What You Do to Me (The Haneys Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 1,933 ratings

Whether it’s repairing a home or taking care of clients’ other needs, Twin Cities handyman Sam Haney is in demand from his mostly female clientele. Despite Sam’s lothario reputation, love isn’t part of his portfolio. He’s built a lot of walls in his time, but the one that’s surrounded his heart ever since the death of his parents is his most solid yet.

Haley Cooper has had enough heartache for a lifetime. Her high school sweetheart up and moved to Indonesia—alone—just two weeks before their wedding. Her mother thinks it’s time for Haley to move on and contracts Sam to work on Haley’s wreck of a house—and anything else, if he’s got the notion.

Sparks fly and passion ignites. But Haley isn’t into Sam’s love-’em-and-leave-’em act. She wants something more. Fixing a house is one thing, but for this handyman, building a relationship will need a whole different set of skills.

WHAT YOU DO TO ME was a fun, enjoyable read. I fell in love with Sam immediately, and Haley grabbed my interest because she knows her heart, but does not quite know how to satisfy that heart.

Throughout the book there were many laugh out loud, heart stopping and heart melting moments. I wanted to crawl inside the book and give Sam a big hug and also reassure Haley all would be well. When Haley and Sam hurt, I hurt; when they battled, I was their strongest ally; when they found one another, no one cheered louder than me!

I found Ms Longley's writing to be eloquent with well developed characters and enough drama to keep me turning pages from beginning to end. I loved WHAT YOU DO TO ME and I am looking forward to the other books in The Haneys Series.

I received this e-book from Amazon Publishing via Goodreads in exchange for an unbiased review.

What You Do to Me was what I would call a traditional contemporary romance. It was a nice, clean, slow-burn romance. There was a bunch of attraction and sexual chemistry, but there were few and not very descriptive sexy times.

I loved the way What You Do to Me started out. The way Sam and Haley met was unique and really funny. Sam was a great but misunderstood guy. He enjoyed women, but wasn't as much of a womanizer as everyone thought. Haley was a sweet, relationship-oriented woman who thought she had lost her happily ever after forever. Their relationship progressed in a natural and fun way.

My favorite part of this romance wasn't the main characters, though. It was Haley's mom. Her meddling was hilarious! I'm so happy I don't have a mother like her, even if she had Haley's best interests at heart.

Overall, What You Do to Me was an entertaining contemporary romance with great writing and fun characters. I really enjoyed reading it. I also loved the sneak peek at book 2 in The Haneys series. I can't wait to read it and get to know Sam's brother Wyatt better.

this is a nice love story about 2 people, one searching for love and one who is afraid to love. Haley's finance left her 2 weeks before their wedding and now months later is ready to get on with her life, with the help of her meddling mother. Sam has lost love ones in his past and has now closed off his heart to loving again preferring not to take a chance of losing someone again. This is not a story that will solve any worldly issues nor will it leave you in a heart wrenching cliff hanger. Instead, this author gives you a very enjoyable read of love, relationships, friends and families. The people that surround you and support you are so important to our well being and the author shows us this with the love story of Sam and Haley.

I have read other books by this author and have loved them all. Recommend her books without hesitation.

What you do to me is funny. It is about the lothario Sam who provides the “Special Touch” on handyman jobs. After listening to his favorite talk shop talk about him, he calls in and saying it’s the women who come after him. Sam he is a construction worker and part owner of the construction company is contracted by Haley’s mother to provide the “Special touch” that he is infamously known for. Haley wants no part of this and Sam feels challenged to prove he is not who she believes him to be. They fall into a relationship of sorts while remodeling her home, getting to know and like each other and the inevitable happens they fall in love. True to form a trumped up conflict occurs but eventually all is well. I love that Haley called him a horndog and loved the creative ways Sam goes about wooing Haley. This is the second book by this author that I have reviewed and look forward to more

Barbara Longley writes in several different genres, and I am crazy about all of them! Her stories are both light, and serious, with sharp dialogue, situations that are sometimes improbable, but no less amusing and compelling. She also has good editors, and it's rare to find typos/errors in her work (although there are perhaps two that I found in this volume, they are so minor, and far between, she is still head and shoulders above many other authors of light fiction).
Ms. Longley typically creates characters that I wish I could know personally: people who may have been stepped on a time or two, or who need to mature a bit, but who are intrinsically good, and you only want the best for them. I hope she keeps on writing!

What You Do to Me is a heartwarming and delightful love story! Sam Haney is a handyman, and his reputation as the "handsiest handyman in town" is revealed during a call-in radio show. Haley, still down in the dumps after a broken engagement, meets Sam when her mother hires him to help her with remodeling her house...a move that her mother hopes will kick-start Haley's love life! Sam has hardened his heart to relationships, but has to wonder if Haley is the one to break through his walls. Will Sam give in to his feelings for Haley, or is he destined to spend his life alone? Can Haley help Sam get over his fears and uncertainties? This story is told with so much warmth and humor, and Sam and Haley are such endearing characters! I'm happy that this is Book 1 of The Haney series and I'm looking forward to the rest! I received this book from a Goodreads giveaway, and I'm glad I did!

Funny and quirky novel. Our hero is a handy man that has had liaisons with former clients. Somehow this topic and his name is brought up during a morning radio show. and foolishly he calls-in to defend himself. Here comes a meddling mother with a daughter that's has men issues and we have a funny story. It is pure romance with some humor, an entertaining read.

Sam and Haley's romance was a great read. Haley's interfering mother engineers a meeting between carpenter, Sam and her paralegal daughter. It backfires, because commitment-phobe Sam, falls for Haley, and she for him, and that's not what her mother wanted at all! The path to true love is bumpy in places, but a guaranteed HEA is assured.
I really enjoyed Sam's family. No doubt his siblings will get stories of their own.
