Ripples: A Consequences Standalone Novel (Consequences Series) Kindle Edition

Ripples: A Consequences Stand-alone Novel
You don’t have to read the Consequences series to enjoy this stand-alone novel, but if you know Tony Rawlings, you know that disappointing him isn’t an option.
Imagine being his youngest daughter...imagine telling him the unimaginable... “Those who don’t know history are doomed to repeat it.”
Sometimes ideas find you, and dreams begin as nightmares.
Sometimes the truth that has been kept hidden is the key to opening a door you never knew existed.

“You might not know me. I’m the baby of the Rawlings family, the princess, the daughter who came along later. I’m not like my older siblings, successful at everything they touch. My mother and father have provided me with every luxury as well as their unyielding love and support, but I’m not spoiled. I’m also not content. By example, my parents have shown me how love should be. I don’t know their past, and that doesn’t matter. I know what I’ve seen—two people devoted to one another. I don’t believe that I’ll ever find that kind of love, the kind that forgives and accepts all. And as my life falls to pieces and I travel to visit my family to face their disappointment, I’m not even looking for it. I’m looking for an escape...from my life as a Rawlings...from the pressure to achieve and not let others down. I dream of the time I can live for my own desires without the expectations that come with my name.
I don’t find what I’m seeking...it finds me.
Or should I say...he finds me.
This time is different.
I have a family who will search for me and find the answers.
Little do we know—any of us—that my father set my journey into motion long before I was born.”
"Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects." ~Dalai Lama
Ripples (Unabridged Version) is Natalie’s story, the youngest of Tony and Claire’s children—their baby.

This story first appeared in shorter form in Glamour: Contemporary Fairytale Retellings. Due to the length restriction of each novella in that anthology, many scenes in Ripples were shortened or omitted for that anthology. This unabridged edition is the entire story—double in length and—a full-length novel.
Please enjoy this Consequences novel along with special appearances from your favorite Consequences characters.

Ripples is a standalone novel featuring the youngest daughter of the Consequences series' couple, Anthony and Claire Rawlings. It is not necessary to read the Consequences series before reading Ripples, but I highly recommend reading the five books of the Consequences series and the two companion books titled Behind His Eyes BEFORE reading Ripples. The secrets and connections that are revealed in Ripples will make sense if you read Ripples after the others I mentioned. However, if you're only looking for a great BDSM, captive novel I highly recommend Ripples!

Natalie, the bored, rich younger daughter of Anthony and Claire Rawlings, decides to go against her parents' wish that she fly privately to their Christmas retreat. Instead Natalie boards a commercial flight without her body guards and falls victim to a monster who drugs her and whisks her away to a foreign country where she is unable to communicate with the locals. When Natalie awakes she's naked, chained to the sole piece of furniture in a stark all white room. The mattress of the bed she's on has no bedding and when she's permitted to use the attached restroom there are no toiletries nor towels. It's in this sparse, stark white environment that Natalie learns to appreciate everything that she earns. Nothing is given for free. Natalie only has her body and her mind to use to barter for everything from drinking water to the simplest human basic need and the prices are high.

What must Natalie do to earn her freedom from this prison? Will she ever see her family again? Why did this man choose her to be his captive? Read Ripples by Aleatha Romig to find these answers and more. For a real treat start at the beginning with Consequences by the same author.

Ripples is a HFN, but many of us are hoping there will be more to Natalie and Dexter's story. I'd love to see Tony (of Consequences) serve Dexter a lesson in how to really win a woman's love and trust. Ripples reminds me of the first book of Consequences, but I needed more to fall for Tony and I need more to fall in love with Dexter. Dexter titillates, but we've really not seen him prove REAL (full, complete) love for Natalie. I'm hoping there will be more of this couple. If Ms. Romig writes it, I along with many others will read it. For now I'm looking forward to reading another of her books. I haven't decided which one, but I trust this author to deliver a well thought out, complex story that will keep my attention and provide me with all the emotions of the spectrum.

Author Aleatha Romig is probably known best for her dark and mysterious Consequences series and is now revisiting her beloved Consequences characters in a new standalone novel titled Ripples. According to Romig, Ripples appeared in a shorter format in the anthology titled Glamour: Contemporary Fairytale Retellings. Romig either omitted or shortened many scenes of Ripples so it could be included in the anthology, but she is now releasing Ripples in its full-length novel format. Readers who have never read the Consequences series are now able to sample a bit of the series in this spinoff novel!

