I deeply related to the main character Katie, her interests, her struggles and her desire to build a new life. Dapp's eloquent writing made the story flow, quickly hooking me from the start. I highly recommend this story, especially right now in the Halloween season. I can't wait to read her next book Autumn Lady!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 28, 2016I found the storyline confusing. I often had to reread a part to put things together. Not my favorite book.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 1, 2016Excellent first book by a well versed author. Enjoyed the trip down memory lane of the beautifully northern California area. Great spin on the now, then and the in between. Great job Annemarie, looking forward to the next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 19, 2018I really enjoyed the way the author introduces each of the characters in this story and how they care for one another. Her neighbors, the Camellia Sanchez family, are especially well fleshed out and could be seen and heard through the pages. The primary protagonist, Katie, also comes alive with understanding and empathy. Both Camellia and Katie’s past experiences of abuse are also sadly relevant. Though there are strong supernatural elements to this tale, readers’ don’t need to believe in them to appreciate the conflict, people and settings within this tale.

5.0 out of 5 stars Intriguing Paranormal Romance
I don't usually read romance novels and had never read a paranormal romance novel before and didn't quite know what to expect. AnneMarie Dapp is a very good writer however and I soon found myself immersed in the story. I have never been to the USA, but soon found myself liking the sound of the Napa Valley in California and was intrigued too, to learn about the Halloween customs Americans practice. The story takes place not only in the present time, but also back in 19th century Ireland during the Potato Famine and tells the story of Katie O'Brien who having managed to escape from an abusive marriage, is starting afresh in the Napa Valley. I won't give the plot away, but will say that Katie finds herself drawn back in time to 19th century Ireland, when an ancestor of hers had to face a choice no woman should ever have to face. It was a very engrossing novel with a dramatic and exciting ending. Although I am usually a modern day thriller fan, I would now consider reading another novel of this type. Well done AnneMarie Dapp and good luck with your writing.
