A Rogue's Scandalous Wish: A Second Chance Redeemable Rogue and Wallflower Regency Romance (The Honorable Rogues® Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.2 out of 5 stars 1,366 ratings

A marriage offered out of obligation... an acceptance compelled by desperation.

At the urging of her dying brother, Philomena Pomfrett reluctantly agrees to attend a London Season. If she fails to acquire a husband, her future is perilous. Betrayed once by Bradford, Viscount Kingsley, as well as scarred from a horrific fire, Philomena entertains no notions of a love-match. Hers will be a marriage of convenience.
If she can find man who will have her.

When the woman he loves dies, Bradford leaves England and its painful memories behind. After a three-year absence, he returns home but doesn't recognize his first love when he stumbles upon her hiding in a shadowy arbor during a ball. Something about the mysterious woman enthralls him, and he steals a moonlit kiss. Caught in the act by Philomena's brother, Bradford is issued an ultimatum—a duel or marry her.

Bradford refuses to duel with a gravely-ill man and offers marriage. But Philomena rejects his half-hearted proposal, convinced he'd grow to despise her when he sees her disfiguring scars. Then her brother collapses, and frantic to provide the medical care he needs, she's faced with marrying a man who deserted her once already.

      From the Author

      Dearest Reader!

From the instant I introduced Bradford in A KISS FOR A ROGUE, I realized that one day he'd get his own love story.

Readers adored him and kept asking me about him.

It was time to add another book to The Honorable Rogues series, and naturally, Bradford was my first choice for a hero.

Philomena's character was tricky for me. I lost three family members in two separate house fires within ten months, and with a brother and brother-in-law who are fire chiefs (and a sister who is a fire captain) the whole issue of a heroine scarred by fire became very personal.

I hope you enjoy the telling of their story!

      xoxo
      Collette

I enjoyed this book. It was a quick, Sunday afternoon read with a steady plot and likeable characters. I was afraid there was going to be a cliffhanger at the end. Thankfully, there wasn't.

Philomena and her brother, Giles, are in London for the season. Philomena needs to marry before Giles dies. He is gravely ill with scarlet fever and time is of the essence.

This isn't going to be such an easy task, though. Philomena is a burn victim and even though it does not affect her face, she is scarred beneath her clothing. It's left her with a self-esteem problem, making her avoid perspective suitors from the ton. It's okay. They were toads anyway.

At a party, she and Giles decide to go get some air. Giles is sidetracked and Philomena goes outside by herself. She runs into a man who thinks he knows her and, as Bradford Knightely is kissing her, Giles discovers them and wants either satisfaction or marriage.

Bradford knew then that he'd just kissed his long lost love and without a lot of debate, tells Giles he will marry Philomena. Sounds simple enough, right? It isn't. It never is.

The conflict wasn't overbearing in the story, even though it could have been a much longer novel had it been. As mentioned above, I was worried there was going to be a cliffhanger. I guess that could mean the ending was a bit abrupt. I didn't think it was at all. Everything was paced just right.

This was a great way to spend an afternoon.

Philomena Pomfrett has had a tragic few years. Her parents died in the fire that scarred her body and heart badly, her first love left her after the fire, and her brother is now suffering from a heart ailment that will take him within months. Philomena and her brother only have enough money for one London season, and her brother is determined to see her safe and settled before he passes.

Bradford, Viscount Kingsley, left London seven years ago after he was told his first love and his best friend died in a fire. Returning to England after this long absence, he is thrust into the spotlight that a rich titled bachelor inevitably attracts. While attending a ball, he glimpses a familiar figure across the room. The sweet blonde drew him, even though he'd avoided light haired women for years as they reminded him of his lost love.

Bradford sneaks out of the ball and meets this mysterious blonde in the garden. They both unknowingly make a wish on the same shooting star, and Bradford steals a kiss that is returned with interest. Her brother finds them there in a compromising position (what ISN'T compromising in Regency England?) and demands Bradford duel or marry. Bradford is happy to make the honorable offer, but Philomena is afraid to trust him and leave herself open to abandonment again.

The book is #3 in a series, but is read easily as a stand alone book. I haven't read the previous two and had no trouble, there weren't numerous references to other couples in the series.

This one kept me entertained and happy. It was short and sweet, and even though we didn't spend much time with them, the characters were lovable. I did enjoy the relationship between Philomena and her brother, and think that the book could have been expanded easily to include more of their relationship. I'm giving it three stars because it was an enjoyable read without any editing issues, but probably won't read it again. I would definitely recommend it for someone with a spare hour or two to spend!

I swear Collette Cameron nearly gave me a fit of the vapours with HER SCANDALOUS WISH! Philomena Pomfrett must marry as quickly as possible; her brother Giles has a fragile heart which could give out any day, and they are almost out of funds. Things look grim as Philomena was severely burned in a fire years before, where her parents died. The love of her life, Bradford, now Viscount Kingsley, vanished; she never heard from him, and Philomena’s heart was shattered. And so, trying to choose the less repulsive of her present suitors, who should be attending the Wimpleton’s ball, but Bradford.

This novella is grandiose! The story is extremely complex and fabulously compelling, there are plot twists every few pages, nothing happened the way I expected; at some places, I thought my heart would break. And what about the sumptuous, luminous, exquisite prose! Ms. Cameron is a wordsmith beyond compare! Every word is perfectly chosen, everything absolutely in context, the dialogues are glorious, there are a few quite humorous touches! Sublime!

The emotion in this novella is fully pledged to the plight of the lack of medical knowledge in this era as well as a mean jackass that preferred to kill or hurt people rather than to love and forgive. I loved the brother's intention to take care of his sister and ensure that she would be taken care of after his death - what a beautiful sentiment for a brother to have knowing that he would die soon. The love that Bradford and Philomena was exquisite too. Great novella - beautifully written - great characters.
