Salvaged: A Saints of Denver Novel Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 1,241 ratings

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the Marked Men books continues her delightfully sexy Saints of Denver series.

Hudson Wheeler is a nice guy. Everyone knows it, including his fiancée who left him with a canceled wedding and a baby on the way. He’s tired of finishing last and is ready to start living in the moment with nights soaked in whiskey, fast cars, and even faster girls. He’s set to start living on the edge, but when he meets Poppy Cruz, her sad eyes in the most gorgeous face he’s ever seen hook him in right away. Wheeler can see Poppy’s pain and all he wants to do is take care of her and make her smile, whatever it takes.

Poppy can’t remember a time when she didn’t see strangers as the enemy. After a lifetime of being hurt from the men who swore to protect her, Poppy’s determined to keep herself safe by keeping everyone else at arm’s length. Wheeler’s sexy grin and rough hands from hours restoring classic cars shouldn’t captivate her, but every time she’s with him, she can’t help being pulled closer to him. Though she’s terrified to trust again, Poppy soon realizes it might hurt even more to shut Wheeler out—and the intense feelings pulsing through her are making it near impossible to resist him.

The only thing Poppy is sure of is that her heart is in need of some serious repair, and the more time she spends with Wheeler, the more she’s convinced he’s the only man with the tools to fix it.

6 Honey-Coated Stars! A Heartwarming and Heart-wrenching Hurricane of Feels! My SOUL STORM!!!

6 Honey-Coated Stars! A Heartwarming and Heart-wrenching Hurricane of Feels! My SOUL STORM!!!
"Sometimes it takes a nudge to get the knight in shining armor to drop that shield he's using to protect you." I end every Jay Crownover with tears streaming down my face. Sometimes those tears start early and stay etched in my eyes the whole time reading. Some move in ebbs and flows like the tide. All of my tears hit me like a hurricane: powerful, with a force I never quite see coming. That's what Jay's books are: heart-hitting hurricanes. Salvaged is a heartwarming and heart-wrenching hurricane, and oh did this romance RAVAGE and WRECK me. The only way you can read a Jay Crownover book is to go ALL-IN: body...mind...heart...soul. I ditched life, took Salvaged, and made it MINE. I went FULL THROTTLE. I was ALL IN and I felt this story SEEP THROUGH MY SOUL. There is no other author whose books I read that gives readers a GIFT, a personal chapter through the Introduction like the passion poured into Salvaged. Jay Crownover documents her writing journey of her books through their introductions that engage the readers' emotions—feelings in full force—as much as the stories themselves. These introductions, like in Salvaged, are pieces of this author poured into her books, glimpses into what makes Jay 'Jay,' what hits her heart and surfaces in her soul. Life lessons are poured into these pre-book pieces, ones that make you really ponder your life. With each of Jay’s beautiful and brilliant books, I’m inspired and moved before I even start the story as I was with Salvaged. I knew Poppy's story would entangle me in a blanket of emotions where I would experience a mix of chills and heat. I knew her story would be a battle of feels, one I would feel with every ounce of me. I just didn't expect to FEEL SO MUCH. Watching Poppy morph from an awkward duckling into a confident swan was a beautiful journey of self-discovery and healing from a life of hell. Wheeler is the perfect man: gorgeous, inked, compassionate, thoughtful, protective, and sexy. He is not Jay's usual broken hero. Wheeler, a beauty inside and out, is the perfect knight-in-shining armor who knows when to wield his shield and go to battle for those who matter. "I saw you, Poppy. When I had no right and no reason to be looking, I saw you." I MELTED into a puddle of goo. Poppy and Wheeler are WARRIORS, a BEAUTIFUL build-up of strength and colliding souls. Both Poppy and Wheeler have broken pasts. A lone wolf seeks acceptance. A battered lamb seeks strength. Both seek love. Poppy and Wheeler are made for each other and I loved their journey of growth. "I see you, Wheeler. Even when I wasn't looking, I saw you." I MELTED even more. Wheeler and Poppy brought each other back to life while Salvaged BROUGHT ME TO LIFE. This story grabbed my heart, holding it in its grasp, as it delved deep into my soul. "When I didn't know anything or believed in myself, I believed in you." I MELTED until I couldn't melt anymore. Salvaged, this SLOW BURN of a romance seeped into my soul, hitting my heart hard like a hurricane, and I FELT EVERY WORD...EVERYTHING. Salvaged is a splash of sun on top of a storm. Salvaged is strength and salvation after the hardest fought battle of and with life. Salvaged is EVERYTHING, and I LOVED THIS STORY HARD!!! Jay Crownover takes you on an incredible journey with each book, and oh was Salvaged a heart-wrenching, heart-healing, and heartwarming HIGH. Salvaged left its mark, a mark that has lifted this story to a top 2017 read. Salvaged was my SOUL STORM, a hurricane of heart-wielding words that made me yield to every one. I just can’t turn the feels left in the wake of Hurricane Jay off from Salvaged and I don’t want to; I want to keep living through her wondrous words that are LOVE AND LIFE. My heart is forever imprinted with Jay's passionate and poignant words that pierce every part of me every time. That 'Crownover Crack', my term for Jay's addicting words, coined after Rule was born, is my drug for life. This author writes MY KRYPTONITE. I'll never stop chasing Jay's words and hungering for more. 💋💋💋💋💋💋 sweet and strong 'honey' kisses

