    I really enjoyed this novel by Altonya Washington. This is my first time reading her work and I am looking forward to reading more of her books (especially the Ramsey saga which has excellent reviews on Amazon).The story is rich and the characters especially Alex are very dynamic and complex which makes them very realistic. Overall, it is an interesting and exciting book that I will be reading again. This book definitely inspires discussion about how much the past matters. 5 stars!

    I enjoyed Alex and Topaz, theirs was a rough road traveled. The story was very well written, giving us a little bit of everything. Drama, suspense and romance (of the cleaner variety), it was all messed together to give a very entertaining read. My only two complaints would be - the very beautiful, waist length long haired, drop dead gorgeous (but is clueless about it and her effect on men) leading lady. Sometimes being absolutely perfect and hearing about it every other sentence, just isn't necessary. Second would be the ending. Kinda quick, kinda too tidy after all the drama. Other than that it was pretty good and I'm glad I purchased it.

    Alex started off as in interesting character, but devolved into a wishy-washy whiner who, in his self-pitying haze, jerked around poor, saintly Topaz. She was far too nice, to the point where she got annoying, too. There were a lot of interesting dynamics in this novel that kept the whole thing from getting bogged down in Alex's mess. Not a great book, but not awful, either.
