She is what some people might call a ghost whisperer. She can feel and sometimes see spirits that have passed on. She finds an old diary which leads her to clues about who the female spirit may be. Competing with her attention is a dark entity that brings fear to her heart. Could the answers to who the dark spirit is be revealed in that same diary? Meanwhile, she tries to live a normal life with new friends, new family, and a new job in Colonial Williamsburg. However, after traveling to England for the summer, she discovers that her life is in danger. Will it be any better when she returns home, or will danger follow her?

Cheryl R. Lane was born and raised in Johnson City, Tennessee, and went to college at East Tennessee State University before marrying her high school sweetheart and moving to Virginia Beach, Virginia. She started writing as a hobby when she was in college after purchasing a couple of Southern Heritage cookbooks, which were filled with pages of beautiful old plantation homes. She used to sit outside in her backyard and type on a manual typewriter at a picnic table under tall maple trees.  She continued writing after moving to Virginia Beach and visiting beautifully restored homes in Williamsburg as well as plantations on the James River. Her day job has been working as a medical transcriptionist for 30 years and now as a legal transcriptionist while writing on the side. She finally decided to self-publish her first book in December 2012, and she enjoys the freedom and creativity of self-publishing.  She loves being outside in nature and her hobbies include visiting historical homes and gardens, reading, traveling, and exercising.  She is still married to her sweetheart after 30 years, and they have one son. Whispers From The Past
I really loved the book from the very beginning. It had me guessing and speculating throughout the entire book and I didn’t want to put it down. The characters were introduced in a way that I became part of them. When Sarah and her daughter Tori, move into the house that Sarah inherited from her deceased husband. Moving from the house they had lived in, because it held to many memories, there lives are about to change forever. The house is rumored to be haunted, and needs a lot of work, but what and who they discover will give them much more insight to their family history.

Whispers From the Past will give your more insight to the history of this family. The story focuses on Jason and Sarah and the connection they have before they even meet. Sarah and her daughter, Tori are trying to move on after the death of her husband and Tori’s Dad, Seth. When they arrive at the plantation Sarah inherited, they meet. From there it’s a whirlwind of changes. With a backdrop of Colonial Williamsburg and the surrounding historical area. Beautiful story.

Sarah Wellington-Barnes is still in shock over the death of her husband in Afghanistan. She needs to get away from the memories. She and her daughter, Tori, are moving to Charles City County in Virginia. Sarah inherited a rundown plantation from Seth. Will they be able to start a new life here? As soon as they arrive at Misty Hill, life changes. Seth’s cousin, Jason, is living on the property. Sarah isn’t sure she should trust him since she never heard of him. I could feel the attraction between them. He’s kind, caring and wants to stay, but I sensed he has secrets. I liked seeing these two interact. They have powerful chemistry. Sarah is a good person. I liked her. I was glad that she easily made new friends. I hoped she would find peace and happiness here. The secondary story was fascinating. Sarah’s daughter, Tori, has a special power. She can sense ghosts. She finds a kindred spirit in Grayson, Seth’s son. He is a charmer who has developed unusual powers. They meet when Tori volunteers at Williamsburg where he’s a ghost tour guide. What a small world. I enjoyed how the author described the story’s setting. I felt as if I were there. Whispers From The Past pulled me in with its surprising twists as well as the paranormal theme. The characters were well written. It was easy to care for them. The dialogue was realistic and expressed their true emotions. The ending took me by surprise. I loved that Cheryl R. Lane connected this series with her Wellington Cross books. Now I’m hooked. I have to find out what happens next.
