Wellington Cross (Wellington Cross Series Book 1) Kindle Edition

3.9 out of 5 stars 520 ratings

Madeline Wellington wakes up a year after the Civil War ended with no memory of her life. She is found by a man who claims to be her betrothed but later finds out he lied about nearly everything. She had actually been married to another man and they’d had a baby together.

Ethan Wellington is distraught after losing his wife of a year. Yet within another year, he marries another woman, Elizabeth, just one month before Madeline reappears in his life. When he finds out Elizabeth is with child, he regretfully sends Madeline away to her brother’s. The distance between them is torturous, even as they share responsibility of their child.

William Brown is a new hired hand of Madeline’s brother, who had served in the war with Ethan and has taken it upon himself to watch over Madeline for him. He offers to enter into an agreement to take care of a growing problem of Madeline’s. Will she accept his proposal of marriage in order to save the family’s reputation?

A sudden tragedy sets into motion a series of events that will change everything. Madeline is haunted by something from her past, something best left forgotten, for her life depends on it. This last forgotten memory is the key to how she befell the accident that caused her to lose her memory to begin with. Will she ever find the happiness and love that she longs for?

Cheryl R. Lane was born and raised in Johnson City, Tennessee, and went to college at East Tennessee State University before marrying her high school sweetheart and moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia. She started writing as a hobby when she was in college after purchasing a couple of Southern Heritage cookbooks, which were filled with pages of beautiful old plantation homes. She used to sit outside in her backyard and type on a manual typewriter at a picnic table under tall maple trees.  She continued writing after moving to Virginia Beach and visiting beautifully restored homes in Williamsburg as well as plantations on the James River. Her day job has been working as a medical transcriptionist for 30 years and now as a legal transcriptionist while writing on the side. She finally decided to self-publish her first book in December 2012, and she enjoys the freedom and creativity of self-publishing.  She loves being outside in nature and her hobbies include visiting historical homes and gardens, reading, traveling, and exercising.  She is still married to her sweetheart after 30 years, and they have one son. Wellington Cross
I loved Wellington Cross! Madeline had a terrible accident and had amnesia for a year. And when she regained her memories, was heartbroken to find out her husband had remarried . The love between them never died but how could they be together now? Everything was working against them, even family betrayal. I definitely recommend this book…you will not want to put it down. Love, heartache, betrayal, and loyalty is all in the Wellington family

I LOVED this book. from the first chapter i was hooked! the twists & turns made it oh so different & kept me guessing, I couldn't put it down. This book is well written & a fantastic read. I can't wait to see what the author has planned for the next book in the series!!! this author paints a picture with her words for example I could picture my self sitting in the picnic spot. I Highly recommend this for a rainy day, when you won't be disturbed as you will not be able to stop turning the pages till you are done & then like me you will be waiting (not very patiently i might add) for the next book.

The storyline was good but lacked detail. It moved to quickly for my tastes. The history of this era is so enchanting, that it would have been better to start the story at the beginning and bring it to completion where it did. Imagine the possibilities this story could hold had it started with the main characters childhood. Otherwise a good read .

This book has an interesting premise. The author has an enthusiastic approach but I feel her writing style could be polished up a bit and the narrative flow could be improved. The dialogue is quite repetitive at times and I felt that several more modern expressions used by the characters didn't fit the time period. It was difficult for me to feel sympathetic towards Ethan, the main male character, who remarried before his first wife had been missing even a year. I want to encourage the author to keep up her good work and continue to hone her writing skills.

Wellington Cross was a very good book. It had a lot of twist and turns in the mystery of who wanted Maddie dead. But the ending will really surprised you. It had a lot of Historical information of how things were back during the Civil War and how families were torn apart. How brothers fought against brothers and friends fought against friends, even Fathers working as spyes for the one side win which to save their homes. it was a very good book. I would recommend this book to anyone who are interested in the Civil War stories.

I thought this book was very well written - the characters were well developed - and the story was very interesting and well written and held my interest through out the series. Very good for the author's first attempt. The second book was just as good - I highly reccommend

Very clumsy transitions. Joy and silliness at very inappropriate times right after tragic deaths. As a big fan of historical fiction I was pleased by some descriptions of items from the civil war period but the dialog was clumsy, silly and many times used modern terms not ever heard in that period. Contrived romantic situations.

The story was so poorly written. Flat characters, repetitive language, and historically questionable. I like to torture myself, so I kept skiming through to see how low the author would sink. The hero, Ethan, was fickle and weak. He loves his lost wife so much, he mourns her for one year and then has her declared dead so he can remarry. He claims to love Madeline, but separates her from her daughter and has another woman raise her. He finds out his second wife is pregnant and he is so distraught that he has unprotected "relations" with his first wife, which results in a pregnancy! He is supposedly such a good man and father that he will stay in a loveless marriage for the sake of an unborn child, but he abandons a second unborn child. Then he has the nerve to question whether Madeline would raise another woman's child. As if he isn't the one to blame for everything. Loser!

Loved it! Easy to read and so detailed you could see and experience the scenes. Great story with that kept me interested all the way. Romance, tears, emotional and a bit of a twist towards the end. Of course there in one character in the book, Jefferson, that you are constantly wondering about.

3.0 out of 5 stars sweet historical romance
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 13, 2013
Nothing wrong with this for my 3 star rating - its just that there wasn't much exciting about it either. A typical gentle romance with a few twists and turns but nothing dramatic - its horses for courses and for many that's just what they want - I like a bit more angst and love - more highs and lows, hence my 3 stars. .
