4.4 out of 5 stars 64 ratings

New Cover. Mildly sensual. Aurora is determined to visit her namesake towns on her way to Colorado, and the independent woman comes by her flaming red hair naturlally with an inner fire to match. When a flash flood outside Post, Texas derails her plans temporarily, rancher Will Harrison rescues her from the raging waters. She's his guest for thirty-six hours, long enough for Will to fall head over heels for her. He has a hunch she loves him back if he can convince her to move out of the fast lane and into his life forever.

About the Author

As long as I can remember, I've made up adventures. I admit the early creative stories featured me riding the range with Roy Rogers and Dale Evans and saving the West. What a disappointment to learn that Roy was exclusively committed to Dale! Eventually, my best friend from across the street and I decided to become better detectives than Nancy Drew. We drove our parents and neighbors crazy sticking our pert little noses where they didn't belong. About that time I started writing down my adventures, but mostly I was a reader. Not until I read Nora Roberts' early novels did I decide to create my own romance manuscripts. My road to publishing was a lot slower than Nora's was. No surprise there! I still read Nora's books-as well as those of countless other authors-but now I write full time. Unless life interferes, that is. My Hero and I live one a small acreage in the ranching and horse country of North Central Texas. Finally, my childhood dream has come true and I'm in the midst of cowboys. Our two daughters are grown and in their own homes not far away. Living with Hero and me now are Webster, our sweet black Shih Tzu, and our two shorthaired cats: Sebastian, a large black and white tuxedo who thinks he's our watchcat; and Bailey Erin, a shy apricot tabby who mostly stays in my office. When I'm not writing, I love spending time with family, reading, traveling with Hero, browsing antique malls and estate sales, and digging into family history and genealogy. Writing about strong heroes and heroines who overcome amazing obstacles to forge a meaningful life together is my passion. I love to hear from readers at caroline @ carolineclemmons (dot) com. Through a crazy twist of fate, Caroline Clemmons was not born on a Texas ranch. To make up for this tragic error, she writes about handsome cowboys, feisty ranch women, and scheming villains from a small office her family calls her pink cave. She and her Hero live in North Central Texas cowboy country where they ride herd on their rescued cats and dogs. The books she creates there have made her an Amazon bestselling author and won several awards.

This was my first book of Caroline Clemmons, and I'm going to be reading more. Caroline has a gift for creating her scene settings, whether it be the outdoors or inside a house. She brings you into the scene, and makes you feel like you're there. Plus, she's created an unusual hero-a bereaved cowboy who has a broken leg and is in a cast. Yet he still manages to save the heroine. Will's wife died three years ago, and he mourns her still. He's just come to the point of being ready to find love again. (This is also a refreshing change in a romance, that a hero can have dearly loved a deceased wife. The heroine doesn't have to be better. She can be a different love.)

Caroline also adds the hint of danger with brings a tense element to the tender romance (there's a nice, slow courtship). The romantic suspense element bring about a satisfactory conclusion to the story.

This was the first book I read by Caroline Clemmons and I enjoyed it immensely. I felt a real connection with the little town and all the characters in it. Will is a great hero, he has his flaws but even those are lovable qualities in him. Aurora was fantastic as well...she was courageous and independent without being bitchy and was able to love without giving up her dream for herself and I really loved that about her.

I must explain why with all my raving about how great the story and the characters are, why I only gave it 4 stars. That is because I felt if there was ever a story that deserved an epilogue this was it. All the major plot points were wrapped up but there were a few small things left hanging like what did Aurora's parents say to Will on the phone that first time?!? Also I would have really liked that last little sneak peek at their happy ending...although I think its a credit to Ms. Clemmons writing that I was so drawn in that I wanted an epilogue that much!

If you enjoy well written, heart warming romances then you'll be hard pressed to find better than Be My Guest.

A bit predictable: The independent woman searching for her future place; the brooding widower; the adorable daughter; a heartwarming cast of supporting characters with their unique contributions to the plot. While the characters were less developed than in some books I've read, the research was spot on - nowhere did a find a distracting out-of-place detail - and the story is rich with detail. The author brings it all together to deliver a delightful escape as love catches both the hero and the heroine by surprise as they learn more each day just how many of the same things they treasure. There is a conflict built in near the end that is a bit contrived and stiff (his reluctance to have a working wife) but that doesn't detract from the overall experience. Definitely recommend it as a summer read.

Disliked lust winning the day and liked that live conquered in the end regardless to all else that was happening.
