The Ballet (Shadow of Dance Book 2) Kindle Edition

4.0 4.0 out of 5 stars 42 ratings

In the theater, ballerina Gabrielle Valera moves across the stage like a beautiful butterfly in a spring garden—weightless and graceful with flawless technique and exquisite artistry. However, even those closest to her have no idea of the dark secret she harbors—or why she carries a semi-automatic handgun. When Gabi encounters handsome Derek Conner, a wealthy ER physician, sparks fly. While neither believes a romantic relationship is in the master plan, the power of attraction jeopardizes the personal agenda of each. Derek discovers feelings for the dancer he never believed existed. To Gabi’s dismay, desire like she’s never known is awakened, yet she cannot commit to Derek, nor explain why. Although confused, and at moments hurt, by Gabi’s behavior, Derek is determined to uncover the cause of her erratic and puzzling actions and free her of the demons. Gabi is equally determined to preserve the secret condemning her to an invisible prison.

From the Author

I began ballet classes at age five. I never became a dancer but have been devoted to the ballet my entire life. I've served on the executive boards of four ballet companies, the Dance Panel of the State of Florida Grants Program, been a dance critic and writer for multiple publications, attended performances of the world's greatest ballet companies, and raised a brilliant ballet instructor, choreographer, and dancer. In addition, I have counted among my dearest friends a number of great ballet teachers. Therefore, when I came to create characters in my novels from the world of dance, I came from experience. While The Ballet is pure fiction, the composition (integrity, dedication, and commitment) of the characters is authentic.

Loved the story. The pacing felt too slow for me at the beginning, but I’m so glad I stuck with it. By a few chapters in, I was completely hooked. Gabi is a ballerina with a secret past, so she believes happily ever after is not an option for her. When she finally meets a man she falls for, her secrets threaten to destroy their chance at love. The story was sweet and suspenseful and passionate. Overall a great read.

The mystery behind Gabi's secrets drive this book forward and that mystery is setup and dolled out well. The romance itself is believable but something in the Derek/Gabi connection seemed to slow the pacing and hold back the story. Being a romance the HEA was never in doubt but the mystery getting there was well worth the journey. Overall this was a great read and I will be looking at the rest of the author's work.

While an easy read along with wit sec info, it was now about ballet precisely. Ms Edwin’s 1st book in the series was more about the ballet. I didn’t enjoy this book as much.

When I first started the book, I thought oh no, another dull love story but I soon found out I was wrong. I loved this book full of mystery and intrigue. The suspense was well done. Usually, I can figure out the ending, but I was pleasantly surprised and the twists and turns in the book. There was also humor as Gabi tried to figure out whom the billionaire physician was married to. It was a quick easy read, a page-turner. I highly recommend it.

This was an ominous story about a talented ballerina with secrets. The virtuoso has a romantic relationship with a handsome, wealthy man which gives our ballet dancer’s story suspense and more questions than answers in this complex novel. I recommend this enjoyable read. This was an ARC and I did not receive any type of compensation for reading and reviewing this book. While I receive novels from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review.

The author does a great job of setting the reader up for suspense. Not only will the sexual tension between Gabi and Derek keep you furiously flipping through pages, you'll also be left wondering....what is Gabi's dark secret? The backdrop of the austere world of ballet makes an excellent metaphor, all around a great read.

This is a lovely love story with an unspeakable secret that almost pulled them apart - a history that she couldn't get rid of, couldn't tell him, but all turned out like a Hollywood ending. A page turner that I couldn't stop reading till the very end.

The Ballet is a story of a woman who is on the run in plain sight. She meets her love interest early on and after a tug of war, it's on. Underneath it all is a mysterious past that reveals a heredity of evil. This story is heavy into ballet and performance. It's descriptive and detailed.
