- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2018A Little Spark is the type of book that gives you the fuzzy feeling of butterflies in your tummy! Jillian is a bada$$ firefighter who can take care of herself. She's also got a huge vulnerable side that leaves her pushing a certain man away. Sam is a realtor and a huge sweetheart. He's been burned before but is still happily searching for his "one". After a drunken meeting, a wedding, and an alien invasion we are shown one of the sweetest men in the world.
I floved this story. I laughed, I cried, I yelled, I fell in love. A lot is going on in this book. Relationships, friendships, so many good characters! Jillian and Sam's story is one you will fall in love with and one you will be begging for just one more glimpse of them. The writing and the characters keep you hooked and the banter is just icing on the cake!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 5, 2018I have so much love for these characters. First off, I LOVED that Jillian wasn't your typical short girl with a 'normal' job. She's a spunky and doesn't take sh!t from anyone. The fact that she's a firefighter who put her life on the line numerous times is perfection. Sam (Sammy as I like to call him) is an amazing dude. Despite everything that Jilli throws at him, he's steadfast in his feelings for her. Also, the inclusions of Star Wars made my inner nerd smile. If you're looking for a hot, sweet, and sassy romance, check out this book. Amy K. McClung is an author you don't want to miss.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2018A Little Spark? These two make a lot of sparks right from the beginning. I was a bit confused about the enemies to lovers part in the blurb because seriously, Sam is the absolute sweetest guy. I don't think anyone could actually be enemies with him. They do have their differences, mostly coming from Jillian's insecurities and some misunderstandings, but this pair is so good together that you can't help but root for them. The author gives us plenty of feels - everything from laughter to tears to sharing in some heartbreak, but the witty banter quickly brightens things up before they get too heavy. This is my first read by Amy McClung, but it won't be my last. This engaging, fast-paced romance is one that I can easily recommend.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2018This contemporary romance got off to a pretty strong start, and there was a definite spark between the main characters that I looked forward to seeing further explored. There were lulls, however, at certain points in the story, so my attention had to be brought back to focus every now and again because, I confess, it did wander. As far as the main characters are concerned, Sam and Jill had some definite moments wherein I felt myself fully immersed in who they were and what their respective back stories were and where they were headed as a couple. At times, that spark flared, but just like with the story, there were times it nearly petered out. By the time I got to the second half of the book, things progressed far more quickly and the story became more interesting. There were certain supporting characters who I felt definitely stole the spotlight because I found myself wondering what their story was and I was more focused on them than on the main characters themselves. I liked more about A Little Spark than I disliked--and if there was a book about Stephan the neighbor I would read it--so it gets 3.5 stars. ♥
- Reviewed in the United States on March 31, 2018Sam Warner is ready for his brother Harrison to get married but the antics of the previous night leave him a little worse for wear. But at the wedding he meets a beautiful woman who peaks his interest but unfortunately he doesn’t get her number before she is gone.
Lieutenant Jillian Hartford is asked at the last moment to fill in as a bridesmaid at her friend Carrie’s wedding when Carrie’s sister is unable to make her flight. She is a firefighter and used to be underestimated but she has a huge heart and therefore fills in to help Carrie out but nothing prepares her for the attitude of Sam.
When Jillian ends up rescuing Sam out of a bad situation will the two work through their animosity and find their own happiness or will things spiral out of control and their own personal demons get the best of them?
This was another great book by the author!
I truly loved both of these characters and I was wondering how each of their backgrounds would influence a possible relationship.
I absolutely loved Sam when he took sleeping pills and I don’t know if the author wrote this from personal experience but it was so great! Sam had a bad relationship in the past and as we learn more it makes more sense on why he is guarded. I was mad at Anya for sure but at the same time it led him to Jillian eventually. Sam was such a hard worker, but I thought it was awesome when he realized the importance of other things as well.
Jillian was a great character and I loved how tough she was with her occupation as a firefighter. I also loved the other side of her which she demonstrated at the hospital when she brought Sam with her. But Jillian also had insecurities which we saw a few times which jeopardized her relationship with Sam.
Towards the end of the book I was freaking out with the events and I wondered what was going to happen. I knew Jillian would push Sam away and blame herself but I had faith in Sam!
The wedding made me laugh so hard!!
Looking forward to more from this author and hopefully more with any of these characters! - By Rebecca
- Reviewed in the United States on April 2, 2018Sam and Jillian keep meeting in the most random of places. Although they are both instantly attracted to one another, they just can’t seem to get along. Until Jillian saves Sam and they embark on a slow and tenuous relationship…
This book sounded like a fun read from the short blurb, but unfortunately I did not end up enjoying it. While the premise had promise, Sam and Jillian’s characters fell a little flat. From the beginning their relationship didn’t seem very authentic, and they had too many constant misunderstandings that resulted in the story failing to keep me engaged.
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
