Wellington Rose (Wellington Cross Series Book 3) Kindle Edition

4.3 out of 5 stars 212 ratings

The year is 1885 and the two Wellington half-sisters who share the same middle name, Lillie Rose and Lizzie Rose, are all grown up. As they watch their loving parents, Madeline and Ethan, they long for their own romances. One is betrothed to a childhood friend but meets a new man who takes her breath away. The other has found no one she is the least bit interested in but when a man from her past comes back to town, she realizes she has been waiting for him all along. With plenty of action including a bank robbery, a kidnapping, a train hold-up, and long-held secrets to be discovered and revealed, this new installment of the Wellington series has a little bit of everything, especially romance.

Cheryl R. Lane was born and raised in Johnson City, Tennessee, and went to college at East Tennessee State University before marrying her high school sweetheart and moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia. She started writing as a hobby when she was in college after purchasing a couple of Southern Heritage cookbooks, which were filled with pages of beautiful old plantation homes. She used to sit outside in her backyard and type on a manual typewriter at a picnic table under tall maple trees.  She continued writing after moving to Virginia Beach and visiting beautifully restored homes in Williamsburg as well as plantations on the James River. Her day job has been working as a medical transcriptionist for 30 years and now as a legal transcriptionist while writing on the side. She finally decided to self-publish her first book in December 2012, and she enjoys the freedom and creativity of self-publishing.  She loves being outside in nature and her hobbies include visiting historical homes and gardens, reading, traveling, and exercising.  She is still married to her sweetheart after 30 years, and they have one son. Since I so loved Book 1, I was afraid that I wouldn't like Book 2 as much. I knew as soon as I began, that there would be no disappointment. One is as compelling as the other. I love the characters and the location, as it is described, is just beautiful. I'm from the deep south myself, and really enjoy, and revel in, the "sites and sounds" that I grew up with. The author has such a way with words....most enjoyable!

More secrets abound in the Wellington household. Secrets that can tear a family apart.

Lizzie Rose gave her heart away to Josiah back when they were children. If she can't be with him, she chooses to be with no one. Lillie Rose thinks she has given her heart to Wesley Hamilton but she feels there is something missing from their love. They are sisters bound together by the love of their real father. Their lives are torn apart when Josiah and his family expectantly returns into their lives. He has also brought Ian, his good for nothing, trouble following cousin. Lizzie is reminded of all the feelings she has for her so-called Uncle and Lillie is blown away by the new feelings she has for Ian. In the company of friendship, young love and passion, the long buried secrets surface and prove that things are not always as they seem.

I have loved Cheryl R. Lane's stories since discovering Wellington Grove. It was the first book I found myself staying up all night to read. She pulls you into the lives of her characters and does not let go. There are twists and turns that keep you begging for more and Wellington Rose is no different. She proves that true love will conquer all.

I was researching books to read and found Book 3 and 4 in this series. I had already read Books 1 & 2 last year. I purchased #3; but found I had to go back and read 1 & 2 again to be able to figure out the characters; so I did. Books 1 & 2 were very good as I had remembered; book #3 to me seemed to drown on and on in the beginning trying to explain who was who and where each person fit in the other people's lives.......it was sort of complex; but once it got into the story line the book was pretty good...... I'm now reading the 4th. All in all I enjoyed the series of books; and would consider a positive recommendation for reading the entire series. This 3rd book was a little hard to get into but about 3/4 thru the book the story line began to kick-in and it was good.

Once you start reading it's hard to put this book down. The characters are like keeping up with old friends that live far away. I became so involved that I could imagine being there and I found myself feeling the heartache that some of the characters felt as well as the joy. I like Cheryl Lane's books. I love historical romances, but some books get a little too detailed with the sexual in counters. Cheryl keeps it classy. I thank her for that. Looking forward to her next book!!!!!
