Review

"Oh what a fun book! I loved the characters in this book and I hope we can have whole series with them they are just that amazing! This is the first book I have read by Ms. Barbour and I was completely taken aback by how real her characters were.

One of the best examples of her genius with characters is, The O'Reilly, he was the perfect comedic relief his Irish brogue and charm were the perfect offset to the tension and drama created by Renee and Finn's jobs. While he provided his comedic relief he still managed to be a loving father and serve an integral part in the end of the book."

"If you like a well written mystery with suspense and a dash of romance with a sprinkle of humor, then you definitely want this book! The suspense grabs you from the beginning and pulls you to the edge of your seat as the drama unfolds.
Undercover cops put themselves into vulnerable positions where anything could go not according to plan. All for the chance to " catch the bad guy." Renee is such a person with no hesitation to jump in and make herself a sitting duck. Her situations are breathtaking. The conclusion priceless!!
The characters are believable and the fight scenes are illustrated so well it is like watching a movie. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review. I heartily recommend this book and wish I could award more than five stars. Five Stars!!"

Oh boy was this good. Unusual serial killers, rapist's, wife beaters, bad guys all around. Two separate cop shops with there star officer's out to catch the bad guys. When reading a good book written by a good author you are instantly pulled into the story. I could feel the love between the O'Reilly' s the frustration of keeping a loved one safe. The pain of knowing that you might not be 100% to keep them safe. I found myself reading this book with a Irish accent and as serious as some of the crimes, I had to chuckle! Their is such love between these characters you can feel it deep in your soul. I have read every book by Mimi and each one is better than the last. I thought the Vegas series was my favorite but I think this one may just become my new Fav! Love this series and highly recommend any and all books by Mimi!

**** "Special Agent Finnegan" (Book Two in the FBI series) by Mimi Barbour (individual novel and also in the "To Protect and Love" box set)

Having read the first book in the FBI series by Mimi Barbour, "Special Agent Francesca," which I thoroughly enjoyed, I was looking forward to reading book two in the series. The author did not disappoint.

I was truly enthralled by this novel. I have always liked Special Agent Finnegan; his supervisor and friend Jack who always seems to be having a bad day, month or year; The Joker also known as Colin (Finn's father and a retired cop) and the addition of police officer Renée Knight in this novel. The characters are consistently written very well. They are easy to relate to, except maybe Jack 😃, are very realistic on their attitudes, behavior, and actions; and interact with one another in very honest and relatable manner.

The plot line the author chose was very interesting and had many minor plot lines running throughout. Never was one dropped or lost, but rather they were all very detailed, written very well, and easy to follow while adding a great deal of depth to the novel and the characters.

Mimi Barbour writes with great strength and realism when it comes to this series of romantic suspense novels. And each one keeps getting better than the last.

I absolutely love the character of Finn and how much Renée changed him in good ways. I love the interactions with his father and vice versa. They are realistic, solid, and truly wonderful characters. And they added to the richness of this novel.

I definitely recommend this novel, as well as the others in this series.

This was a really good book. The action was quick and kept me on the edge of my seat. The only problem I had was when he yelled at her for her scarf flying at him. He chose to drive a dangerous machine without a helmet and she diesn't control the wind. He was just as culpable as she was. But it was glossed over and she seemed to just forget about his bad behavior. Other than that, the book was interesting. Some of the conversations were a little stilted and didn't flow well but the overall story was really good.

I enjoyed this book. Finnegan and his father are so funny together. Finn has been undercover for a long time, but got shot and had to recover. His poor father had a heart attack when told about Finn. Now Finn is thinking about retiring from the FBI. There is someone killing people and making it look like suicide. Unfortunately Renee, who is a city cop, found her beloved father killed by the suicide killer. She is heart broken, and wants her uncle Jack who is heading up the FBI investigation to let her in on the sting. The one clue they have has something to do with the pub his father owns. Renee and Finn have to work together in the pub to try and find the killer. I enjoyed watching the two get to know each other. I loved how Finn is so protective of the lines he loves. I encourage you to read the book.

I enjoyed reading this book. It has great characters and plot. It contains several different types of crime, romance, family, happiness and loss. Like the first book in this series, this book held my interest all the way through. I loved the banter back and forth between Finnegan and his dad, The O’Reilly. I was cheering on Renee, who is a tough cop. Finnegan was a great hero in this book. I was surprised at where the help came from for Renee in the end. I would recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reminds me of a written version of the Lethal Weapon movies
Reviewed in Canada on July 27, 2019
In so many ways, this series reminds me of a written version of the Lethal Weapon movies. There’s the heavy law enforcement presence, the silly, loving family and friends, and the twisty little mystery with lots of action and suspense. I love that Renée is so fierce and independent. What I love even more is that her tough outer shell hides a vulnerable heart with the consistency of gooey marshmallow. And Finnegan is her mirror image with his own tough-as-nails persona and gold-plated marshmallow heart. Even more than I loved watching this pair interact with each other, I adored seeing the time spent with their friends and family. Those connections are where this book really came alive for me.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on December 1, 2014
This book is a tense page turner with wonderful characters. Finn and Renee are great and the chemistry between them sizzles, but Finn's father, The O'Reilly, is the one who really stole my heart. He is a lovable old rogue who obviously adores Finn. The father/son relationship between these two warmed my heart. Both Finn and Renee are working undercover, Finn for the FBI and Renee for the police. They understand and respect each other and make a great team when they finally work together to beat the suicide killers who took the life of Renee's father. Very enjoyable romantic suspense with some twists and turns, great characters and a satisfying conclusion.
