Psycho (Brawlers Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 888 ratings

Welcome to Brawlers Bar…

Life wasn’t easy when you were certifiable, Gerald “Psycho” Clemons lived on the fringes of society. Five years he hadn’t thought twice about riding with a group who saw most laws as flexible. When the leader of the group turned crazier than Psycho, he stepped in and made the man pay. He’d never been rewarded for his temper before, yet that’s what happened when he earned a permanent place and a job as a bouncer. Everyone walked a wide circle around him, and he liked it that way. One look from his cold black eyes and he had people backing up. Then he met a man who had to be crazier than him.

Decadence Bakery was Ben Morin’s dream come true, and he loved it, but he grew tired of his lonely existence. Six months earlier he’d turned on the open sign and hopefully changed his life for the better. Ben loved his small cottage in the middle of nowhere even with the 3 a.m. rumbling of motorcycles and loud music at the farm next door. Although one thing he didn’t love, was his new hobby of watching one of the terrifying men next door. What could a little harmless peek now and then hurt?

Sweet and older wasn’t his type, but Psycho couldn’t deny the need to possess the beautiful baker. It was stronger than even the insanity he barely kept at bay, could he have a man who looked passed it or would Ben run like all the rest?

I admit that I really love these books.
One of the reasons is that each character is absolutely unambiguously themselves. If you read gay romance you find that the MCs too often end up being idealistic mirrors of themselves and are often interchangeable. Not here. Brash, loud, foul, sweet, passionate; they have it and they wear it well.
Then there's dialogue. These stories are pretty much dialogue driven and it fuels the interactions. And the dialogue, like the characters is brash, funny, loud, loving...
And despite the sometimes larger than.life personalities the romance is based on what we all go through and worry over. Do we fit and are we good enough. Not a lot a angst or whining, which is good.
Bad thing. There are some editing issues with this book. Not enough to ruin it, but enough to make you notice.

This is a hot and funny story. Ben and Psychos first meeting is hilarious and I love Psychos inability to keep things inside and just say whatever is on his mind. The tough, big fighter and the 40 something baker make a unlikely but beautiful couple. The characters in these series are flawed, but very likable even though the fighting, swearing and craziness. A great read.

Soooo I have been reading J.M Dabney's work since the beginning of the Twirled Ink series and was sooooooo happy that she did a Brawlers series, because all these guys deserve their own story! But Psycho...lol, he's just the best! He's a unique character who has an abrasive, no-filter, do what you need to do to survive mentality and it's just so endearing to see him try to be a gentleman to Ben. I laughed out loud quite a few times and had a smile throughout the entire story. The fact that Pscyho doesn't have a filter leads to some of the greatest dialogue I've read and his confrontation with Ben's ex is the best! His reaction and his words are just so funny and so Psycho!! Their sex scenes were down and dirty and just plain HOT! I think they've been my favorite of her series so far!! This story was amazing and I can't wait to read the rest of the guys' stories!! :)

This wasn't the usual biker read and I loved it. If been looking at this book for months and decided to give it a chance, and I'm so glad that I did. The writing and storyline was great and kept me interested along with all of the characters even the supporting ones I truly loved. I'm definitely going to keep reading more from this author.

Book 2 in the Brawlers series and I'm still completely hooked. I absolutely adore the character of Psycho. From what we learn of his past, it's no wonder he's a little intense! I loved that he just said whatever was on his mind and didn't really have a filter. Ben, the older and more vanilla owner of the local bakery, is the perfect compliment to Psycho's more chaotic personality. They both give the other the something that they need. Ben gives Psy the unconditional acceptance and love he's never had, and Psy in turn, helps Ben to find his unrestrained and wild side. I'm completely addicted to these guys and can't wait to read more of them. Again, the only negative that dropped a star was the serious need for a good editor. Nothing overly major - just lots of annoying grammatical errors.

Crave (the first book) was really enjoyable, but some of the tension annoyed me...well more like the characters starting shit and messing up Crave’s happily-ever-after. I still loved the book though and immediately bought this one. Psycho is my favorite Brawler so far. He is so sweet and genuine, even if it’s hidden under a really badass crazy shell. His insecurities are relatable, and seeing him find his match with Ben is awesome. Plus Bernie and Stacey are great characters. I am off to the next book (Bull)!

... man muss schon etwas verrückt sein, um so einen Namen zu verdienen. Einfach herrlich wie Psycho und Ben einander näher kommen. Und dann noch die Ex-Frau - köstlich. Super Buch.

I read far too many books and most of them are enjoyable and entertain me for an hour or so. only a select few authors are in a different league -the one where you pre-order before even reading the blurb as you are so excited there's a new book out. This author ranks among the select few. You do need to read the twirled ink series before brawlers but that's ok as they are just as fantastic. The secret as to why I find this author so good is easy -j m dabney knows how to write amazing characters. A perfect blend of crazy and endearing. I love every one of them and would love to be part of their crazy friendships. That's why this author will remain on my pre-order immediately list. Psycho is just perfect -crazy and totally confused by normal relationships. Ben is so Mr average and Psycho does confuse him at first which was just brilliant to read. On top of that even the side characters are so funny -Psychos ex wife is as crazy as he is but again totally endearing. Not many authors have that skill and I'm tempted to just pick this book up and 're read it all over again.

After reading Crave, which I loved, I had to read Psycho. Although it did seem to have as much humour as the first. I loved the intensity between Psycho and Ben. Twitch is still my favourite.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great Brawler story
Reviewed in Australia on March 31, 2021
This was very satisfying to see the giant scary man of few words find someone who loved him just as he was. He was definitely someone you wanted to get a HEA but not be tamed too much along the way. I loved the passion between Psycho and his silver fox, Ben. Psycho was a dominant in the bedroom (and the counter, the wall etc etc) and a protective bear for his man. My only critique is that the author seems to feel the need to make the next guys to be written about always sound more scary and badass than the one you are reading about. The same one who sounded the most dangerous in the last book. It takes me out of the story for an eye roll moment coz it’s not needed, these guys are all something special.
