Shadow of Silence Kindle Edition
The pearl in the crown of her rural Georgia family, Annie is married to a handsome FBI agent, who is heir to a real-estate fortune. The pieces of her life fit seamlessly together until a few weeks before when her dream-come-true became her nightmare-in-disguise.
As Annie is forced to choose between equally unacceptable alternatives, she becomes someone she hardly recognizes. Required to live with an unbearable secret, she deceives those she loves most in an effort to protect them.
How far will Annie stray from her moral center? Will her choices threaten all she holds dear? As her story unfolds, readers are provided a glimpse of human suffering, suspense, irony, a sprinkling of humor, a touch of romance, and the element of surprise while Annie struggles to salvage her self-respect and preserve her family.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 30, 2020This is more then a 5*... I wanted to know the outcome of Annie's situation and if it would play out as positive or negative in her near perfect life. Should she have kept the lie?
- Reviewed in the United States on April 16, 2018Loved this book. Slow to start but once it got going, I didn't want to put it down. I would definitely tell others to read it

- Reviewed in the United States on August 26, 2024Author Judith Erwin has given us another gem of a story, one with textured layers and life questions to ponder. Her main character is Annie Brennan Cameron, a woman with a near perfect life. She’s happily married to a hunky FBI Agent with a strong moral code, has a beautiful home outside Atlanta, and a close-knit extended family. The only thing marring her happiness is her failure to get pregnant, something both she and her husband crave after four years of marriage. They’re on the cusp of considering IVF when Annie discovers she’s pregnant. Instead of joy, she’s in a full-fledged panic, almost certain the child is not her husband’s, but that of a family member who assaulted her. Conflicted, she suffers with this secret in silence, convinced it will destroy her family, possibly her marriage. In desperation, she even considers abortion, an act that goes against her moral and religious beliefs, but that might solve what she sees as an impossible dilemma
Author Erwin offers no easy answers to her character and presents the reader with a series of twists. I couldn’t put the book down until I learned how this thorny plot evolved and resolved. I highly recommend this beautifully- told, fast-paced story.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 1, 2020I found it hard to reconcile that this story was set in 2001 as the protagonist and her concerns & values seemed straight out of the 1950s. The writing is perseverative like a YA-style diary. Her one serious problem dominated the entire story. If your idea of a good novel is a young woman's fear of making waves , then maybe you'd like it. I cannot recommend it to someone who likes good literature.
- Reviewed in the United States on April 14, 2014If ever a book just screamed "make me a film", this one does.. Who could read this book and not be affected, it is a part of everyone's life.
