- Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2018My heart broke for Lori. I was happy it didnt go down the drug route. It was good for a change to see older men make it,the early 20s rock storys get old. I loved Becky cute kid. I loved all the guys, yet..I kept waiting for the shoe to drop.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 23, 2015It's not perfect, but the pure enjoyment is worth five stars! If you have a little patience, this book is a treasure. I was afraid at first that the author was going into too much detail, but turns out that's what immerses you into the characters and their story. And it's LONG – over 600 pages – but you don't get bored of them. There's a basic oddity that you just have to accept, and that is that the book was set in the US but written with British English. It can be jarring at times (we don't call a medical exam table a "couch" or a rental car a "hire car" or the driver's seat the "driving seat." And I'm sorry, but in the US, we don't spell "tire" "tyre."
But as I said, if you just go with it, it goes with you. I really loved this book and can't wait for Book 2! Good on you, Coral McCallum.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 21, 2016An up and coming rock band, love, personal struggle and a beautiful, romantic setting converge to make this insightful debut novel one you don't want to end. Get your front-row VIP concert ticket and back stage pass to the hot new rock band Silver Lake, as they embark on their incredible (and sometimes difficult) journey of their first major tour, which blends perfectly with the intense love story of the beautiful, fragile Lori, and the sexy, handsome rock star Jake. Stronger Within is an engaging, sexy, well-written novel that will leave you eager for the sequel.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 8, 2015Absolutely adored this story! ‘Stronger Within’ ticks all my boxes: a gorgeous rock star, a loveable (and vulnerable) heroine, a seaside setting, a blossoming romance, the right amount of spice, and a rock band on the up-and-up getting their big break and going on their first European tour. I was cheering the entire time! This is the author’s debut novel, I believe, but Ms McCallum is finding her voice throughout the book, and it’s a highly enjoyable read that will leave you with a nice big smile on your face.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 11, 2015Sweet story of Jake and Lori. Not a lot of drama, but the story kept moving forward. Had to look past the attempt at American vernacular but otherwise well done. Waiting to see what's next for Silver Lake.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2015Stronger within is a rock romance set mainly in a town in Delaware. It opens with us being introduced to Lori as she makes her painful way down the beach on crutches. Lori is slowly recovering from a serious leg injury and is struggling with the mental condition of a long recovery.
That is until Jake Power walks into her life to help her when she takes a fall. 35 year old Jake works in a pizza parlour but his big dream is to become a rock star. He's in a band called Silver Lake. Jake sees something in Lori he likes and wants to pursue and Lori's whole life seems brighter with Jake around.
With Lori's past as designer Mz Hyde and the help of best friend Maddison Addison, Jake and the band are given a wonderful opportunity to fulfil their dreams. The book takes you along as the band grows from playing in the local pub to supporting a top act on tour.
This is a good debut novel and great for lovers of a rock romance.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Read
I have read hundreds of ‘music’ themed novels which gallop along, throwing angst, doubt, infidelity, crazed groupies and all access passes to the after-show party and back stage antics, at the reader at a rapid rate of knots and very good some of them are too. This is not one of those books! However, it is right up there with, in my opinion, some of the best Rock ‘n’ Roll novels I have read.
Stronger Within is a substantial read which focuses on the two main characters, Jake and Lori and an abundance of secondary and support characters which enrich and support the story no end. The lead characters are older and wiser, more grounded but none the less, have an intricate background story simmering away waiting to come to the fore.
The storyline quickly grabs you and keeps you reading…a testament to the talents of Ms McCallum to fully develop her characters and keep you invested in the story which builds interest and intrigue from being fully invested in the lives and struggles of Jake and Lori and to some degree, the other characters who share their lives.
The primary setting for this first novel is beautifully described to the point where you can build a detailed picture in your head as you read, the surroundings coming to life from the words on the page. Rehoboth is now on my State-Side ‘to visit’ list.
Jake and Lori’s relationship is honest, even though it takes some time for Lori to divest the details of her traumatic accident to Jake. But when she did, boy, did I feel her pain. I really like Lori, she is a strong and decisive lady who is aware of the needs of others, values her friendships and is empathetic to those around her.
Jake is a rock star in the making who has morals and a conscience and even though you know there’s more in his background than comes to light in this first book, you believe in him to work his way through whatever lies in wait for him in future books.
The sex scenes are tastefully written and make you believe in the strength of their relationship. Personally, I’d have liked a bit more heat between the pages but the passion was certainly there, it developed slowly throughout the book, convincing the reader of Jakes depth of feeling for Lori and his commitment to her.
This book is not only really well written but it has been well edited and proof read…thank you Ms McCallum for a beautiful read and such wonderful characters. I am so pleased to find that all three of the books in the series have been published (I try not to read a series until they are all available to read).
I can strongly recommend this novel and if you’re sitting on the fence about it, don’t! Jump straight in, you won’t regret it.
With that said and without further delay, I’m off to start reading Impossible Depths (Silver Lake series Book 2).

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read ....
Stronger Within is a beautifully crafted love story set to the back drop of a picturesque beach and kick ass rock concerts.
The heroine of the tale is Lori, a gifted artist, who travels to the beach to recuperate after suffering a serious injury. Here on the beach, a chance meeting with the charming and talented Jake diverts both their lives onto a new path of love and adventure. With Lori’s help and encouragement, Jake pursues his dreams and sees Silverlake, his band, succeed. It’s a tale of friends, family and following dreams.
A very enjoyable, well written page turner, with interesting and endearing characters. I am extremely glad this is the first book in the tale as I cannot wait for the next instalment in the Silverlake series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Brilliant !!!
This is the best book, by far which I have read in a long , long time. The storytelling is fantastic, the characters well rounded and the subject fascinating. If I could have given more stars I would have, this is an author to look out for... Starting simply, the story expands into a truly mesmerising love story which kept me captivated til the end. I laughed and cried along with the characters, it felt as if I were really there. I cannot wait for the sequel and hope that there are many more books in the Silver Lake series, hopefully telling the next chapter of Lori and Jake; then maybe future stories telling the stories of the other band members.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love Rock & Roll....
I do not normally read books from the romantic fiction genre, and probably little from contemporary fiction either - but I gave this a go and immediately loved the rock & roll backdrop running throughout the story. The author has created some strong characters we can all relate too, and characters I feel I really know by the end of the novel. There's something here for most readers. Strong debut (no pun intended), and I will certainly be buying the next two books in the series, to work into my future reading programme.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed the read...
Well written and very easy for me to read. Maybe a bit too long and I found myself hoping with each page that there would be a dramatic twist which never came. Saying that it kept my interest to the end though and I liked the Rock Band theme.... I will read the next book when it comes out.