Oh my word! One fantastic heart wrenching truly beautifully written story.

If you are looking for a book where you're all in as are the characters, this is THE book to read.

I absolutely loved Wheeler and Poppy, and was pleasantly surprised with Wheelers description, I don't know, perhaps it was because how his ex Kallie was so dreadful to him, and that he allowed it to happen.

This was my soul telling her soul that it had been waiting for a long time to find its other half.

This story of healing hearts has you invested with how Poppy and Wheeler get through this life they find themselves in.

With everything Poppy went through at the dreadful hands of both her father and her husband, people who are supposed to love her. I loved Salem and Rowdy before, but even more that they were able to help Poppy's situation. Loved that Poppy was working through the terrors that had plagued her and that she was able to move on.

Wheeler was an all round good egg! he loved with a veracity that kept him grounded, he had manners of someone with a much different upbringing than he had. He was a fighter for survival.

Poppy was what forever was supposed to feel like.

The abusive story line really tugs at your heart, and with the blossoming love between Wheeler and Poppy, it is piece by piece slowly knitted back together. You experience such raw emotion whilst reading their story and whilst I was (in my head!) hoping for thing to move faster, you certainly realise the need for the slow burn of their courageous story.

It has been a great honor, getting to meet all the fabulous Mark Men and their amazing ladies, and the terrific Saints of Denver men also with their amazing ladies.

It is sad to come to the end of another great series, and who knows maybe the next generations of their kids make it to have exceptional stories of their own.

Thank you Jay Crownover for putting your words down on paper and giving us a bunch of honest, good, sexy, dirty talking men and Beautiful sexy and strong ladies, not forgetting the two beautiful specimens of extra hot men in Lando and Dom.

“I knew all about needing to find something that tethered you to reality. Without it, the past and the possibility of a shattered present could fling you into a really ugly place that was hard to escape from.”

I swear I wrote this review after I finished reading the book, but alas I never did. But as proof of how absolutely amazing this novel is, I still find myself constantly thinking about it months later. I've re-read this book 2 times already because I honestly can't get enough of Poppy and Wheeler's story. It is just that good. Every book by Jay Crownover makes me feel thousands upon thousands of emotions, and I wouldn't want it any other way. And how many times in life can you feel an author is truly speaking to you? With every character and every book Jay writes, you feel like she was writing her book directly for you. And that my friends is something incredibly rare in literature. To be able to connect with a character in the way that Jay lets you, it something that very few authors have a gift for, and I am count myself fortunate to be able to read her words.

“I could do one day at a time because I was finally in a place where I realized how very lucky I was to still be here making my way through the days, be they good or bad.”

I was intrigued by Poppy's character as soon as we met her, and was praying that she would get her own book. I knew in many ways that it would wreck me and shatter my heart into millions of tiny pieces. But I didn't care... I needed her story to be told. Jay Crownover went all in with this book, and it was like you could feel how much of her heart and soul she poured into this novel. Heck, even her Introduction made me tear up, and I didn't even start the book yet! With every book Jay writes, she leaves a bit of herself in the story...life lessons, words of inspiration, etc. And that makes the book worth 5 stars already.

