Jersey Girl Book Reviews-top series of 2012 for the Pam of Babylon series!jerseygirlbookreviews.blogspot.com/2012/12/jersey-girl-book-reviews-top-10-books.html

From Kirkus

....riveting, a fast-paced, scenic style, one of the best aspects, a page-turner, rarely breaking from forward motion.characters sympathetic, round and believable; watching them grapple with difficult decisions creates an engaging, dynamic read. exciting, surprising story that leaves the reader hungry for the next book.

From The Chick Lit Club After Pam's husband Jack dies of a heart attack on the train, three women - Pam, her sister Marie and Sandra - are drawn together in a way they never thought would be possible...... Pam also has to deal with both Jack's and her mother's and her brother-in-law Bill's problems. This is a beautifully told story which had me gripped from the beginning. Although this book is the sequel to Pam of Babylon, it is written in such a way that if you haven't read the prequel you will easily pick up, follow and enjoy Don't You Forget About Me.8/10 rating

From the Author

Don't You Forget About Me took me by surprise. When I set out to continue Pam of Babylon, I didn't foresee the catastrophic events Pam would have to face.

The entire series, Pam of Babylon, is a dark, well written, compelling look into a twisted relationship in a contemporary setting. This is book #2, as much depends on knowing the characters and the story, it probably does not stand well on it's own as a solo read, but as part of the series it absolutely shines as the next segment of the ongoing saga of the life of Pam of Babylon.

    When I picked up book #1, it was some pretty rugged subject matter. Though a novel, it is no light fiction. The author has done a masterful and truly insightful job of developing her characters, exploring a very complex relationship matrix involving many main characters and how they influence and interact around the primary character of the book who is dead from the beginning of the story. Through all follows, you learn much of Jack, while watching the depth charges of his behaviors detonate deeper and deeper in the lives of his wife, children, mother, brother and his family, mistress, various lovers and those whom he used and abused when he was alive. It is one of the most remarkable series of books that I have read in my life, but it is not always comfortable, in fact frequently not, which is where the brilliance of this author really shines - she makes it possible to take this painful journey anyway, and I have learned a lot through reading her insightful narrative and observing her penetrating development of characters and their amazing interactions. I cannot recommend this series highly enough. But start with book #1. {Smile}

This was a great story and I loved the characters, even the ones I don't like fill their roles perfectly. These women have been put through so much because of one man and his inability to keep it in his pants. I thought after book one, with its shocking revelations, I had heard it all. I was wrong, even more deprivation in this one. Bill, you would think would be on the straight and narrow after being in jail. He was not. Even his wife and mother seemed to be losing their minds. I hated it about Tom and Andy, they seemed perfect for Pam and Sandra. But, I think poor Marie is about to regret her booty call. I can't wait to read the next book.

I normally don't read drama, however, I thought the premise of this book was interesting. This is the first book I have read by this author. The style of writing was easy to understand, and the plot flowed for the most part. The author did jump from the opinion of one character to the next, which has been successfully done by several authors in the past. However, I found her focusing on one character and then bringing in the thoughts of another to be disconcerting at first. Also, she seems to forget about some of the characters for a while, such as Pam's mother-in-law, and then later she brings her back into the fold of everything. Also, some small details do not make sense. Such as when Sandra smell b.o. in her house, even had the cops check it out. It later comes out that it was the mentally unbalanced brother of her dead lover, however, when she smelled the b.o. it clearly reads that he was watching her house from a bagel shop not far away and had not entered her house. It's a small inconsistency, but one that can be easily overlooked if you don't think about it. Overall, I enjoyed this book and found it to be a nice distraction from everyday life when I had a chance to read.

As I re-read my favorite Soap Opera in book form, I have a whole new appreciation for the story.

It almost feels like reading a whole new story getting to know past players in Jack's games. In some ways it almost seems simpler but it really isn't.

In this second installment, Pam is still unraveling the web of lies that was her life with Jack while his death is still fresh.

There is plenty of mystery, intrigue and betrayal to be found in Babylon and beyond as we get to know the basic characters in the story.

Some shocking truths are told in this book that set the groundwork for future books.

I read this book in a weekend which hasn't happened in a long time! The end really irritated me until I found out that it was actually the 2nd book in a series. It was a free Kindle book and realizing this has taught me to investigate this when downloading books in the future - not that I won't continue to take advantage of the free books but I like to know if there is more to the story. I will download the others in this series shortly.

I don't know how accurate my review can be now that I understand something came before this book. I enjoyed it tremendously until the very last paragraph. Peeking into the lives of three women who were all involved with the same man and changing perspectives kept my mind moving forward. I thought looking at the same experience through different eyes in the same book helped to see a more dynamic story.

The story lines were heavy and some of it was a touch unbelievable - especially that women could be friends with one another after this guy wreaked havoc on their lives - but it was just real enough to believe. People are weird and what they do in the face of tragedy is even more real sometimes.

Loved this, in fact, I am delighted to have discovered the whole series. I can look forward to a splendid summer of reading. This author again presents a streamlined literary work with more intriguing characters and captivating plot. The writer really knows how to grab and hold the attention. Like Chekov's gun, nothing is added, which does not form an essential part of the plot and storyline.
There is so much here, love, drama, intrigue and passion. I can't wait to go onto the next in the Pam of Babylon series.

4.0 out of 5 stars Don't You Forget About Me
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 22, 2012
This is the follow on to Pam of Babylon although it can be read as a standalone, because the key points of Pam of Babylon are summarised in the first couple of chapters, although for me I am glad I read it first, as it really helped me to get quickly enmeshed in the characters and the extraordinary relationship triangle of Pam, Sandra and Marie. It is a very gripping read and you very quickly get hooked in the saga, wanting to know what is going to happen next. The revelations that started in Pam of Babylon continue with even more shocks revealed in Don't You Forget About Me. At first glance it appears to be a lightweight read, but that is definitely not the case, the issues raised are shocking indeed and you are reading it thinking "how on earth would I cope if that was me". It can seem a bit farfetched at times, but in a very readable way, kind of like the American soaps like Dallas and Dynasty - over the top but addictive. A very enjoyable book, especially if you like family sagas with lots of dark hidden secrets and a twisty turny plot.

There are a few editing errors, missing words on the whole, but still a very readable, gripping read.
