- Reviewed in the United States on January 22, 2015AN AWESOME READ!!! This book had my emotions on a high like that ride over the Stratosphere Casio in Las Vegas. I don't know where she gets here storylines, but a lot of writers can learn from it. The plot was FANTASTIC, the character interaction was AMAZING and the flow was PHENOMENAL. To say things like what goes on in the family stays in the family is an understatement. You will not be disappointed with this read. Just make sure you have tissue, a bottle of wine and someone else reading it at the same time to discuss it. It is that good. HIGHLY RECOMMEND, 5 STARS.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2012This book was very different from anything Altonya has ever written. At first, I wasn't going to purchase it, but because it was written by Ms. Washington and I have all of her books I decided to buy it. I am so glad that I did, because she made me aware of the fact that you must always know who your family members are and what they look like. I finished the book within 2 days and I have to say it was a very good book. You had your usual family drama as well as the romance that we're used to from Altonya. My hat off to you Altonya because it was a very deep subject as well as a very good book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 12, 2012The writing is good but the subject matter is quite disturbing. But if you're interested--the story has domestic violence, secrets, lies, deceit, family death and an abundance of incest and inbreeding across generations! Ugh!
The story feels like it should have taken place a very long time ago. In the past, people had fewer choices and less freedom so an older timeline may have made this story less...repulsive. I just can't imagine people behaving this way in 2012. I finally finished the book but was left feeling disappointed and sad for these characters. MHO.
Happy Reading!
- Reviewed in the United States on October 6, 2015I enjoyed this book and I could not put it down. With that said, I'm genuinely disgusted by the amount of incest - I'm left to wonder why the author could not break up some of the incest. At least that between brother and sister and uncle and niece. Like I said this was a great read just a disturbing topic.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2015The family feud of a lifetime takes place in Taboo Tree. When the Gwaltney and Augustine clans hold their ground, nothing can change their views. That is, until lives are altered by a sudden twist.
Altonya Washington took the time to pen such a novel riddled with secrets, various levels of betrayal and many other elements that make this a worthwhile read. The story line is crisp, characters fully developed and flow is effortless. You won't want to put it down. A highly recommended read!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2013I wasn't impress with this to much it wasn't what I thought it should of been the author might have had a good concept but it was written in the wrong time era she should written for a long ago era when you usually hear stories like this it is usually black and whites mixing together not black on black. It was no suprises nor it was no suspense like everyone claim it was.Once I got all the way in the storie it became predictable as usual. I knew who everyone was gone it get with before it even happen. disappointment wasn't worth the money I paid for.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 17, 2012As with all of Altonya's books, this book was an excellent read! What a gifted writer. This book is a must read. It is different from her other books, but is was really good. Who would think that you would meet and fall in love with a person that was so closely bonded to you. All I can say is Altonya keep writing!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 11, 2012This story is sooo different from the previous books Ms. Washington has written in the past. I thought the book was well written and you could feel the characters as you are reading. The story touch on soooooo many issues that we have heard about or some of us may have experienced. I will say it got confusing as more characters were introduced in the story. As always, Ms. Washington did not disappoint in the romance sections of this book. I will type this last part and hope you enjoy reading this book..."Know Your Family _".
