Review

I love Sherrill Cannon's style. She is an absolute master of rhyming... Mice & Spiders & Webs... Oh My! features a wonderful rhyming tale with an important underlying message about "being a good listener". As an added bonus, the book also features bright and kid-friendly illustrations with cameo appearances of characters and covers from previous books. I highly recommend this (and other books by Sherrill S. Cannon) for children ages 4 to 8 years. - MotherDaughterBookReviews

Rosemary said that there will be mice and spiders with webs.... Sherrill S. Cannon's children's educational book, is a fun and easy to understand introduction to computers, and it works marvelously...verse is breezy and smooth, with rhymes that are clever and witty, and Kalpart's illustrations are bright and cheerful. While the nature and animal geek in me was somewhat disappointed that [it] didn't feature a tarantula and mice for classroom pets, the techie in me was thrilled with this literate and rhymed primer to computing...highly recommended - Jack Magnus, Readers Favorite 5 Stars

7th in a series of successful educational books for children,
Mice & Spiders & Webs...Oh My! is a rhyming story about learning to be a good listener. Rosemary is a school child who tells her mother she is afraid to go to school, only to discover...a new surprise, computers that speak. The special notes page also repeats special computer terms used and asks the reader, Are you a good listener?...a winner for children age 6 and up, with plenty of humor and action to keep attention riveted. - Midwest Book Review

I am a mother of four and a grandmother of ten, and I am also a Multi-Award-Winning Best-Selling Author! My books have received 107 National and International awards in 2011-2023.. My newest children's book, "My Fingerpaint Masterpiece Coloring Book" has just been released and is a coloring book version of my award-winning "My Fingerpaint Masterpiece". It uses the theme of the infamous 'Emperor's New Clothes' to emphasize the theme of art is in the eye of the beholder! My previous release is the still available "My Little Angel Coloring Book", dedicated to our son KC who passed in 2022, and who is now our special angel. It is a great introduction to pre-schoolers, dealing with issues such as getting ready for school, crossing in cross-walks, being kind to friends, learning lessons, fastening seatbelts, stranger danger, and more - all of which accompanied by illustrations for the child to color. It follows "The Golden Rule Coloring Book", already an award-winner, which is a coloring book version of the best-selling The Golden Rule. The fourth coloring book version is the "Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book" which is a coloring book version of my still available best-selling "Peter and the Whimper-Whineys" and has already received several awards including First Place in the FAPA Awards, Gold in Book Excellence Awards and an H.M.in the Royal Dragonfly and Purple Dragonfly Awards for Children's Activity Book. "David's ADHD", is a recipient of 13 Awards including a Gold medal in the Book Excellence Awards, 1st place in Purple Dragonfly plus an HM, Gold Medal in FAPA Awards,1st Place the Purple Dragonfly Awards plus H.M.in a 2nd category, 2 Silver medals from Feathered Quill, Winner of Barefoot Librarian Award plus Silver medal in Reviewer's Choice, Bronze Medal in eLit Awards, and a Pinnacle Achievement Award. What an amazing time!!! My website is www.sherrillcannon.com

I have been writing poetry since before I could write! (My mother wrote down the poetry I wrote as a four-year-old.) I have written ten published rhymed children's stories, two poetry books, and three coloring books, as well as seven published rhymed musical plays for elementary school children, which have been performed internationally in over 20 countries. I love to write. My friends and family ask me if I think in rhyme and meter, and I have to admit that sometimes this is true!

Most of my books try to teach something, like good manners and caring for others. "Santa's Birthday Gift" is an attempt to include Santa in the meaning of Christmas. (After I read a story of the nativity to my young granddaughter, she looked at me and asked "But where's Santa?") The story is best for ages 3-9, to be read to children who still believe in Santa!

"Peter and the Whimper-Whineys" is designed to help parents cope with whining and complaining children. Peter is a small rabbit who does nothing but whine. His mother warns him that if he keeps on whining and crying, he'll have to go live with the Whimper-Whineys. His nocturnal adventures convince him his mother was right! If only he can get back home... A review editor for this story wrote: "I cannot imagine any parent or guardian not wanting to read this book to their child!...Parents everywhere applaud you!"

"Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book" as well as "The Golden Rule Coloring Book" and "My Little Angel Coloring Book", are replicas of the above books, with the illustrations traced so they are colorable.

"The Magic Word" is a story of a little girl who has to learn to say Please! It stresses the importance of good manners and thinking of others.

"Gimme-Jimmy", is a story about how a bully learns to share, and seems to have become popular quickly! Jimmy's New Polite Rule stresses thinking of others and being polite.

"Manner-Man" is about a Superhero who helps children cope with bullies, and look within themselves for their own inner superhero. It incorporates many of the characters in m previous books, as well as their character traits. Consideration for others is a constant theme!

"My Fingerpaint Masterpiece" deals with perspective, perception and self-esteem as a child paints artwork in class, and later discovers it as part of the town's Art Contest

"Mice & Spiders & Webs...Oh My!" is story that illustrates the importance of being a good listener. It also is a cute introduction to basic computer terms.

"The Golden Rule" shows children how to be kind, and to imagine how wonderful it would be if everyone followed the Golden Rule: Treat others the way you'd like to be treated.

"My Little Angel" is about the day in the life of a small child who has a little guardian angel named Angela sitting on her shoulder and guiding her through her day. With an angel on your shoulder, you are never alone!

"A Penny for Your Thoughts" is not a children's book, but it is a poetry book of feelings - of love and friendship and all various associated emotions.

"A Dime is a Sign" is a companion volume of poetry to A Penny for Your Thoughts, with similar content and layout - all about feelings into words!

"David's ADHD" is designed to help children with ADHD learn to manage their behavior issues and become accepted in the classroom...and make friends!

"Peter and the Whimper-Whineys Coloring Book", "The Golden Rule Coloring Book", "My Little Angel Coloring Book" and the new "My Fingerpaint Masterpiece Coloring Book" are all coloring book versions of the original books above, but with the illustrations traced so that youngsters (and oldsters) can color them creatively.

Here's a little bit of my background: A real-live Eloise, I grew up in the Willard Hotel in Washington DC (my Dad was the manager), was married and lived in Northern Virginia for twenty years where my husband and I raised our four children. We later moved to Bucks County (Philadelphia PA suburbs) where we lived for 14 years before moving to the Binghamton NY area for 18 years, and in 2013 finally moved back to Bucks County PA. We will celebrated our 62nd wedding anniversary in June! We are now retired, and are snowbirds, traveling in our RV from Florida to Pennsylvania and back. I have had a varied career: I was a teacher and coach for ten years in the Washington DC area, and then became a "stay-at-home-Mom" who in my spare-time was a professional newspaper sports photographer and columnist for several years when our boys were playing competitive soccer. When our girls became interested in theater, I became a Dinner Theatre Company Stage Manager (as well as lighting and sound technician) and also was an Assistant Talent Manager for Cathy Parker Talent when our youngest daughter was doing commercials and professional modeling in NYC. When we relocated to the Binghamton NY area, I became the Business Administrator for a software development company handling payroll and contracts. Now I have time to write, when I'm not marketing (which is the other half of writing.) I spent many years collaborating with my daughter on rhymed musical plays for her elementary school, and now seven of our plays, "Have You Seen My Little Lamb", "The King's Spell","When You Wish Upon a Star...fish", "The Wonderful World of Weather", "ABC December" , "The Alphabet Trip" and "We Have Character" are available at Lazy Bee Scripts - www.lazybeescripts.co.uk. The plays have already had many performances in over 20 countries including the United States and the United Kingdom, as well as Australia, Austria, Botswana, Cambodia, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Philippines, Poland, Singapore, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates. I am trying to "make a difference".

Getting children to listen not only to their parents, but also their teachers, is key. In Sherrill S. Cannon's latest release, "Mice and Spiders and Webs...Oh My!", she weaves a beautifully rhyming story that will delight young readers. Children will also learn the importance of good listening skills and the basics of computer technology. Early readers and adults alike will enjoy the charming verse Cannon uses to spin her tale. The colorful and catchy illustrations help make the book even more enjoyable. Though many youngsters are afraid of critters such as mice or eight-legged spiders, this book will teach kids to embrace the creatures' technological counterparts, computers and their accessories, wholeheartedly!

