The Shimmering Pool (The Crispin Sinclair Chronicles Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 8 ratings

**Rewritten as of 5/6/15**
Crispin Sinclair isn't your average teenage boy. He inherited precognitive dreams from his mother who died during childbirth. His other unique quality was inherited from his father; Crispin is a werewolf. Growing up as a supernatural being in a world that doesn't know they exist is difficult to say the least. Crispin's family is made up of supernaturals; witches, vampires, and werewolves. As he begins to obtain his werewolf abilities, his life will be thrown into turmoil placing everyone he loves in danger.

Amytha Roberts is an average sixteen-year-old girl surrounded by paranormal beings. She was adopted at age five but not by your traditional idea of parents; her mom's a werewolf and her dad's a vampire. Amytha's best friend is Crispin. Stories of Amytha's past begin to surface causing her family to investigate more into where she came from.

Crispin and Amytha take turns telling this story of being in a family you choose, being abnormal in an ordinary world, and the importance of friendship. Together they will go on adventures into a faraway place where they'll encounter new creatures and discover truths they never imagined.

This glowing review comes with a rare caveat-- while perfect as a young adult read, it may not be of interest to older readers. I'm over 50, and was frustrated with a lot of the teen/high school-type drama, but, I also recognize teens may find it fun as well as relate-able. In the spirit of the young adult age the story is written for, I'll say the story was fast paced, with lots of interesting reveals, and back info (necessary if you're not a reader of the Parker Harris series). I enjoyed the main plot, but would have appreciated less teen angst (but, again, young adults will be able to relate to the insecurities and drama). The writing was engaging, although I did note some grammar issues. An excellent YA read.

I received this ACR for and honest review and honestly, I really enjoyed the story! I love a good plot with a mishmash of supernatural characters, rather than just your typical vampire or werewolf story. I can't wait to read more about Amethya and see what she's capable of doing.

Vamps, Werewolves, Witches, a Fairy…. And that’s not all as far as supernatural beings in this fantastical novel by Amy McClung.
Crispin and Amytha have been best friends since they were kids. They have been the only friend to each other and have grown up more as family than as friends. They are in high school together and are being bullied by the same kid, Jet. Hormones are kicking in and strange things are happening. This is not your typical YA story though. I am an adult (over 40) and loved this book! I have also recommended it proudly to my 10 year old niece. This story had me gasping, the twists and turns are great. My favorite character is Fernando. I can’t wait to read more about him. I can’t wait to read more about any of the characters. Do you want to read an awesome story with many paranormal creatures? Want to know why Amytha’s parents are introduced as her sister and brother in law. Feel the need to ride on a dragon (I know I do!!).
There is great character development and conversations between everyone. The plot moves along at a great pace. Not once do you get bored. Great Job Ms. McClung! Now I am going to have to try to sit here patiently and wait for the next book in the series!!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review LOP

I asked to read this book when I realized that it was an extention of the Parker Harris Series. Which I didn;t like the writing style of but, I loved the concept and the characters. I find my self in the same boat with this book. The back and forth betweeen characters is not well executed. The way that Amtheyst switches back and forth between using mom and dad or Parker and Quinn doesn't make sense. In her dialouge she would call them mom and dad, but then in the monolouge she woudl turn around and say Parker and Quinn. Everything is disjointed, rushed, and forced. I really really wont to love this book because the story lines are great, but I felt like I was walking through quick sand trying to get this book finished.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com

Great YA book! This is a wonderful, imaginative, creative story with some extraordinary twists that I never saw coming - that's the sign of a really good book! It was great connecting with the Parker Harris group again through the children. Crispin and Amytha are awesome characters and I can't wait until the next book in this series is released!!
