Moments of Florence W. Aldridge (Oyster Point Thriller Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.0 out of 5 stars 395 ratings

Less than 48 hours. That's how long Florence W. Aldridge has to live.

Every event in a person's life is connected. The state of our lives, at any given time, is the sum of everything we have done and everywhere we have been. Our next decision determines, not merely where our lives end, but who we become along the way. How far can one lost woman go to redeem herself by the time the clock stops ticking?

These are the final moments of Florence W. Aldridge...

Note: This is not a short story. It is a vignette, a snippet of time, meant to be used as a companion to SPEAK NO EVIL and Tell NO LIES. This book does not contain spoilers, so it can be read in advance of the books, but it does not stand alone.

Less than 48 hours... That's how long Florence W. Aldridge has to live.

LEAVE NO TRACE is a really short read meant to be used as a companion to the other two books (so far - there should be one more coming I believe) in this series. It is not complete (there are several unanswered questions) nor a romance, and not meant to stand alone either. However, Ms. Crosby states there are no spoilers and it can be read in advance of the other stories, so that's actually what I did.

Although very short, this was a unique read and one I really enjoyed. The fact that I knew what was coming yet not by whom, where, or why had me scrutinizing everything I saw and heard. I also thought Florence (or Flo) was a deeply wounded woman, haunted by her past transgressions. Her pain and guilt hit me like a flash flood and just about broke my heart too. In the end the story was equally sad and suspenseful, and constantly kept me guessing. And while I think I know who the killer is, I obviously won't know until I read the other novels... which is what I plan to do =)

    Setting: South Carolina, USA
    Age: Florence (54)
Kindle Locations: The story ended at 90% and location 668 or 741.

This book which I read third, was not the 5 I gave the others. The daughter's voices are so authentic, but the same cannot be said of Flo. While it clears up some small issues from the first two volumes, it lacks the sharpness of those first two.

This short story of Florence Aldridge final moments before her death in book one of the Oyster Point series fills in many parts that need to be more detailed. We learn a bit more of her relationship with her daughters and husband, and how her long time house keeper Sadie fits into everything with her illegitimate son Josh and the relationship to her children. It also fills in the parts of what did happen before she died, answering the question that she was not alone in the house the night she died. I enjoyed this and it is a quick read.

It was not the best of Crosby stories, but It answered some questions of another. If you have read To Speak No Evil or Tell No Lies this will answer some lingering questions. There are some good nuggets. One quote read, "There is a fine line between emotion and numbness when you're drunk." Another meaningful quote was, "Ever event in a person's life is connected. The state of our lives, at any given time, is the sum of everything we have done and everywhere we have been." I certainly related to Florence Willodean Aldridge, when she said, "Every day that passes with my daughter slipping further and further out of my reach..."

This is my first read by this author and it was disappointing. It was a weak storyline and undeveloped characters. It constantly implied or hinted at situations in the main character's life, but without conclusion or a deeper insight. The main character appeared cold and distant yet she was the only character by which you knew the story because the entire story was told through her eyes. To do that is a fine balancing act and it can create and heighten suspense, but if dragged out too long, it takes away from the story. Because of my lifelong love of books, I usually try to give a book the benefit of the doubt, but I can't find any for this one. It read like an unfinished book and even keeping in mind that this book was a prelude to two other books couldn't save it for me. Maybe it would have worked had it not been a standalone, but the beginning of the second book. Nothing is more disappointing to an avid reader than a poorly written book. Oh well, on the search for the next read...

This is an add on, and pretty obviously so. Speak No Evil is book one, and it says so on every page. Perhaps the author intended to do a book on the third sister and it didn't work out. This is not what I expected.
I enjoyed Speak no Evil and Tell No Lies, but this was definitely unnecessary except to make up a "trilogy" since that was the stated intention. It's a novella about the mother, and everything in it is told in the first 2 books. Save your money.