“No, your heart was listening to what someone else was telling it to do. This is the first time it’s been able to speak for itself. Listen to it, little sister.”
“I’m afraid of what it might have to say, Salem.” My voice shook and so did my hands.
“That’s how you know the message is important, Poppy.”

Poppy and Wheeler were always meant for each other. I didn't care how it happened, how messy it would be (and it was bound to be messy because...Jay Crownover), but it had to happen. I felt every single one of Poppy's battles in my soul. I experienced every up and down she did, and felt my heart break whenever hers did as well. Watching Poppy bloom from a wallflower into a confident young woman was one of the proudest moments of my life. I could relate to Poppy's shyness a lot, and I realized that my own growth over the past year mirrored Poppy's quite a bit. And it made me proud of not only Poppy but also the person she had become.

“But I promise you that if you let me I will give you only good things to dream about from here on out, Poppy. Once you let me in, I will chase all your monsters away.”

Wheeler is a heart-stoppingly gorgeous, inked man that is compassionate, thoughtful, and oh-so-sexy. Seriously, I need me a Wheeler in my life. What I loved so much about him was the fact that he wasn't your typical Jay Crownover "hero." Sure, he's a little messed up, but he also knows how to fight his own battles and knows when to step up to the plate to help others. He is kind through and through, and while he is willing to fight a battle for someone else, Wheeler also encourages the person to fight their own battle. This is very important for me because so many times now, it's all about the sexy guy saving the girl from herself. But no, Wheeler flips that whole knight-in-shining-armor troupe on it's head and encourages Poppy to be who she is and go to battle for herself.

“Even if those scars you have from what you survived were on the outside, I’d still be right here and want you just as much. They’re part of you and you are who I want to be with.”

Together Poppy and Wheeler are stronger, braver, and experienced a growth within themselves that neither saw coming. I loved watching their journey together and how they let the other help them when they needed it the most. Their love for each other burns so brightly, and because of that, both Poppy and Wheeler are able to guide each other through the darkness in their lives. Their story is all about fighting back and winning .

“I see you, Wheeler. Even when I wasn’t looking, I saw you.”

This is a must read for all Jay Crownover fans, but also for anyone who just wants to read a poignant story of 2 people that came together when they needed each other. Jay's writing is absolutely addicting, and I will never get enough of it. But as far as addictions go, this one ain't too bad. Please read this book, and watch as it easily becomes one of your top books of 2017!

“We like to think we’ll be able to take on anything, tackle anyone that threatens what we love. The truth is we can’t always be there, but we will always protect what we love.”

    Happy reading :)

What?!! This is a Saints of a Denver novel after all.
I strongly recommend that you buy the series from the start -Levelled. Whilst your could read this book as a standalone, I feel you would miss out on back story references.
The SOD series started after the Marked Men series but you don't have to start with the MM series first.
Back to the book, I agree with other reviewers this has more romance and less angst. Both the lead characters are lovely. The book is sweet, not dentist requiring sweet, but more a tug at the "feels" sweet.
In short Poppy is an abuse survivor and Wheeler is a man who has bettered the cards dealt to him to become a garage owner and restorer of classic cars. The two are drawn to each other due to what the have overcome not because they are broken. It's a little rougher than boy meets girl, girl kisss boy etc, but it is sweet, warm and best of all shows the power of tenacity.
For readers of the series the ending is exactly what you would want.
For those new to Jay Crownover - trust me you will love the series, and there are a lot of other books written by this talented and generous writer.

We already know the charecters from their participation through the Marked Men & Saints of Denver Novels and because of that we expect so much of their own history. And what I can say is amazing see them fighting to stay together even with some many between them. I loved to watch how determinate Poppy became on what she wants and deserves and Wheleer is such a lovely man. I read in some media post that Jay left the best for the last and I can't agree more. A beautiful story to end such amazing Novels of incredible painted people! I loved it all and I already miss them. I hope Jay give us some kind of bonus because I'm not tired of them at all.
