Reality Bites (Coletti Warlord Series Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 out of 5 stars 842 ratings

Bree never thought her dimwit act, military grade mace, cattle prod, or dumping a ton of stinky manure on Jaylan's head would encourage his pursuit. Who knew a Coletti warlord would think of being zapped with a cattle prod as foreplay? Or a determined opponent only heightened his enjoyment of the chase? The chase comes to an abrupt halt when the Tai-Kok attack Tucson, forcing Bree to team up with the Coletti warlord to stop them. Suddenly plucked from Earth by a crazed Tai-Kok commander, Jaylan and Bree find themselves stranded on a hostile alien world and being tracked by a deadly Askole assassin. It’s really not the time for the two of them to fall in love.

I just finished re-reading The Coletti Warlords series in preparation for reading the newly released, Romancing The Feral.
I loved this series! Every books had me riveted. The characters are well developed and fun to read even if they’re the “bad guys.” There was such fun, in characters like the villanous Princess Lilkie in her pointed hat and her Legionnaires who must to a silly song and dance before they can attack. We have love, differences of opinion, action, intelligence paired with a few idiots, bravery and cowardice, great strength of character and humor. The locations of the stories and people(s) of each were novel and fun. And chocolate! Don’t forget your chocolate!
It has to be hard to keep writing a series with so many books, but Gail Kroger hasn’t failed once so even if she only writes another Coletti book once a year, I will keep buying them!

I anticipated the fun this book would be when I had a chance to read it with its overbearing, gruff, but loving warlord hero and the sassy, savvy, and 'seat of the pants' lucky human heroine out to save the galaxy while playing chase with each other. And it didn't disappoint. Within the opening pages, I was snorting with laughter and falling in love with a pair of new characters.

This is the fourth book in the Coletti Warlords series, but it is written in such a way that it can be read out of order or as a standalone. Jaylen, the hero, is a recurring character from the beginning, but his role was minor enough so that the reader can pick this one up and not be lost.

The story opens with Bree working the desk for the Earth First secret mission group that she and her adoptive commando father started to save all the psychic human females from being taken by the Coletti as mates. Their organization has been so successful that the Coletti Overlord has sent Jaylen to hunt down their bases and destroy them. Jaylen finds her and senses the base, but Bree has a few tricks up her sleeve to show the Coletti that he takes a bit too much for granted.

Unfortunately, her snazzy bit of zigging and zagging garnishes her his undivided attention and now his hunt takes on a more personal nature to make her his mate. During their unique brand of courtship involving cattle prod, manure dump, skunk bombs and a whole lot of chase, they are interrupted by a Tai-Kok attack on earth. The Tai-Kok snag Bree to use against Jaylen, but that is the beginning of their new adventure on a hostile alien world where everything including the trees will eat you. It's during this survival portion of their courtship that they start to come to terms despite the interruptions of several deadly members of the populations, some Coletti mercenaries and an Askole assassin. All in a day for these two, right?

The plotting on this one bares strong resemblance to the ones that have gone on before it and yes I would go so far as to say its formulaic. But hey, once in a while I enjoy being able to count on things going a certain way in my story. That being said, this one didn't quite end the same way the rest. There was a cliffhanger that will take us into the next book. I enjoyed the blend of never-stop action with human, the intro to the odd alien creatures that are encountered, the back and forth between the main characters and the connection to the familiar past characters.

The pacing has its slower periods, but for the most part it doesn't stop. Even the passionate scenes are explosive, but fast.

Speaking of the passion, this one gets up to some hotter than usual sexy time gymnastics. Truthfully, if the stories have a weak spot, its the character and romance development. By this I mean that the heroine and hero are pretty much the same from opening to exit and there isn't much time given to them getting to know each other or achieving personal growth. The connections are not able to be fully established. However that is not the case in this story. I am pleased to note that a bit more care was taken to develop a deeper connection between Bree and Jaylen. They do get beyond the 'you're mine' to the 'I need you'. Of all the couples in this series, these two demonstrated a more true partnering. They worked together and had mutual respect. It really helped that they shared more scene time. I think the author really stepped it up a notch in her writing with this story and I was so glad to see it.

So even though this one was a shorter segment in the series, it offered all of what I enjoy when I read it and achieved more depth. Those who enjoy passionate, fast-paced space adventure romances should give this book and the series a try. I can't wait to find out what comes next.

I waited (mostly patiently) for months for the release of “Reality Bites’ by Gail Koger and purchased it the first day it was available. I tried my best to read it slowly, but no such luck – I finished it in one night.
I love it when a book contains all of my favorite things to read about – action, adventure, romance, sci-fi/paranormal – oh, and let’s not forget the steamy scenes! This book (and the entire series) has it all, and I give kudos to Ms. Koger.
I’ve been hoping since I read the first Coletti Warlord book that Jaylan would get his own story, and Bree was more than capable of taking him down a peg or two. The action is non-stop from the first chapter and the sarcastic humor that riddles the dialog is classic Gail Koger. The characters are well-developed (Bree in the prologue and Jaylan from the previous books), the scenes are vivid and flowing and the action sequencing is perfectly choreographed.
‘Reality Bites’ is the fourth book in Ms. Koger’s Coletti Warlord series, and even with the tiniest bit of a cliff-hanger ending, it is every bit as entertaining a read as the first three. I highly recommend this book (and the others in the series) to anyone who appreciates the genre. Now I just have to have patience to wait for the release of the fifth book, ‘Just Desserts’, and a nice supply of chocolate!

Loved it! Plain and simple. I have re-read Vexing Voss so many times, I was very thankful that Ms. Koger published the next book in the Coletti Warlords series. I love all of the characters I have grown familiar with and was so glad Jaylan found Bree! The author's sarcastic humor had me chuckling numerous times while I read the book. I really wish it had been longer! I enjoyed learning about half Coletti half human hybrids. I always feel as if I am transported to this wonderful world she has created. The World building is fabulous, love that planet! It is the small nuances that I sincerely appreciate, whether it is a description of colors, the surrounding areas, their clothes or lack thereof, space ships, or the people themselves, I am always intrigued. The dialogue makes me laugh out loud at some points. I am an avid sci-fi reader and this is my preferred genre. However, GailKoger is on my immediate buy list and I find myself waiting very impatiently for the next chapter in this series. Write faster, please!

If I could award more than 5 stars I would!!!! This book and the previous two in the series-Vexing Voss and Just Desserts certainly deserve it!! More of the same sharp wit and hilarious humor and quips, a story full of action and adventure and great detail!!! I laughed so hard!! Even though the males in this series are hotter than a Super Nova, it's good to see a female that can challenge them and give as good as the guys can and then some!! I really really hope that this series continues on for as long as possible(maybe forever!!!) because it is soooo good!!! Looking forward to the next book!! I so recommend this series/these books!!!!

The funny thing about this series is it feels like the same characters over and over but different names, but it is forgiven as the story is so much fun, the dialogue witty, the world the author has created entertaining. Love that alien species have been created and their description make you imagine them clearly.

Love the Coletti series. Strong women, great humour that has me laughing out loud, with fantastic adventures. The only problem is that Gail Koger's books are not easy to come by. Amazon only have two in the series available for Kindle - which means we have to look elsewhere! Can't wait for the next one.
