- Reviewed in the United States on January 30, 2017This is the one of the first books that I've read where I am completely and utterly shocked. I mean, there was so much going on and so many twists and turns. It flowed and it kept you on your toes as you read. Reading this book had me in my feelings because I could relate so much to Merci in so many ways. I don't think her sister was mean spirited, but she definitely had some issues that she needed to work through; she just didn't realize it until it was too late. This book serves as a good dose of reality. Things that I took from this book; karma is a b****, you have to keep the faith, and true love can find you at the most inopportune times, but there is always light at the end of the tunnel. This just goes to show that lies will get you nowhere and in the end could cost you everything.
- Reviewed in the United States on November 14, 2020Outstanding read, this was my first book by this author and I doubt it will be my last.
Everyone tells a lie at some point in their life, no one is perfect. There are many reasons one might tell a lie. Liars have made a choice to tell the lie they are telling and perfect the work it takes to keep them.
Merci Alexander is a down to earth smart sister with her own home and a successful career, but in the relationship department she’s not doing so well. At age fourteen something fractured her relationship with her parents and she was no longer the apple of Pastor Alexander eyes.
Her sister Grayce, is a teacher and currently living with her sister Merci. Her story is a little different she is what some would call the good daughter, the one who can do no wrong, the apple of her father’s eyes. But is she wrong? Has she been living a lie as her sister seems to think the whole family is. Something is going on in this family and the only person who seems to think something fowl is going on is Merci.
This is a story of the Alexander family no standing in their truth and continuing to live in the lies.
- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2025So many twists and turns, I love how there's bible verses throughout the story. It gives you hope if you have a situation in your life that seems unbearable. Prayer helps.

I usually don’t read books laced with Christian undertones, but I must admit, I was thoroughly impressed by the story Lakisha & Laquisha told.
This book delved into a heart-wrenching tale of family secrets that have been submersed and preserved until they literally imploded. It shows well and true that what you do when you think no one is looking, will always catch up to you (the lies -so many lies- and secrets this family kept were ridiculous). It touched on issues such as abuse, infidelity, and deceit. It told how forgiveness was key in moving forward in life.
Merci and Grayce, daughters of a renowned pastor and born less than 18 months apart, grew distant after Merci grew tired of being the scapegoat for the woes of a family that didn’t seem to love her anymore. No matter her success in life, she just never seemed good enough. Her sister, Grayce was heralded as the “good sister” and their parents constantly compared them, regardless of the fact that it was completely unfounded. I can’t say too much without giving spoilers, but Grayce . . . WOW. Do not judge a book by its cover! My heart went out to Merci, but I was so very proud of her inner strength.
While the book, did have the typical hypocrites, I liked that it was told through the eyes of the one being hypocritical instead of just pointing out what others were doing wrong. It showed the internal struggle the sisters faced and it showcased that forgiveness was key in addressing the issues that this family faced.
This book was XXX rated (and boy did they have some potty mouths)!!! That was unexpected, but quite enjoyable! I didn’t like that the prologue told me what was going to happen in the end, but I was happy they left the assailant’s identity out. Overall, it was a very good read and I’d recommend it to others.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 22, 2018First let me start by saying this is my first time reading a book from these authors it won't be the last time I select a book from these fabulous authors. I haven't written a review for a book in awhile but, when I started a sample of this book I knew from the first page I had to purchase this book and, I'm glad I did. It's definitely a page turner,up all night ,who did it book ,why so many lies. The book revolves around 2 sisters but one sister is treated so badly by her parents so that was another why question for me. Don't want to give to much away but, this book is a FANTASTIC read and, I highly recommend it to all who loves a good book this is definitely it. Please read it you won't be disappointed. Enjoy your weekend and Happy Reading!
