Review
Like its predecessors, Lady Justice and the Assassin has a plot ripped from today's headlines. The several sub-plots are blended perfectly within the main theme, which is a conspiracy to assassinate the President of the United States AND the Vice President, while they both are making public presentations half a continent apart from one another. The pretext for the assassinations could not be more plausible. In fact, I would be VERY surprised if Robert Thornhill has not made himself a focus of federal investigation for detailing so much legitimate-sounding preparation for an assassination attempt. If not for the insertion of several comical sub-plots, one might very well be excused for wondering if this was an actual conspiracy gone awry.
Lady Justice and the Assassin is flawlessly executed. As with its precursors, one cannot help but believe this story could be an actual account of the daily extremes faced by police officers everywhere. Thornhill writes as if his primary reference is his daily police log. It is hard to conceive of anyone actually making up this stuff! It is just too authentic feeling to be pure fiction. Yet, in spite of the severity of the main plot, the story is extraordinarily entertaining and humorous... too much so to NOT be fiction. Thornhill deservedly has been recognized multiple times for his Lady Justice series. Lady Justice and the Assassin seems likely to garner yet another award for this brilliantly talented author. If you are new to this series, and enjoy humor mixed with mystery, I urge you to not wait another minute; buy this book and prepare to become an avid fan of Robert Thornhill.

- Reviewed in the United States on August 14, 2019Lady Justice and The Assassin is my thirteenth enjoyable read/listen from author Robert Thornhill. Another entertaining clean read, filled with puns & one-liners, as always dealing with current social topics. Each book in the series seems better than the last as Thornhill continues to up his game. Narrator George Kuch again adds greatly to the listening enjoyment with his wide variety of entertaining voices & inflections, Kuch IS Walt Williams! I’ll definitely be reading more from Thornhill! I was given an Audible copy of this book & am voluntarily reviewing it. Up next is Lady Justice & the Lottery. Since I own both the Kindle & Audible editions I was able to follow along while being read to. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).
- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2014Lady Justice And The Assassin was my first read of this extensive series (about 15 titles, I think) and it was really enjoyable enough for me to say that it is far from the last.
Written from the point of view of Walt, a 69 year old cop, the characters in this fun story are about as far from retirement as you can get. They love what they do and they really do it well. The friendships of the players here are what strikes the reader as being realistic and honest.
While the story here is pretty far-fetched, it does make for a good one and it does so at a pace that quickens as it progresses. Like any good mystery, drawing the reader into the story takes a little while to be set up. But when it does, you can't turn the pages fast enough. It's not a story line that's commonplace or even very believable, but the characters are crafted so well that the reader won't let go.
I look forward to others in the series. I have a feeling that the likability of the characters will continue easily to the other titles and will let the reader develop a relationship with Walt and his buddies.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 9, 2015It's a story you could read in tomorrow's headlines...but hope you never will: the clash of bigotry, hatred and politics, sculpted by a severely damaged economy and desperation. Yet under it all, the love of family and friends provides the glue that keeps us sound. A good and entertaining read with terrific characters, action and humor.

I believe this is the only writer who can make something like an assassination seem humorous. Not only can he do this, he can do so tastefully. Could this actually happen? I am not sure but, it raises many issues and food for thought. I had never really thought about hatred being a ‘learned’ behaviour. As I ponder , I realize, at birth we naturally bond. After a few months, I believe we love. There is much more which can be said on the subject but would take me off course. Therefore, I shall refrain. My point is we naturally start out on a path of love. We do not know ‘hate’. Hate is learned. Hate is taught. The more people who gather within a group of hatred grown stronger, powerful and more justified in their actions. One can’t help but bond with the characters. In fact, they are what make the story seem believable in some aspects. For those who ranted on how unrealistic they thought it was, please remember, you were not reading a biography. It is fiction. The purpose is to bring enjoyment in a imaginative and interesting way. This book certainly kept me entertained throughout. Robert Thornhill is a keeper. -by Renee Robinson
- Reviewed in the United States on September 9, 2013I really enjoyed this book. I have been seeing the Lady Justice series on goodreads, but this is the first one I have read. I was pleasantly surprised. Walt makes a good leading man. I like his relationships with his wife and his friends. It is refreshing to read about someone who has his life together. The plot about the assassination attempt on the president seemed plausible, although the battle with the gang members seemed a little far fetched to me. I liked the touches of humor in the book, and the way that it made me think about political issues. I am definitely going to read more from this author.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 15, 2014This was the type of book that never goes out of style. Right versus wrong with clear distinction between the two. It was an easy read and an easy decision to read as the writing style draws you in from the first page. I love reading this kind of book when I need a little pick me up because this is the kind of story that leaves you smiling. It's based on old fashioned, (but never 'out of fashion'), morals and good people. It was a quick and fun read for me-I'm betting it will be for you too. Take the time to read just for the pure fun of it & the feel good feeling you'll get. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant
This is the second in the series that I have read and it's an absolutely brilliant read!!!!!!!!! The heroes are so unlikely that it's very easy to bond with them and become wrapped up in their adventures. I would really love to see their adventures on the screen!!!!!! An extremely well written book that draws you through a fantastic storyline. The mark of a great book is that you're always sad when you come to the end, and that's the case with this one. An absolutely brilliant read and I highly recommend it.
