A very intriguing story about a woman seeking to restore the name of her family. Pride is a double edged sword. All magic has a price, and she will learn very quickly that meddling with dark powers is worst of them all. There are a lot of twists and turns, a lot of unanswered questions, but that only makes you want to read the next book more. Very well written, this book will take you on quite a ride. Looking forward to the next book in the series. I definitely recommend it.

King‘s depiction of a witch obsessed with revenge and drunk on her own power is spell-binding as main character, Prudence, strikes out on a devious plot to separate two lovers, Jade and Gavin, and put a stop to proposed legislation to keep it from becoming law. Prudence is determined that nothing will stand in her way... even if she must wake the dead for help. As King states in her tag line for this paranormal fantasy novel—the second chapter in her Surviving the Sins Series, “No one is safe when a witch’s pride is at stake!”

First, I want to state that I didn’t have the pleasure of reading King’s first novel in this series, however she provides just the right amount of background information in “Pride” so a reader may understand the basis for her characters’ motives without getting lost in the current plotline.

King’s story is well-rounded and flows fairly well. As a stand-alone read, there are just a few places where “Pride” feels a bit disjointed and one has a rare sense of getting lost in the plotline. But, readers will relish this enchanting tale as the author throws a proverbial curve ball and takes her yarn into a whole new dimension when her characters uncover an ancient mystery in the town graveyard.

Following Prudence on her mission is tinged with just the right amount of witchy sass, humor, and “Je ne sais quoi?” to keep this character quite likable, even as she manipulates circumstances to get what she wants to be accomplished. But, are Prudence’s motives all her own, or does something else sit at the heart of all this maneuvering?

This quick tale—at less than 200 pages—is an effortless and entertaining weekend read with plenty of time left for readers to check out this series’ previous and remaining chapters.

This is a fast, but intense read. It's book 2 in a series, which is a spin off of another series, so you'd be best at least picking up book 1 first. Book 2 picks up where book 1 left off, but there is a new character in town, mainly a witch name Prudance, who is looking to restore her family's price. Since this book follows the seven deadly sins, you can guess where that leads. A few secrets about Toby are revealed (I can call him Toby because I think I'm his friend) as the plot thickens. It was an enjoyable read, but the ending wasn't quite what I was expecting with a battle with the first sin. It was an enjoyable ending, but unexpected to say the least. Jade has a few more friends at her side

Prudance comes back to her hometown with one purpose: to restore her family’s pride. But, driven by the wrong motivations and playing with dark magic that doesn’t forgive mistakes, she soon realizes that she’ll have to pay dearly for her hasty decision. Fast-moving and compelling, “Pride” will certainly make a perfect read for all fans of the supernatural genre. I enjoyed it immensely! Looking forward to the next book in the series!

Pride can make you into something you don't want to be. Prudence is out to save pride of her past ancestors and present mom. But she messed up and now moms paying the price. But who pushed her to do something she wouldn't otherwise consider? Intriguing story. Keeps you wanting more!!

This is my 2nd book by this author, and I truly enjoy her writing voice, excellent storytelling skills, and ability to draw you in from the moment you start reading. I just finished Flower Shields, a Four Horseman novel, and loved it, devouring it quickly.

This novel deals with the sin of pride, which I thought was an intriguing plot line. One thing I am quickly learning from Ms. King's books is that she has a wonderful imagination and the ability to transport you into another world. Her writing is flawless, her style engaging, and she's great for a few twists and turns. All things I LOVE when I read.

I would definitely be interested to read what happens next.

Pride is book two in this series. It was a perfect addition too. It was a short, fun, and with a witch and a little dark magic what could possibly go wrong?

I have read more than a few of this authors books and I've loved all of the ones I've read. I'm looking forward to more of series. If you're looking for a series to start, grab yourself book one and enjoy.

Prudance and Pewterclaw reminded me of a couple of Tv series: True Blood and another that was based in New Orleans. I loved the atmosphere of this book, Vampires and witches, intrigue and competition.

I thought the main character was very well portrayed and so was the supporting cast.

The only downside to the book for me was the length. I would have liked it to be longer. I also think I should have read book one first....which I will do after having read this one.

Prudence is an eighth-generation witch with a grudge. She has returned home for one reason and one reason only — to stop the new legislation regarding vampires becoming law. With the help of her dead ancestors, Prudence hatches a plan to keep Jade and Gavin apart. However, there is a terrible cost. The question is — will Prudence be able to pay it?

I so adore the world that C.A. King has created, and I anxiously wait for the next book in the incredibly Portal Prophecies series. Pride (Surviving The Sins) is the next instalment in what is one of the most engaging stories I have ever read.

Prudence is insufferable, although, underneath her lofty pride and dangerous obsessions, she is a vulnerable girl who has had her heart broken. Her short reunion with Joseph was utterly heart-breaking, and I am hoping more of their story will be revealed in the following books. Her manipulation of Jade was truly abhorrent. However, Jade is her usual forgiving self, for she knows all too well what it is like when pride comes before a fall.

If you are looking for your next favourite series, then please check out The Portal Prophecies series. There are enough books in the series, and subsequent spin-offs to keep you happily reading for hours.

    I Highly Recommend.

I've read several of C.A. King's books and Pride was by far my favourite. Prudance was such a great protagonist- dark and complex with plenty of attitude! The story is atmospheric and fast-paced, with plenty of the imaginative twists and turns that characterise King's work. Really enjoying this series!
