About the author

Anne Penn has been writing all of her life. Her interests are focused primarily on true stories. Penn has written 5 books about the Golden State Killer Cases to document possible murders that are still unsolved as cold cases in the State of California. A multi-generational native of Sacramento where the notorious East Area Rapist lived, the criminal was always in the Sacramento area not far from Anne and all of the women he harmed. That has been Ms. Penn's focus. Bringing answers to families who still wait for justice is part of why Ms. Penn put her research into book form.
Anne Penn's background is in Psychology, Criminal Justice and Addiction Specialties. A Certified Addiction Specialist she also obtained a degree in Addiction Studies. Anne is also a certified crisis & suicide prevention counselor & has also obtained a degree in Sociology and Addiction Studies. Anne has been interested in True Crime stories since she watched the aftermath of the assassination of John Kennedy unfold as a young child. There have been many high-profile crimes she has studied since 1968 when she was still a child. Senator Robert Kennedy, and next came the Manson Murders. The Zodiac Killer ran amok briefly when Anne was a child and she and her family were two hours away from his crimes.
Forensics and the psychology of why a person becomes a serial offender have been a huge interest while studying serial killer Theodore Bundy since 1980. Anne has studied everything she can about serial killers like BTK, Dahmer, Gacy and others over time. Also, a field of study is forensics. Anne had to share the connections she has to The East Area Rapist/Original Night Stalker/Golden State Killer, originally hoping to help solve the case of EAR and GSK by asking those from her hometown of Sacramento if they thought the profile of the offender sounded like someone they might have known. Now after deep diving into what may have actually happened in the 58 years the Golden State Killer was free; her investigations have inspired her to write What If? Golden State Killer ZODIAC SOLVED. Next was End Game of The Most Dangerous Game Golden State Killer which discusses the fact that besides being a serial rapist this man was a prolific serial killer. End Game includes the politics of the time, geographic profiling which has always been an interest of Anne's. There is commentary and she shares the connections to the Zodiac Killer in this and her follow-up book. GSK was sentenced to life without parole August of 2020. Penn continued to investigate which then brought about the book Serial Slaughter Zodiac Killer (with Convicted Serial Killer Joseph DeAngelo) in 2021. This book shows the connections of the Golden State Killer to the Zodiac Killer. Penn shows how this perpetrator could in fact be the same man. A fascinating read. Penn has been a woman's/victims advocate all of her life. Penn is an advocate for victims of violent crime and believes that justice must prevail in these old cold cases. Many victims and victims' families still wait for justice. Great reads. annepenn.wordpress.com for her blog.

- Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2020Adding to the great reservoir of knowledge that she had previously unearthed about the monstrosity known as the Golden State Killer in her first book "Murder On His Mind", author Anne Penn paints a disturbing portrait of the man who has now been arrested and charged with multiple murders.
In this follow up book "The Creep Among Us: The Golden State Killer After The Arrest", Anne takes the reader on a journey from the beginning to the end of this decades long nightmare. A nightmare that included her own family members. A nightmare that haunts the victims, a nightmare that will never go away.
Anne's suspicions that the GSK was still living in the area were vindicated, when law enforcement through the use of DNA, were finally able to put a face to the crimes of this serial killer - Joseph James DeAngelo. A 72 year old former police officer, who lived among the victims he preyed on - the very people he had sworn an oath to protect.
Along the way, Anne takes a look at the failure of law enforcement to connect the dots. Searching for the answers as to why this heinous killer was allowed to walk free for so many years. And in doing so, one clue emerges that was in the hands of detectives, the one clue that was overlooked, the one clue that would have pointed the finger at one of their own!
- Reviewed in the United States on December 20, 2018Anne Penne completes another great book about the Golden State Killer and East Area Rapist after his arrest. She goes into depth about who he is and why he became one of the worst serial rapists and killers in US history... Great analysis of why they took 40 years to catch him, how they finally caught him, how the Sacramento Sheriffs dropped the ball a number of times and should have caught him, how he traveled to the Sacramento area from Auburn where he lived and was a police officer. She always maintained he was a cop, worked with an accomplice sometimes, and that he stayed in the Sacramento area all these years and why.....Lots of great information and additions by ballistic expert Mark Smith and Contra Costa Lead Investigator of the time, Larry Cromptom, as to what law enforcement did wrong and hot to prevent this from happening again......A must read for those who want the latest update on Joseph DeAngelo.....who indeed was the creep among Sacramento residents, living 40 years right amongst his victims...
- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2019Another stellar book by Anne Penn on this animal. Her relationship to some of his victims plus her educational background and personal experience in law enforcement solidifies her expertise on this subject. Going on 36 years in law enforcement in California and growing up during this crime spree in the Sacramento area, I have always been interested in these cases. Anne not only answers the questions I had but makes her book more interesting with her personal comments mixed in with the facts. If these crimes interest you, this is the book for you. If you lived in any of the areas of these crimes during that period of time, this book is for you. Once you pick It up, you won’t want to put it down..
- Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2021Anne Penn shares her innocent adventures growing up in and around the same area as the Golden State Killer. Being a visual person, I felt I was there during her travels throughout Northern California. Such horrible crimes were committed in and around the places she had found comfort. A thief, rapist, a killer. Anne's research, facts, the investigation of others, and her own conclusions make a person feel the evil of this monster's acts. But what about those that are yet to be found? As a person interested in true crime, Anne Penn has certainly caught my attention. It is a rare and welcomed opportunity to feel that strong of a connection with the author.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 24, 2019Is more about the feelings from the author than a real book about this case. Disappointing. I expected more details about the gsk where he exact lived when teen. Etc
- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2020I kept getting irritated while trying to read this book. This is the only book I've read in this genre in which the author makes it all about them. Who does that? She seems to have had a very distant relationship by marriage with one of the victims but not enough to know them very well. She even hints that she was an important part of the investigation, which I don't believe for a minute. I don't even believe she was a SMALL part of it. Look, I don't know her and I could be all wrong. Maybe I'm just not liking her writing style. I highly recommend Michelle McNamara's book, I'll Be Gone in the Dark, instead. She was the real deal.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2020Such a frightening story. Well documented and made me feel like I was a part of it.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 23, 2021I've read a number of books on this case, and this is one of the best! I appreciate her writing style, as well as her connections to the case. I've been following this case for white some time, and with his enormous spree of crimes and continued streak of not getting caught I thought they'd never catch this guy. Thank God there were people working the case who never gave up!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do not read this book, unless have a reading age of an 8 year old.
This book was so badly written it was almost comical! In her opening statement she announces that this man is so bad she won't even print his name - then prints it in the next sentence and repeats it constantly throughout the book. In one chapter she talks about a marriage, and announces that she won't print the mans name out of respect. She then posts a newspaper clipping of the wedding announcement, because the print is so small you won't be able to read it (well why include it then?). A quick tap on the Kindle to enlarge it and you can read every word of the article (which is of no relevance anyway).
