- Reviewed in the United States on December 19, 2020The author gives a thrilling fun ride, love how he mixes the seriousness and humor that makes you laugh out loud. I really like how he gives you a serious topic that really makes you think and opens your eyes to some very serious issues.I wish this candidate was real I would have vote for him. Walt is a delightful over the hill cop who came in to service late in life. He always has a story to tell that is filled with danger, thrills and lots of excitement. As with life things never go the way you think they will, justice isn't always easy and sometime just a little over the top, things can go wrong in an instant. Walter is a retired Realtor and up in years, his bones don’t work the way they use to. The author at times made my mouth hung open and I closed my eyes as Walt and the men beside him go through the pains but at the same time I could stop myself from laughing. Walter has a dry sense of humor that is right up my alley. When the book started out my heart went to my throat until the author pulled a fast one. This book is mostly about Walt but is side kicks are there as well. I fell in love with Walter and his side kicks from the first book and continue to fall in love with them with each that follows. It was a thrilling, exciting, dangerous, wonderful listen that has a little of everything between these pages. Once you start this series you won’t be able to read/listen to just one.
Mr Kuch is a wonderful narrator from his male to female voices you are captivated, he really brings Walter to life with his dry humor that fits him to a T. Each of his character voice really fit what I picture the character to sound like which makes it very easy to picture them in your mind. I had no trouble picturing the danger, ribbing, humor and excitement as it unfolds. There are no background noise, no repeating of words and no volume changes. He brings true emotions to his characters you can feel the power of the excitement, danger, thrills, and humor along with the dry humor of dear old Walter. I cannot tell you just how thrilling this audio was and how much I enjoyed his work. The narrator knows how to bring you the thrills, excitement that holds your attention from the first page until the last. I really can’t wait to listen to more of this series from him.
I really love this author and narrator, it was a pleasant surprise that I have total enjoyed, each book is better than the last., Love the authors twist of wording to come up with things you would never have thought of in that context which really makes it more humorous. This is a clean story base but does have passion and a little romance but not as you know it. Which makes it even more thrilling to be able to have a family and teens that can read it and have something to talk about. It is a series that both of the sexes will enjoy. There are tons of excitement, danger, and even a few thrills with a twist that you don’t see coming. I was hooked from the first page and own most of this series. I love Walter and all the characters, they bring so much to the story line. The author and narrator really know how to pull the listener in giving a very highly entertain listen that captivates you with a story you can’t put down. I can’t tell you just how much I truly enjoyed this.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 10, 2023This was my first and last time reading this writer due to the ending. I absolutely hate books that leave loose ends - particularly one that has completely driven the plot. I even downloaded a sample on my Kindle of the next book in the series to see if I could find the answer to who is elected president, only to find the previous book glossed over this detail/cliffhanger ending. What was even worse is that in the next series book (#10), the author has Walt tell you what his previous assignment involved in this book 9; yet the author cannot clear up this one detail/outcome for the reader. Although some might argue the omission is left to the reader’s imagination, this choice makes no sense; much time is dedicated to the amount of political content in the book, and thus the lack of a resolution of one of the MAIN THEMES is just poor literary license on the author’s part.
That being stated as my personal reason for not buying any more of the books (which saddens me as there are so many more in the series), I will say the author has a delightful way of revealing characterization. His showing and telling you personality traits; the clever way he effectively uses the first person narration by Walt, the main character; and the humorous sprinkling of both dialogue and situations throughout every single chapter is quite refreshing. His take on politics is rather interesting as well, as it is not an in-your-face approach but instead comes off as a more common sense approach that lends itself to comedy. I found myself frequently chuckling as I read. I would label this more of a cozy comedy than a mystery - there is simply not much mystery in the book.
Another major pro that is a big tell that perhaps the author is targeting a more family friendly audience is the overwhelming lack of profanity, crudeness, and blatant lack of sexual content. Love and romance within marriage, main characters who exhibit a true moral compass, and a sense of community - even with the odd, dysfunctional, and second-chance type of folks Walt has in his circle of acquaintances - are all valued and given worth. It is difficult to find such books in today’s market.
Perhaps not all Thornhill’s Lady Justice books end without resolving main ideas; if this lack of resolution bothers you, read the reviews of his books before buying them. I did not do so, or I would have had a hint not to buy (even at the discounted Kindle price). Lesson learned. If major loose ends don’t bother you and you can just appreciate good, clean humor in a quick read, buy this book. You will love the author’s humorous insight into life for a 60’s something main character!

4.0 out of 5 stars not a bad read
This is an idealised view of politics, but that's not a bad thing. A quick and enjoyable read. This was well researched and makes the reader wonder about the issues raised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another good one
Yet again Robert Thornhill has written a winner. I enjoyed reading this book and with the looming presidential election was perfect timing. I'm sure every country would love to have a candidate like Ben Foster in their midst. Although I did miss the old crew from the Three Trails!

5.0 out of 5 stars One isn't dead at 70
I read this book whilst in hospital. I am 74 and was with 5 other gentlemen all over 70 and thought that if they read it it would give them confidence to get up and go. Funny yes, romantic yes, could it happen, in our messed up world today, Definately.

3.0 out of 5 stars Childiish but fun
This is a somewhat childish plot well dissimulated behind some rather fun excentricities.