Ripples focuses on Natalie Rawlings, the youngest daughter of Anthony (Tony) Rawlings and Claire Nichols Rawlings. As the novel begins, Natalie struggles with how to tell her parents that she has failed out of Harvard. She lacks the drive for business that her two siblings inherited from their father and longs for something different – freedom from the expectations and restraints of being the daughter of wealthy and highly successful businessman Tony Rawlings. While traveling overseas for the Christmas holiday, Natalie finds the freedom she’s been searching for in a man named Dexter Smithers, her escape nothing she could have possibly imagined.

Although Natalie and Dexter are brand-new Romig characters, I felt a dark sense of déjà vu while reading their story – strangely reminiscent of how I felt while reading Consequences. Let there be no doubt Romig takes readers to a dark place in this novel. I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach for many chapters of the novel, but as I continued reading, I began to grow more confused by my own feelings. Natalie experiences a tremendous amount of character development which caused me to feel conflicted. Ripples is definitely a love story, but not one in the traditional sense. If you love dark romance, this book might be perfect for you!

Aleatha Romig excels in crafting a mystery. For me, the most remarkable features of her writing are the attention she pays to detail and her uncanny ability to weave layers of clues throughout a book or series. I found myself extremely interested in the background of Dexter Smithers. How did he come to be in Natalie’s orbit? What are his connections to the Rawlings family? I truly enjoyed revisiting Tony and Claire Rawlings, meeting their adult children, and seeing how their family has progressed since the days of the series. I have always been very fond of Phil Roach, so I was excited to see that he and his wife, Taylor, play a huge role in Ripples!

Romig begins her book with an ominous quote from Dalai Lama, “Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into the water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects.” For me, this quote is very telling. Readers of the Consequences series will understand EXACTLY what Romig is trying to convey. If you read Ripples, you are about to embark on an adventure. Although Ripples is written in the format of a standalone novel, Romig left Dexter and Natalie’s story wide open. Overall, Ripples is a solid 4-star novel, and I sincerely hope Aleatha Romig decides to give us more of their story!

Six years ago, I came across a book called Consequences.  Immediately, I was in love with Aleatha Romig and her way with words.  She was able to elicit from me a love/hate relationship with her alpha male Anthony Rawlings and eventually won me over to all things Tony.  Fast forward six years, and I am now back in the Rawlings world but with their youngest daughter Natalie as the star of the show.  Why did I fall in love with Consequences, because it was dark and twisted.  Why am I now in love with Ripples, because it is dark and twisted.  If you are reading Ripples and expecting sunshine and butterflies, this is not the book for you.  Aleatha Romig has both a darker writing style and a lighter side with Plus One and One Night.  When you read Ripples be prepared for darkness, embrace the darkness and remember that this is what Ripples is supposed to be about!  Be ready for the “oh hell no”, “OMG” and “WTF” moments.  Aleatha Romig fans have asked for her darker style to return and she has delivered it tenfold with Ripples!

The only negative things that I could say about Ripples is that it ended and I NEED MORE and it has made me want to do a reread of the entire Consequences series to have my Tony back.  Aleatha I have so many books on my TBR list and you keep bumping down the list with your awesomeness!  You continue to amaze and wow me with every single book.  Bravo!

Again Aleatha Romig provides a page turner that is a stand alone but to those who are familiar with her writing,a chance to jump back in to Claire and Tonys lives.
What a jump it is!History does repeat itself. Girls pick someone like their daddies. All perfectly true.
Natalie has failed at Harvard, doesn't really want to face her family but travels to Europe to meet them. Step in to the fray,Dexter Smithers, seemingly obsessed rich boy. Obsessed by Natalie and determined to have her.
What follows does not always make comfortable reading, you will loath Dexter and his deviant ideals. For Natalie you have many opinions on what she should do and how she should do it.If not her then Tony .
This books takes you on a journey with Nat and Dexter.
The characters are so well written that you will be lucky to change your initial thoughts of dexter and hating him I think comes naturally.
You champion Nat and want her to rise up.
I won't say more but although this is standalone if you have read the other books I think you will crave more. More for selfish needs to jump right back in to the lives of Tony and Claire, not because a further story is required.
    Aleatha Romig is a genius
