About the author

I grew up in Albuquerque, NM, at the foot of the Sandia Mountains in a time when kids were expected to play outside. I had a fertile imagination, a couple of friends who were equally creative, and a great yard for playing and dreaming. I still have those friends, and I still see The Crest in my dreams.
These days I make my home in East Texas with my husband, my dogs, and a pair of cockatiels.

- Reviewed in the United States on November 24, 2017I really enjoyed reading this book. I felt that I had to give it a 5 star rating because it kept me turning the pages and I had a hard time putting it down. I liked the slower paced staging of the characters and story. It gave me a chance to get to know the main character, Abby. I also liked the way the author described so many scenes and places in such vivid detail. I honestly felt like I was there, like I could see or feel exactly what she was experiencing. The book was definitely full of one exciting event after the next. Sometimes I felt that it border lined being a little too eventful, almost to the point of feeling a bit exhausted. Overall I grew fond of the characters and found myself wanting to read more. I was sad to end the book and am looking forward to the next book in the series, eager to find out what becomes of Abby and Bruce.
- Reviewed in the United States on January 8, 2019I get the reason for Abby's paranoia but the behavior portrayed went pass paranoia.. The events that happened to her to cause the paranoia for self protection was repeated throughout becoming irritating at various points of the book... Then to top it off - the end said to find out the rest of Abby's story you need to read the next series,, Dreadful...
- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2019This is the second book in this series and it is a continuation of the story about a young woman that is running away from the cartel
- Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2017I was delighted with this book! Susan Byrde made me feel such compassion for Abby, and I found myself thinking about Abby as I was falling asleep at night. To me, it's important to connect with characters that way. Abby's Road explained so much about Abby's personality that I had questioned in the first book, Bruce's Fall, and made me want to be a champion for her. I truly hope that Abby and Bruce find happiness and a peaceful life in the conclusion to this trilogy! Great job, Susan Byrde!
- Reviewed in the United States on November 16, 2017I loved this book and could not put it down. It is a tender love story full of suspense. Journeying down Abby's road helped explain Abby's emotions and fears and her reluctance to trust. All the characters become endearing and I can't wait for the final book of the trilogy.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 6, 2018WARNING! This book does not have an ending. It is actually Part II of who knows how many parts. I didn't even know there was a Part I until I started doing some research after the disappointing Abby's Road. Very disappointing to get to the end to find out that the plot did not have a conclusion. Part III won't be out until Spring. I feel like I was scammed and lost the money I paid for this book. I will NOT be ordering Part III. Who knows if Part III won't be continued to Part IV.
I do not mind book series. In fact, I enjoy them. But I do think each book should have a conclusion. Not "To see what happens to Abby, you will have to buy ANOTHER book." That stinks.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 18, 2017This book was given to me in exchange for a review.
On the positive side, once I got to it, the action of the book moved very quickly and was quite absorbing. I was rooting for her to get out of the situation that made her run, so she could have real relationships--children, even. I loved the places she went in Texas. I've been to all of them; in fact, I spent a few years in the Amarillo area and a few years near Tyler. I loved all the people who helped her, and I hated those who were after her and those who probably were colluding with the criminals.
While I very much wanted to give it a really high score, the book had some flaws that I could not overlook. First of all, it was a slow, slow start. If I hadn't agreed to review it, I probably would have set it aside. The first 20% or so was an autobiography of the protagonist, and even though it was necessary information that applied directly to the rest of the book, I felt like I was slogging through it. The mystery about Abby's father was easily overlooked in the autobiography section, which covered so much territory in so little time, and when I ran into him again, I couldn't remember it was her father. I kept saying to myself, "Who is Roger?" until I finally worked it out. I don't know if I was reading the final published version, but the one I read had a lot of typos and missing or doubled words.
My final word: I enjoyed the action, disliked the long introduction, and was quite disappointed when the book stopped. Fair warning: this is the second book of a trilogy. So it stops mid-action.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 17, 2017A great read! Now we know more about "Abby's side of the story." I can't wait for the third book to come out so I can see what happens next. Susan Byrde, don't make us wait too long.

4.0 out of 5 stars Second of trilogy, third not yet published
Good story line but frustrating that it is second in a series of three when the third book is not yet published. Would have preferred to have known before I started reading the first book!