Sherrill Cannon delivers another whimsical rhyming tale with an important underlying lesson about learning to be a good listener in the delightful Mice & Spiders & Webs … Oh My! I love being surprised when reading a story, and this newest tale by one of our favorite picture book authors certainly delivers!

In Mice & Spiders & Webs … Oh My!, the reader is introduced to Rosemary who comes home from school distressed after her teacher tells the students that a mouse and a spider are soon coming to the class. Or at least, that’s what Rosemary HEARD the teacher say. In order to put her daughter’s mind at ease, Rosemary’s mother takes her to see the teacher who explains exactly what was said. Turns out that Rosemary had not listened very carefully to her teacher; but, you’ll have to read the story to discover what the teacher actually said (definitely worth a chuckle!)

I love Sherrill Cannon’s style. She is an absolute master of rhyming (no, seriously, I don’t know how she does it!). Each story features a relatable main character who is always a young girl or boy the same age as the target audience. There is always an important message underlying the story (in this case, about being a good listener) and the illustrations are so kid-friendly. In true Cannon style, the illustrations feature characters from previous books as well as the covers from her other books in the background. I love this added element of “hide-and-seek”. It’s value-added for true Sherrill Cannon fans.

My Bottom Line: Mice & Spiders & Webs… Oh My! features a wonderful rhyming tale with an important underlying message about “being a good listener”. As an added bonus, the book also features bright and kid-friendly illustrations with cameo appearances of characters and covers from previous books. I highly recommend this (and other books by Sherrill S. Cannon) for children ages 4 to 8 years.

“Mice, Spiders & Webs... Oh My!” is a delightful children's book written by Author, Sherrill S. Cannon. My daycare children love all of Sherrill's children's books and greatly look forward to more and more of them. They cannot get enough of her rhyming, fun and meaningful stories. Each book has an individual lesson to be learned and this one does not disappoint.

This unique and fun story tells of a little girl who could use better listening skills. A skill that all children and adults could use a little more of. It gets the children thinking about their own listening skills and assumptions in life. It is written in a unique way that gets children thinking about their fears of mice and spiders, only to find out that the twist is that it actually means something totally different! Without ruining the ending of the book, it is really neat how Sherrill tied so many ideas into one single little book. The kids shrieked and recalled how they had seen a spider or that they have had a mouse in their house. We all laughed and had so much fun reading this well written and well plotted out story. It is very unique and I have never seen a story like this one before. When the kids finally found out what the real meaning behind the mice and spiders, they were in awe. It took a second for it to sink in and I could see the wheels turning while the light bulbs were going off. Then, they exclaimed “Yes, I get it!! Wow, that is neat!”

My daycare children really connected with this lovely story and also were delighted by colorful and fun illustrations created by Kalpart. Thank you Sherrill for yet another amazing and wonderful book!!

Sherrill S. Cannon’s newest edition to her marvelous children’s books, Mice & Spiders & Webs… Oh My, probably rates among the best children’s books I have read to date.

I felt Rosie’s pain and fear at the prospect of facing her fears of Mice, Spiders, and yes Spider Webs. I knew her bravery when with the help of her mother was willing to face her fears and attempt to work through them. And I laughed at the outcome, down to the ‘female’s only.'

Never have I read a little book that charmed me so, with a message so subtly written that shows how one’s fears can be baseless.
Ms. Cannon has definitely another hit on her hands and one that I wouldn't be surprised if it stole the hearts of each and every child who read it.
It is more than a teaching tool, more than a fascinating story, and much more than the cleverly done rhyming verse that is so popular for the young ones. It is a masterpiece, fit to join the ranks of any of the great children’s stories that have enchanted and delighted generations of young ones through the years.

If this reader whose childhood is so far behind them can find the joy and beauty in this little story, my bet is any child will also find all that and more.

The Illustrations by Kalpart, completely swept me away with the brilliant colors and how they followed the story so completely.
So highly do I consider this book that I fully intend to have a copy of my own. Not just for the little ones, but for those times I wish to laugh and remember those fears and pleasures from my childhood.
