Patience: Bride Of Washington Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 236 ratings

Travel to Victorian America in 1890 with award winning and bestselling western romance author Caroline Clemmons for a humorous novel about two people destined for one another after a turbulent getting acquainted period. This book is sweet and suitable for readers over 18. After a fire destroys the factory where Patience Eaton worked followed by a succession of job failures, she travels from Massachusetts to Washington to marry the man her father chose via a matchmaker. While Andrew Kincaid appears to be a very nice man, he’s older than her father’s and not someone she wants to marry. Her prospective groom places her in a respectable boarding house and agrees to give her a job in the office of his commercial apple orchard so she can learn about his life and business. But working alongside her handsome future stepson presents unexpected complications. Two years ago, an unjust accusation ruined Stone Kincaid’s chance at happiness. Now he concentrates all his energy on building the family business. When he meets his prospective stepmother, he’s angry that his father cares so little for his mother’s memory that he sent for a mail-order bride younger than Stone. He believes Patience to be interested only in his father’s fortune. Stone plans to keep an eye on the attractive woman who’s slated to become his stepmother. Can two people working at cross purposes arrive at a compromise?

This sure was a twister! How sweet of Andrew and his dead wife's best friend to arrange to have a mail order bride come with the supposed idea of marrying Andrew, when the planned for his son Stone to marry Patience all along.

I suspected it because never once did Andrew say she is to be my wife, what he said was she will be a Kincaid soon. I loved how it all played out.

The surprise was that Patience's family moved to live near her, and wow she had twin boys already and a brand new baby girl was born the day her sister Mercy and her husband and son arrived to spend the holidays with her and her family.

A very beautiful story, I loved it. These American Mail Order Brides series are fantastic! Thank you for writing this one Caroline.

Just loved this book. The characters are developed and described in detail to give a visual reality. Watching a romance and deep love for both Patience and Stone unfold, blessed my heart. Patience is a woman after my own personality. She speaks her mind, yet bears no malice. Stone hides his heart behind a shroud of hurtful gossip for which Patience is wise enough to understand. There are many enjoyable happenings and plenty of laughs within this story. One of the best love stories I have read in a long time.

I think this story is my first one by Caroline Clemmons. I enjoyed it and hoped for the the outcome. I was not disappointed. I do wish the story was edited for typos and left out words. I had to re-read many sentences to figure out what was being said because a sentence was started and changed or words were left out. I enjoyed the excerpt for more of Ms. Clemmons' stories and plan to read some of them. This romance story is cleanly written. Do work on the editing and correcting of typos, please.

Patience is hesitant to become a mail-order bride but wants to help her family. Just as she starts warming to the idea, she realizes her froom to be is her father's age and her soon to be stepson is much closer to her age, and he's incredibly handsome. Will she be able to go through with the wedding and keep the family together?

Wonderful mail order bride story, so charming and sweet. Cute twist on a universal theme, too, having the bride come out to be married to someone else. Nice plot that was interwoven with the mail order bride aspect. A hero and heroine that you could definitely cheer on to their happily-ever-after moment. I enjoyed this book a lot, especially the characterizations and the descriptions of the settings. The secondary love story with the mature couple was an added bonus. If you like historical westerns and mail order bride stories, this one is a must read!

Patience is a magnificent mail-order bride story! She comes to Destiny to marry one man without knowing he wanted her to marry his son. The delightful plot twists allow all to work out as a true happily ever after!

***I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts are 100% my own.***

If you’ve read any of the other American Mail Order Bride Series books, you’ll know that they start off with a fire in the factory in which these ladies worked. Patience and her sister lived near Boston and due to cost of living and low wages for teachers (their father’s profession), they needed work to help make ends meet for their family. They had a hard time finding gainful employment that didn’t threaten the virtue of these women. And as any father would, he did what he thought was best. He checked into the mail-order matchmaker that the girls were told about and contacted her. And this begins Patience journey from the East Coast to the West Coast.

Patience met her intended, wealthy orchard farmer, Andrew Kincaid and though she wasn’t going to back out on her word, she wasn’t feeling anything other than friendly and fatherly vibes for him. His son Stone, on the other hand, was a whole different story.

I won’t go further into the story than this. I will say that this story was funny, infuriating, and at moments downright despicable. There’s a character that’s meant to be a benevolent character and I can’t bring myself to like her. She’s mettlesome and downright horrible. And selfish. MIGHTY MIGHTY selfish. I liked Andrew, I liked Stone, and I liked Patience. Andrew really was like an uncle and Stone, though awfully broody, was a good man at heart. Patience was strong and independent and kind. She was humble and not above giving a good wallop if the need arose.

Ms. Clemmons wrote a delightful tale of a woman who just tries her best to make the most of what’s handed to her without causing anyone any undue hardship. She didn’t like the idea of being away from family, but did it because it was better for everyone. She didn’t want to marry an man older than her father, but she’d given her word. But she was going to do all these things because it was what was best for the situation handed to her and she did so without pitying herself. I enjoyed the story, though I thought it could have been longer. But I’m a glutton for long books. :D Would I recommend this book? I would. And I’m going to slowly purchase my way through the series. Because I’m now intrigued by this whole idea.

Very enjoyable, and entertaining story. There probably were many instances of parents trying to find martial partners for their children. The fact that the story took place in my home state, and even in Tacoma Washington where I was born and raised, made fun reading
