Rick Cantelli, P.I. (Book 4) Shades of Death (Rick Cantelli, P.I. Detectives) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 353 ratings

Rick and Lo try to protect a reality TV star better known for her selfie pictures on Twitter than her acting ability. She’s run afoul of a world class financier disrupting economies in countries, ordering deaths, and owning politicians everywhere. He thinks he’s above any law until he crosses Rick and Lo.

The clash between Cantelli-land and the Jorge Boros Empire draws out an old card from the deck in the person of Faruk Ezon, a world class assassin from the Madigan/Cantelli team’s old CIA days. With movie premiers, gangbangers, serial rapist problems, and a deadly threat from their Sana’a, Yemen embassy shootout, Rick and Lo are right back where they belong, locked and loaded.

This series just keeps getting better.

Words are inadequate to describe the plot of this story. Rick, Lo and the crew clean up a lot of garbage, including some major heavy hitters. It seems they've offended a multitude of bad guys, all of whom send hitmen after them.

In addition to the action, there's teen jealousy, angst and drama. There's gangbangers, drug lords, pimps, child pornographers, traitors, movie stars, and wanna-be movie stars. They manage to close out some old accounts.

Mr. DeLeo understands the specific trash that needs taken out and makes it happen while his readers sit back and cheer.

Another great read by DeLeo. Spoiler alert.

This one starts with Jim and Ellen. The two of them are currently watching a drug deal go down. The dealers are dealing drugs at the high school they both attend.

Of course they were spotted. Two men approached them and tried to take them home. Jim was polite and respectful but wasn't getting in a car with people he didn't know. It was about to get ugly when Rick and Lo in disguise showed up. Of course it ended rather badly for the two men.

After the confrontation Rick called Bill Staley. He's their contact man in the police department. Bill showed with officer and arrested everyone.

So begins another fine read by DeLeo.

This one has Rick, Lo, Jim, Ellen, Temple, Stace, Trish, Meg, Steve, Bone, the rest of the crews from the security company, a woman named Stuart who has her own agenda, a billionaire named Boros, Muslims from Yemen working on revenge, a boat trip, a shootout on the boat, an ambush where two police officers are killed, a Rick using his sniper rifle, Casablanca night, another shootout, Temple and Jim working on love, a jealous Ellen who likes Jim and wants a relationship with him other than as a partner, the red carpet on premier night for the movie Temple and Jim starred in, Rick and Lo's CIA contacts, death, destruction and Rick Cantelli and Lois Madigan using their skills to come out on top and save the damned day.

    Five Stars.

Again a great read from Bernard Lee DeLeo,
Enjoyed reading the antics of PI Rick Cantelli and enverything that happens around him.
As if teanagers in love is not enough to try and keep a handle on he also need to sort out all kinds of threats on the side.
I just love all the humour brought in.

Don't know what happened to my original review but this is an incredible book. I'm a huge fan of Author DeLeo's work. He could make a phone book or dictionary interesting, given flesh and blood characters he is an absolute master and in my opinion defines the category Pulp Fiction. I firmly believe this is the best of all his Cantelli books and should be an award winning book if such prizes existed. If you haven't read the Cantelli series from the beginning, start with book 1, if you read them back to back you likely won't get any sleep for at least 4 days, they are that good.

I have found the perfect cure for my B. L. D. withdrawal! Just finished second read of book 4 with Rick and Lo. I would call it as good as my first time. I am a fast reader and forced myself to slow down and enjoy it more. It worked so will go get #5.

First late me say I love Bernard's books but I did not like this book. Too many characters in the start of the book I could less about! Did not finish the book.
