Fallen Angel: Mythic Series, Book 2 Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 262 ratings

Fate or free will?

Cynical human businessman David Michael Corrigan is a real take-charge kind of guy. Supremely confident, this multimillionaire has no tolerance for brown-nosing sycophants or parasitic bottom feeders looking for a free ride.

When a scruffy-looking young woman shows up at his front door late one night to “help” his dying mother, he’s sure it’s a scam. The only reason he allows her to step foot in his house is because his mother likes her. It has nothing to do with the fact that she has the biggest, prettiest gray eyes he’s ever seen, or that he can’t seem to stop thinking about her.

Ryssa has enough to deal with. Earth-bound and indentured in servitude in a Demon-run club, her best friend is a serial-killer’s ghost and she lives in crummy apartment with a lactose-intolerant vampire. She doesn’t need the scathing derision of a close-minded, condescending mortal male.

Too bad her angelic nature won’t allow her to forsake the powerfully good soul hiding beneath all that bristling arrogance. Nor will his conscience allow him to ignore his instincts that there is so much more beneath the surface of that beautiful, defensive street rat.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Each book in my Mythic series is a complete story in and of itself, a standalone tale of paranormal romance with plenty of humor and emotion.

Within the pages, you will encounter vampires, shifters, angels, demons, fae, witches, mages, goddesses... just to name a few. It is only recently that these
Extraordinaries, as they call themselves, coexist peacefully in the idyllic community of Mythic. Very few know of their existence; understandably, they prefer to keep to themselves. However, you've been granted a special look into the world of these amazing beings. But be warned... once you visit Mythic, you might not want to leave.

Huge fan of Abbie Zanders, as I've said in other reviews... this is the second book in the new Mythic series, and I have to admit that I liked it better than the first. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed "Faerie Godmother," but I was really torn about who Ana ended up with. "Fallen Angel" is really interesting, and a bit darker in some ways. You know, for example, that Ryssa is a Fallen Angel, but you don't know how she Fell; she lives on Mythic's seamy side of town, and works for the local Demon Lord. There's a taste of danger to this tale, along with True Love, sacrifice, and suffering.

I liked Ryssa's inner strength and determination to do what she feels is right, no matter the personal cost - she isn't the type of Fallen Angel who turned to Evil, so she still retains her inner light. David was a little bit harder to like at first, being so wrapped up in his own anger, frustration, and grief. I get why he feels the way he does, but he's buried the love and kindness his Mother taught him so deep, it's nearly dead. We see over and over what a wonderful, kind, and strong person his dying Mother is, and we're told that he inherited so much from her, but it's hard to see. He's not quite Scrooge-like, but boy, he really seems to be on that path.

Ryssa doesn't take any crap from David, and that's a good thing. He's afraid to lose his Mother and turned that fear into anger; he's angry at the con artists who he was desperate enough to seek out in hopes of curing her. David's so sure Ryssa is another huckster, that he sees ulterior motives in everything she says and does, but she surprises him. Ryssa doesn't try to be friendly when he sneers at her - when fired upon, she returns fire, snapping right back at him when he insults her.

The dynamic between them is interesting, and I liked seeing them grow towards each other. There's a little bit of bitter-sweetness to this story, reminiscent of Hans Christian Andersen: the Little Match Girl comes to mind. There is pain and sacrifice for love: how Ryssa saves David from dangers he isn't even aware of, and how ultimately they save each other.

Loved seeing a totally different side of Mythic, and there was an interesting twist, connecting Ryssa to characters in the previous book. The reveal was really well done. The way David changes over the course of the book is well done, too, and his discovery of Extraordinaries was smooth. I loved that when faced with a choice he didn't need to make, he finally showed that he really did inherit his Mother's courage and love.

I’m really liking this new series by Ms. Zanders. I warn you, the heat level on these books has been abysmally low… ok, so it’s not that bad, but after her Callaghan Brothers series’ sexy hotness these have a totally different vibe and it’s something you have to get used to.

Ryssa is a fallen angel bound to service to a demon and waitressing at his club. At the same time, she helps people make the transition when the time comes to leave this world. She meets David, the son of a dying woman in such a situation, and he is a complete jerk to her.

David is tired of the phonies trying to take advantage of his mother by promising miracle cures. When she tells him of a girl who can help her at the end, he thinks it’s just another scammer trying to get money.

So what if the scruffy girl that answers their summons has the most amazing eyes he’s ever seen. She’s still a fraud, right? But when she doesn’t act the way he expected doubt begins to creep up… though he doesn’t stop being a jerk to her.

Ryssa could do without David’s attitude, as her life is difficult enough. What if he is the first male to ever make her feel tingly all over? They have no chance of being together, they are too different, he is human and she… is not. And the complications not only don’t stop there but just keep piling up.

As I said, I really enjoyed Fallen Angel but I felt it had some of the same issues as the first in the series. Our couple doesn’t even begin to think about being a couple until well past the halfway point, and then they spend little time together as a real couple. They almost need to be forced to acknowledge their feelings but when they do they go from 0 to 260 in 2 seconds.

However and surprisingly, all of this didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the story, I’m just loving these stories and can’t wait for more as there are lots of characters I’d like to see more of.

Found this book to be truly amazing. While very much a love story, the premise you learn is about a fallen angel and a human. I really enjoyed the back story of Ryssa, Zach, and Ana. The fun cast of characters, including Jax, Lenny, and Marcela, was great!
Overall, it got me thinking about love and redemption and what one would do or sacrifice for love. (It brought me back to my philosophy classes!)

It's a fantastic story and highly recommend it!

This is a must read. David is broken and his only connection is his mother and the love he has for her. Ryssa is a fallen angel and has accepted the consequences of her actions. When the two meet it is like oil and water but David finds himself drawn to her. Zanders has given us a story of hope, love and the ultimate sacrifice that must be given in order to achieve it. A beautiful story.

Ryssa sacrificed herself for someone she loves...and you'll never guess who. David meets Ryssa at a time he's heart broken with dealing with his mother's fast approaching death. They don't get along at first. Funny thing is that my favorite characters were Jax and Zach in this book. Really neat world that's created in this series.

Another paranormal romance so worth reading. The hero is a mortal man, but he falls for an unlikely heroine. This is a stand alone book but it touches, very briefly, on the first book in this series. You don't have to read the first, but you can. It's a very good story in and of itself. Don't want to give away too much but I liked the characters and think you will also. Now on to read the next book in this series.

Fallen Angel, book 2 in the Mythic Series, did not disappoint. It’s a bit darker than the first book. Ryssa and David’s story pulled me in from the beginning, tugging at my heartstrings. You want Ryssa to have her Happily Ever After. I must admit I had a box of tissues next to me while reading. I highly recommend this book.

Sometimes you need to look past the exterior to truly see what is in front of you!
The second book in Mythic, Fallen Angel only assures me that this is going to be a must read series for me. David is broken and doesn’t even see it, Ryss is fallen and has lost her hope. Their story is engaging, and the secondary characters are alluring and the world built is fascinating. I look forward to reading many more books in this series
