- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2015And the saga continues! No spoilers here, but suffice it to say that (as usual), relationships end, new ones begin, major changes in the characters' lives, and the suspense keeps building. I always try to read Suzanne's books slow because I don't want them to end, but it's virtually impossible as you have to keep reading to see what happens next! I know a lot of us are fans of the "Pam" series, but if you haven't checked out her other books be sure to do so. I'm anxiously awaiting another "Savant" and "Burn District" book!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2015Okay, so I've read another damned "Pam of Babylon" book, number 11 in the series! Number 10 was supposed to be the last book, and I was furious because the reader was left up in the air with a throbbing headache. So many frigging characters and convoluted plot lines, some of which make no sense at all and why they were included beats the hell out of me. It's a cheapie e-reader series, the most expensive book being $2.99 - most were free or 99 cents or less, a good thing, since 99.9% of them are poorly written and horribly edited. Why I've even bothered with the series is highly questionable, since each book gives me a miserable headache and thoroughly pizzes me off.
I really suspect the same person doesn't write all the books, which explains the convoluted story lines and the fact that some parts are well written, BUT, turn the page and it's a disaster. The whole story seemingly revolves around this supposedly wonderful man who suddenly dropped dead of a heart attack, and all the women AND men he bedded. 'Pam' was his wife and 'Babylon' is this fancy, schmancy beach town in New York. (Think the Hamptoms.) Each installment turns up another kid he fathered and they range in age from the 20's to elementary school age, and NOW, to add another cursed storyline to this hell, it appears that good old Pam, who is in her 50's, is NOT the biological daughter of the man she thought was her father. Her mother, who is now in her 80's (???), apparently got pregnant back in Detroit by a man who dumped her - she was sent off to New York to live with a cousin, met another man, and married HIM. Now, good old Mom has found her former lover on FACEBOOK!
Supposedly, Nelda, the good old 80+ year old mom was just a teen when she had Pam, which 'should' make her around 72, but if you do the math, she could NOT have been that young since Pam is perhaps 55 and Mom is 80+ according to the author!
Oh, and Jack, the dirty dog of a husband to Pam, who screwed anything with legs, contracted HIV and spread that around to his lovers and children, including long suffering Pam, who incidentally, met a new man the very day her present husband left her to go back to his ex-wife. New guy is a NY senator AND a presidential candidate, who reminds Pam of the love of her life, the scoundrel, Jack.
AARRRGGGHHH! I'm just waiting for a pregnant animal to appear with another illegitmate offspring of Jack's! The entire series is sometimes laugh out loud funny and ridiculous and I can't even believe I got hooked on the mess! Since I'm nearing the end of book 11 and a crapload of new characters have popped up, I highly doubt 11 is the end of the drama. Bloody hell!
I reviewed this miserable but addictive series on Amazon and it was NOT complimentary. (Did that after the supposed finale of book 10, and the damned series was finally fading away into unpleasant memories.) Almost fainted when I saw there was book 11! Furious at myself for purchasing 11! Caught up again in the nonsense - even had to take an extra strength aspirin last night because my head was aching and spinning. This is just self abuse!!
I want to end the whole miserable mess of "Pam of Babylon!" Every one of these characters needs to go out to sea together on a yacht cruise and the damned yacht has to sink! NO SURVIVORS! ***Snoooort***
Sooo, anyone here who wants to be driven nuts, end up with a headache from hell, and be annoyed beyond belief, check out the series on amazon.com - "Pam of Babylon" by Suzanne Jenkins. Most books are free or 99 cents. You have been warned!
- Reviewed in the United States on January 24, 2016The series is evolving, this is book 11, and new characters are becoming more prominent as the original characters age and begin to take different, somewhat less complex roles while still being integral to the story. This is a rare transition and is being handled very well. Can't wait for more books.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 28, 2021I love Suzanne Jenkins books, especially this Pam of Babylon series.
Pam is in for a rude awakening when she finds her new husband with his ex wife. Bernice and Nelda spend the summer in Florida with Miranda and Mark with an unexpected ending just before they head back home. Cara and Lisa have a heart to heart talk about their future together.
Suzanne describes her characters in wonderful detail.
Try this series. You will love it!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2015Why do I keep reading these? ! All of the characters are horrible people-every single one of them with the possible exception of Jenna, who I'm sure will do something horrible in the next book. All of them sleep around and constantly betray each other in awful unforgivable ways, but the next week they all meet up at the beach house and hang out make snide remarks at each other while gazing lustfully at each others partners. And Pam is the worst one of all-the vainest, most hateful person in the crowd. She actually would rather and old man die on her fabulous veranda than have the neighbors see an ambulance come to her house. But I will keep reading each installment-can't look away from the train wreck that is Pam's life.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 1, 2015What a GREAT Continuation of the Pam of Babylon Series!! Now I can't wait for book 12! I say the same thing in every review of this series and I wish there was another way I could write a review to outdo the last, but I'm not as good a writer as Suzanne. I tried to read slowly so the fun would continue longer, but I had to stay awake last night to get to the final page. What a fantastatic ending as usual! Suzanne is the Queen of the Wow endings. She never disappoints. Thank you Suzanne for sharing your wonderful talent with us!! Now, when is Pam 12 coming out, lol! No pressure........ But I can't wait!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2016OMG! So Ryan, who also slept with Jack Smith (who slept with anything with a pulse), is now Sandra’s (“Tramp of Babylon”) new beau, who is now interested in Lisa, Jack’s daughter, who has decided she is no longer a lesbian? Yuck!
John decides his ex Cassandra is a better catch than his current wife, Pam? He is also willing to destroy his relationship with his daughter for the woman who he allowed to abuse her throughout her life. Wow, you can’t call this guy a freakin’ rocket scientist.
Did Nelda keep a “daddy” secret from Pam? At least it would make Nelda interesting for a change. And Bernice needs to swear off men completely. Thank goodness Violet & Paul are happy…at least for now.
And Charlie, the presidential candidate, what was his real relationship with Jack Smith as well as his motivation for dating Pam, Jack’s widow?
Something and/or someone else is rotten Babylon. Whew! I need a scorecard to keep up.
